Re: Camelia Bowl
I hear ya. I'm thankful to be going to a bowl our first year of true eligibility. I'll say this though, if I'm Scott, I'm driving this home to the team that it's a sign of disrespect. And, the only way to fix it is to dominate the opponent and then dominate our schedule next year. As for me, I think the LKN Alums are going to try and put together a bowl viewing party for those that can't make the trip to Bama. If we can get it together, I'll post on here!biggie wrote:Seems like a bit of shaft to me, I rank GoDaddy above Camellia, guess it may depend on the opponent though too.

Re: RE: Re: Camelia Bowl
I have made peace with it for selfish reasons. This gives me the best opportunity to be there. Furthermore someone on here convinced me it's not about your record it's about how much money you can make for the bowl.CVAPP wrote:I sort of feel the same way. This will be only the 2nd Camelia Bowl ever played. Last year Bowling Green beat USA. We are getting an expansion bowl bid. Regardless, nothing to do now but make the most of it.biggie wrote:Seems like a bit of shaft to me, I rank GoDaddy above Camellia, guess it may depend on the opponent though too.
Just edited, too negative. Sorry if anyone saw it and hope no one quoted before I deleted.

Motel booked . Waiting to see what Yosef club has before booking flights. Very excited about Camelia, the one on the 23rd was not doable for us. Go Mountaineers

I'm staying at the Renaissance downtown. Walking distance to the stadium. The Courtyard 4 miles away has rooms for under $100/night.

Re: Camelia Bowl
Well, there were only four choices for the Belt, and one of those is likely not getting filled. New Orleans is taking stAte because of proximity, GoDaddy is taking GSU because Stink is closer to Mobile than we are, and Camellia is taking us because they think we will maximize the dollars for them. The Cure bowl will go unfilled by the Belt and was, in my opinion, the worst of the four tie-ins. Don't ever let yourself believe that these bowls are for anything more than making the most money for the host city and for the bowl organizing committee. Absent a tie-in for a specific finisher in conference standing, which none of the Belt tie-ins have, they will ALWAYS take the team that they believe will bring in the biggest $$$$$$$. All three Belt teams are playing in the game that is the easiest trip for them and for their fans. Short of getting the Access bowl slot, that is the best we can ask for.

Re: Camelia Bowl
Early on, Camellia was my second-to-last choice, and maybe I'm just pumping sunshine up my own nethers, but I've totally come around.
GoDaddy's date was way too close to Christmas. No way I could have gotten there.
Cure's pick order meant we'd be playing a team that has had a season that was merely adequate. I'd rather play a winner.
New Orleans bowl would have been the only one I'd maybe like ahead of the Camellia, but it would have required a flight and a longer stay for me, plus no matter how many fans went, we'd have looked like a puny showing in the Superdome.
Camellia is driveable (my username aside, I'm in NC like most App fans), the date is great, the opponent should be quality, and we can have a great fan presence. I know there are lots of Mountaineers in Atlanta, and it's a mere 2 hour jaunt for those guys.
Anyone know Montgomery? Good food? Good places to stay or things to do?

Re: Camelia Bowl
OK, request for you web sleuths - let's see if we can find any more solid indicators on who our opponent will be. (I'm not talking projections, but reports on actual deals in place like McMurphy's tweet).

Re: Camelia Bowl
Anybody that's not pumped for this a moron.
This game is perfect for us. Thank goodness we're not playing on the 23rd in a 40k stadium that will look like a ghost town. Our game is drivable, only 30 min further than Chattanooga, and in a stadium that hold 25k. Let's pack this place like we did Chattanooga and get our first bowl victory!!!!!
BTW, almost 10 years to the day of our 1st national championship!

Re: Camelia Bowl
I had purchased tickets for all four bowl games on the App Site. GoDaddy Bowl was going to be a problem for me due to Christmas plans but I was going either way. Camellia Bowl is only a short 2.5 hour drive from Atlanta so it is by far the most covenient for me. Plus the game will be on ESPN on a Saturday evening. Much better visibility than CBSSports network. I am pumped and ready! Go Apps!

IMHO, our guys, at 10+ wins, deserved better.
I guess they should hold out until that New Years Day Bowl bid comes along.

This is a great day for our program no matter what kind of negative spin you want to apply. If you're not excited, then that's a you problem.
