ECU fires Ruffin
A 42-34 overall record, 8-8 league record in the last two seasons, wins over Virginia Tech, North Carolina and NC State....not good enough.
Unless they have someone ready to go, ECU's gonna regret this.

Wow, didn't see that one coming.
Wonder if they're planning to give Lincoln Riley a call? And if they do, wonder if he'd accept?

Re: ECU fires Ruffin
I mean the guy lost a record setting QB and WR from last year and half of their losses this year were by a TD or less. Tough crowd down there....good luck with that, sheesh.

Re: ECU fires Ruffin
Who do they think they are? This reminds me of State firing Tom Obrien.
Hate it for Coach McNeal but a nosediving ECU is good for App State, IMO.

Wow. They owned the state the last 4 years and were just 2 seasons removed from their first 10 win season since like 1981. Brett McMurphy with the great line "I hope they have a firm verbal commitment from Nick Saban."

Stay away from our coaching staff, I think that the AAC is a major conference and they will attract a quality hire. I really do not like ECU not one bit.

Man I hate that. I've know them for years myself and, as appbud said, they are great people.

No way Lincoln Riley even picks up the phone from ECU. I'm sure he's pissed about the way this is going down for Ruffin (his former boss). ECU AD better have someone fantastic already lined up waiting in the wings or he's squarely on the hot seat next year. Ruffin was extremely popular in Greenville and you don't treat an alum like this.

This could spell the end of it for ECU AD, ECU fans seem to be absolutely livid for the most part. Unless they have Lincoln Riley ready to accept I have no idea who they think they're gonna get.

And one wonders why coaches often try to cut corners in order to remain successful.

Re: ECU fires Ruffin
Time for the coaches to go poaching if they like any of the talent Ruff received verbals from. Specifically the top 3 on their current board.

WR - Tahj Deans ***

Well, we don't have to look far to find a coach who was willing to take the HC job after his mentor was controversially let go.ASUGoose wrote:No way Lincoln Riley even picks up the phone from ECU. I don't think that would stop Riley from taking the job if it were offered. I just wonder if he might hold out for a better opportunity. His name's already being linked to P5 openings this year.

Re: ECU fires Ruffin
As Shine posted Deans and Glaspie were two we had offered. Add CB Keyshawn Canady and OT Justin Chase to that list of offered guys who committed to ECU. Also would expect us to look at any of their regional OL commits after Chase, given the need for O Linemen right now.Appdoggy wrote:So who, of their commits, are we going after?

Re: ECU fires Ruffin
The funny thing is they have been all over their message boards bitching about how terrible a coach Ruff is. Now that they got what they wanted they are "shocked". The most delusional fan base in the country got what they asked for, but I don't see this being a good thing for their program.

Re: ECU fires Ruffin
There is no sanity or loyalty in college athletics anymore. Ruffin had a record similar to Skip Holtz who many felt was one of their best HC, but Ruffin didn't have a bunch of thugs on his teams. He did everything right and had a lot of big wins for HIS school.
Their AD needs to really rethink their scheduling practices if this is the level of expectation they have for a coach. Playing 3 P5's every year on top of a tough AAC is not easy to do. They better have a lot of cash on hand to hire a name coach if they plan to compete with Houston who just re-upped with Herman for $3 Mil a year.
