Re: Satterfield Extension
It's a solid move by Gillin and the BOT. Next year was contract year and you always extend a coach you want to keep before his final contract year. I'm sure there's a bump in pay in there as well.

Clearly they were reading our thread on USA Today salary list. Glad to know Gillin is taking our advice.
Seriously, very good news.

Good move by App. Hopefully Satterfield will agree and not seek another opportunity in the near future

Excellent start on retaining the head coach!! Now I hope they'll work on the assistant coaches when they come near renewal as well. Great news for App!!

Re: Satterfield Extension
OK, I was not a math major but I think this means he makes $525K in 2016, $550K if he stays through 2017, and $25K more for each year thereafter as long as he completes the season.

Unless Scott absolutely tanks, I see him being here for a long time. If he continues to perform he will get raises. I don't see him leaving for money, I have a feeling Boone is where he wants to raise a family and leave a legacy here. And at half a mil a year (more down the road), I'd say that's enough for them to live somewhat comfortably in gods country. Just my opinion.

Re: Satterfield Extension
Let all be clear that if Virginia or Maryland or any other P5 comes calling with $2-3 mil per year Scott will be gone as well as some of our other coaches too. We have tried to do what we can with getting Scott a new deal. Everything is in the details with the new contract. And as of now, we know little. If as reported his base is $400k plus a retention bonus of $125k that will be adequate for now (in the Belt) but I would hope there would be a more robust incentive package than his previous contract. The question is does his base in 2016 go to $425K or does he get the retention bonus every year which would then be $550K? Look overall I'm glad that we're making an attempt to keep Scott.... but even at that level that only puts him fourth in our conference.

Re: Satterfield Extension
My interpretation is the $125k retention bonus applies each year with an annual $25k base raise. Thus, in year 5, total base + retention is $625k.AppFan11 wrote:Let all be clear that if Virginia or Maryland or any other P5 comes calling with $2-3 mil per year Scott will be gone as well as some of our other coaches too. Re: Satterfield Extension
If he was 62 with about 25 years of coaching tenure I would agree with you. However he is 42 with not even 30 games under his belt. I agree that the high country is a great family place, but when a P5 school comes knocking its hard to say no.boonetown1 wrote:Unless Scott absolutely tanks, I see him being here for a long time. Good topic for discussion, however forget about the future and lets live for today. Go Apps, kick Georgia State's ass and let the win streak continue.
For the record, Scott does love Apo State a lot which I feel would keep him around at least through the duration of his new contract.

Re: Satterfield Extension
I don't think Scott would leave App for UVA or Maryland at this time, I do think only a P5 offer would get Scott to leave but not bottom tier ACC schools. As for his salary it basically starts at $525k and increases $25k each year. Good move by the BOT but at some point we gotta shell out more than this.AppFan11 wrote:Let all be clear that if Virginia or Maryland or any other P5 comes calling with $2-3 mil per year Scott will be gone as well as some of our other coaches too. Re: Satterfield Extension
Before we start talking about the millions needed to keep him at App and why he isn't the top paid coach in our league how about we sit back and see if he can keep the winning going. I'm loving our current success but I would like to see two additional years of success in the sunbelt before I would think about putting him near that million dollar mark. Lets not get ahead of ourselves on this process.

Re: Satterfield Extension
Guys we can't much more than that, even if we paid him 700-800 it wouldn't be enough to keep the wolves at bay if he is coveted by a program that can pay 2M a year.
I'm afraid many of our fans don't understand the revenues we generate can only be spent so many ways. We've got a long list of wants without the wallet to pay for them.
The next 5 years must be spent raising revenue.

Re: Satterfield Extension
This new contract is well-deserved! When I see what's happening on and off the field, I want to lock all of our coaches in and stick some ridiculous nationwide non-compete on them (yes, I do know that's not possible).
It's easy to say, "Let's give all the coaches a raise." It's much more difficult to fund that raise. When you look at larger universities and their coaches' salaries, know that (odds are) every single player scholarship has been endowed. Endowed scholarships mean that current year money raised by the booster club can be applied to all sorts and kinds of things other than athletes' scholarships.
Last I heard, it takes about $250,000 to endow a scholarship. App has few, if any, fully endowed athletic scholarships. It takes about $4,500,000 just to fund Yosef fully for a year. This year, we passed the $3,000,000 and had our highest giving year ever. We're still short.
The bottom line is that Yosef needs dollars to help fund scholarships, salaries, stickers & license plates, and every other doo-dad that folks often seem to take as a "given". If you're not a member of The Yosef Club, please join now ... every $10 helps. If you are a Yosef member, thank you!

Re: Satterfield Extension
Scott can make a significant amount on top of his base salary. The details still aren't known yet but he'll get bonuses for grades, win plateaus, conference titles, bowls, radio appearances, etc. I wouldn't be surprised (if he doesn't already) if he's got at least local endorsements to make extra cash too.
