Ignorant Blogger Rehashing Unpleasantness

Unread post by Gonzo » Mon Nov 26, 2012 12:48 pm

We thought it was all over with the porn-showing, athletics-hating, she-devil, "professor" Jamie Price. Now apparently, some hippy blog writer didn't get the memo when the issue was topical and decided to drag our beloved University's name through the dirt yet again on black Friday.

Indeed Mr. Hamilton Nolan, outspoken garbage peddler I mean blogger for that popular and reputable publication (/sarcasm) known as "Gawker.com" just published a blurb about all kinds of dead issues; packed with plenty of F-bombs, mountain heritage stereotypes and personal insults about Chancellor Peacock.

http://gawker.com/5963243/appalachian-s ... kind-words

He makes sure to condemn the censorship of the teacher while condoning the creation of a hostile environment to many students. There isn't a shred of objectivity or research in the entire "article." Why can't these idiots just leave us alone?

Here's my two cents as taken from my comment on the "article:"

"The woman had a vendetta against ASU athletics for years and created a hostile environment for every student athlete unlucky enough to land in her hippy-indoctrinating classroom. It was not the first time she butted heads with the administration. Price should have been fired years ago."

How's that for being timely and current? Up next, he'll examine how the folks at Kent State reacted to protests of the Vietnam War on their campus.

If people who teach intro level sociology classes didn't teach intro level sociology classes, they would be unemployed.

For some reason there's a market for vindictive "academics" that offer no real skill sets to society. They find employment within the UNC-System. Your tax dollars finance your own children's indoctrination as they coast through their first 2 years of school. Luckily they were too hung over/high for any of the garbage to sink in anyway...

Does anyone expect to be taken seriously as a journalist while dropping f-bombs in their 'work'?

I agree, but Gawker is a hugely popular blog site. This is bad pub in a big venue. SMH

Gonzo, your title hit the nail on the head. Hopefully no one will take that writer seriously. How could anyone take this article seriously with it so full of stereotypes? It's just trash from a trashy blog and lowers the reader's IQ 10 points just from reading it.
After this reference was posted on here, it will proliferate on rival schools' message boards.

The issue wasn't that she showed porn in the classroom. It was that she responded to having two athletes challenge her on the "athletes are entitled" stance on a Monday by walking in Wednesday and without any rhyme or reason put in a tape of a documentary with porn in it that wasn't on the syllabus and walked out.

Here's more on the subject from an actual news source.

http://chronicle.com/article/Chancellor ... ne/135944/

She seems to be more than willing to humor the media while Peacock remains professional and declines comment.

To me, this just highlights the problem with the university system today. Tenure is ludicrous and counter productive. In the REAL work force, if you suck at your job or act inappropriately (both being the case in this situation) you lose your job. It is the essential characteristic of capitalism. You work hard and do well, you get paid and advance. You do poorly and act inappropriately, you're replaced. It is a system that garners progress and hard work by rewarding such behaviors.

I'm all for professional and creative freedom, but throwing on a movie featuring graphic porn scenes while giving your students no warning or option to walk out is ridiculous. I feel like she could even be liable for sexual harassment, especially if her actions were indeed in direct response to the gripes of her students. The woman has a vendetta against ASU athletics and she was too petty to arrogant to refrain from taking it out on her students.

Defiance like this would never be tolerated outside of the ivory tower. We need to set a precedent, bad media attention or not, and swiftly send this idiot to the unemployment line.

If you read the responses to the fool's blog you will see few are really paying attention to him and half are in support of ASU. Time to hit the " ignore" button

Good article that explains what happened and lets the reader make their own conclusions.

Also, can we all agree that comment sections for big city newspapers bring out the dregs of humanity? Good grief there's some nutjobs in that one.

I believe most people outside of academia will see Price for who and what she is. Kudos to the Chancellor for drawing a line in the sand.
