Re: Rivalry Database
I think an out of conference annual rivalry with ODU would be awesome and great for recruiting. Mountains vs coast.

My choices were:
1) GaSo
2) Wake
3) ECU
4) Marshall
I like your choices for rivals, I could see in the future once Coastal builds their program and becomes a full member, we could easily be rivals with them, Mountains vs the Beach.

Coastal, ODU and UNCC all have potential in the future once we play a few games with each. I just went with past and present programs App has played on numerous occasions that tend to move the needle with our fan base.

Re: Rivalry Database
Somebody who knows more than this about me could come in behind and comment, but it seems ODU would be an attractive choice to build a rivalry with for several reasons:
1) easily winnable games
2) highly sought after tidewater recruiting that we don't currently do a great job of hitting
3) would consistently pit us against a local peer that fans of both teams will travel to.
4) marshall would be better, but we're not what they're looking for right now. Maybe one day, but not now.

Re: Rivalry Database
What are the odds of having a long term 8-10 years in a row rival game that is OOC? Does those happen anymore?
Could we do something that was 4 out of 8 years even.
For me a rivalry game should be an annual event.

Re: Rivalry Database
I think the days of every year out of conference with the same team are going to fade. I wouldn't mind a rivalry game with ECU, ODU, Marshall and WFU. Play each one home and away on an 8 tear rotation. Although I can't see Wake coming up the mountain that often. Maybe throw Charlotte in their place.

Re: Rivalry Database
I considered only listing Ga. Southern, but I went with 80 points for them and 10 each for ECU and UNCC.
Realistically, all our traditional rivals except Southern are in FCS, and we haven't had time yet to develop new ones.

Darn it JMU. That was a nice little rivalry that lasted off and on for a few decades. Not every year of course, but often enough that we had a foundation for something going forward. Oh well.

Re: Rivalry Database
I agree Wake will not make the series an annual event unless we make them enough $$$ by selling out BB&T field when we play. Huge sellout could cause them to consider it.AppSt94 wrote:I think the days of every year out of conference with the same team are going to fade. OOC rivalries are huge for many: Clemson/S Carolina, Ga/Ga Tech, Fl /Fl State, Pitt and WV, USC/ND and perhaps developing is ECU/Va Tech.
An out of conference annual rival would be attractive for us as our location and therefore lack of being a recruiting hotbed will always put us at a disadvantage for scheduling high profile home and home arrangements with P5 teams that will put butts in the seats. A well fostered rivalry with ODU or perhaps eventually UNCC would do that. ODU is well ahead of UNCC in every aspect except facilities.

Re: Rivalry Database
They are, but UNCC might be better for us for other reasons. One, we'll bring more fans to Charlotte than to Norfolk - perhaps many more. Two, UNCC needs the help in selling tickets; ODU doesn't (at least for now). And three, while both are in strong recruiting areas, I suspect we'll have more luck recruiting Charlotte than the Tidewater region.HighlandsApp wrote: An out of conference annual rival would be attractive for us as our location and therefore lack of being a recruiting hotbed will always put us at a disadvantage for scheduling high profile home and home arrangements with P5 teams that will put butts in the seats.
