Jekyll isn't Jekyll without Hyde. Batman isn't Batman without the Joker.... etc.. In that same vein, APP isn't APP without GASO... the rivalry that is.... or for that matter.. the Sunbelt thus far...
Now that Western is out of the picture, no more Jug. Kind of thinking we need something to play for, and the victor hold for the year between these two powerhouses. In all my years around football, this is flat out one of THE deepest and most respected rivalries I can recall. I love it.
What should it be? A "Hell's Bell"? with winner plate attached each time we play? Loser can't use Hell's Bells on 3rd down for the year? Do they even use that at GASO?
Some sort of Gold Rivalry Cup like the Stanly Cup? It just strikes me that this rivalry needs something tangible to hold, mourn and rejoice when returned sort of deal...
Thoughts?

Brought up every once in a while around here. I'm personally not a fan. You have to be careful about seeming contrived with stuff like this.
But I know a lot of people do like the idea.

If both fan bases were to agree, instead of a trophy, have each programs' fans sign up (an equal number of participants from both sides) who will write a check to the opposing team's booster club in the amount of the difference of the final score (ie. last year each App fan signed up would have had to write a $20 check to GSU Athletic Foundation). Maybe cap it at $21 for a 21+ point (3 possession...blowout) difference.
If we could get say 100 fans per program, the game could bring in up to $2,100 max for one of the booster clubs. Fans could use it as a tax write-off to take the sting out of parting ways with their money to the other program. This puts a little bit more emphasis on the game where both fan bases are even more invested and it ultimately goes directly towards helping student athletes.

No idea really and not sure what would be appropriate for the God's Country side of things but their side would have to include two giant cans of air freshener and Deep Woods Off.

Agree Moonshine... Both sides need to pony up the same amount... shared cost... I like the hook...
As for contrived... yeah sure... that's how all of this sort of stuff got started in whatever program or sport. Just didn't fall out of a tree.... or did it? hmmmm
LOL.. Moose.

It's been discussed before, that with both schools beginning as teacher schools, a teacher's paddle would be appropriate with each school being represented on each side.
It also wouldn't cost all that much.

I agree at some point all of them probably felt contrived. I know Auburn/Alabama is called the Iron Bowl and Moo U/Clemson used to be called the Textile Bowl, do either play for anything like the Old Mountain Jug or the Victory Bell (Duke/CHeaters)?
Although just coming up with a clever "bowl" name may be just as difficult. . .
I'd be happy if we played for "The Belt." Kind of like the America's Cup in yachting, America won the race so many times it just became known as that. If Stink and App win the Sun Belt so often (consecutively) then we play each year for "The Belt."

I still like the idea of the Teacher's paddle and call it the Black and Blue bowl.

In today's PC world, that wouldn't fly. Teachers Paddle and black and blue bowl would be seen by someone as violence towards studentsappbanker wrote:I still like the idea of the Teacher's paddle and call it the Black and Blue bowl.

I do like the idea of incorporating the teacher school history

How about we just settle on the Sun Belt trophy or nothing? That worked last year. For many years prior the SoCon trophy was usually the prize that went to the winner. That's a real rivalry that ain't broke and needs no fixin.

If we were to do something that has a little history behind it, how about both our love for collecting championship flags. We could have a flag that has both teams colors and logo on it, with true gold trim to signify it as being special; winner gets to fly it at their place, or run it in at the other teams stadium to start the game. Could be a neat tradition that no else does.

One idea I've seen...S.Lewis15 wrote:It's been discussed before, that with both schools beginning as teacher schools, a teacher's paddle would be appropriate with each school being represented on each side.

There's already a couple of paddles out there and a Black and Blue Bowl game.
We don't need to force something.

The paddle idea sounds good. Or, we can use an empty gallon milk jug. Why? They seem to like putting creek water in theirs and you might just find moonshine in ours...Anyway, time to get ready for Troy.
