I-85 Georgia Cops
Warning. From ATL south to the AL border, watch out for not just troopers, but also local cops. I made that drive many times while stationed in Pensacola and it's a cash cow for many small towns south of ATL. Good luck!

Re: I-85 Georgia Cops
Now this is the kind of tip I appreciate. Should I expect to be OK going 8-10 over, or is that danger territory?

I got a ticket from a Bama State Trooper heading to the ASU vs. LSU game. 11mph over and ticket.

Better watch Yosef! I do 8 over and haven't had issues. Watch out for California stopps off exit ramps that should have yield signs when getting gas. That's what got me. My lawyer told me about the scam the local cops run. I think it's even been on 60 minutes according to him. It's piracy in my opinion.

Maybe GA is different than NC.....but in NC the law enforcement agencies do not see a single penny from any monies generated by tickets.

Re: I-85 Georgia Cops
The Greenville, SC area is notorious as well if they are out. Some trips through I never see any, but when they are on the hunt, seems like half the force is out there. I once counted 10 patrol cars with "customers" pulled over in a one mile stretch. They had a guy on an overpass with a radar gun and a radio telling the next guy who to go get.

He did not say it was a smart scam.ASUTodd wrote:Maybe GA is different than NC.....but in NC the law enforcement agencies do not see a single penny from any monies generated by tickets.

And there can be ways the PD are rewarded with a larger budget that effectively does channel the money back to the LEOs.
In NC the money goes to schools or just general fund?
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Money from tickets goes to court system, where it goes from there I do not know. The city is what makes our budget and the State isnt giving them any money from the tickets. Now our drug seizures we get a portion of and it goes into an asset forfeiture fund (the rest to the school system). Money from sold vehicles and guns goes to the school systems.

A judge in my civic club says that a percentage of all ticket proceeds issued by NC State Troopers goes to state employees' retirement funds. That's judges, troopers, teachers, DOT, DOC, et. al. employees.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:He did not say it was a smart scam.ASUTodd wrote:Maybe GA is different than NC.....but in NC the law enforcement agencies do not see a single penny from any monies generated by tickets.![]()
