one reason we needed to move up

The board will seek feedback on some questions raised by members of governance bodies in recent days, including: the process by which items decided by the full division could become part of the list of autonomous areas; the voting, interpretation and enforcement processes within the five highest-profile conferences; and the core structure that separates not only the five highest-profile conferences into their own group but also continues a separation of the next five conferences (the American Athletic Conference, Conference-USA, Mid-American Conference, Mountain West Conference and Sun Belt Conference) from the remaining 22.

In a "nut shell and in laymen terms": I do believe we made the move just in time. It is possible that when the dust settles we will probably be in a similiar situation we had in "The Old FCS." That is, the power conferences will still continue their bowl games, and the G5 will have a Div I Playoff. The current FCS members will become "The New Div II", so on and so forth. Not saying this will happen, however, it would not surprise me.

I was listening to Mark Packer and Rick Neuheisel on XM yesterday, and this potential split was a hot topic of discussion. Neuheisel had an idea that I hadn't considered, but it was interesting. He said that if the P5 wants to split then the G5 should move to playing spring football a la the old USFL. He believed the TV networks would be interested in that package and that the revenue could exceed what was lost if there was a true split since the only competition would be early season baseball. I'm not sure I would be in favor of that, but his point was that if the P5 really wants a split then give it to them completely with no option of playing a G5 opponent.

Any time you can emulate the business model of a league that folded after three seasons, you pretty much have to do it.

FWIW, I wasn't trying to pick on you. I got that you were just passing along Neuheisel's comment.

The NFL draft would be a big obstacle to contend with if they tried spring football. I'm sure they could work around it, but there's no way you could allow players to be drafted and still finish the season.
Give 'em hell!

Wasn't meant as a shot at you. It is more the issue with the NFL-DL and the destruction of football sanity.

Wouldn't work. Believe it or not, there are people out there who couldn't care less about the P5 conferences and teams.

The biggest problem for spring football would be the weather. Pre season training camps would either have to be all indoors or in freezing temps for about half of america. Lots of early games would get snowed/freezing rained out. More flights would be delayed for snow/spring rain/ice. I just don't see them being able to get around the weather unless they didn't start until April.

Another issue with starting in the spring is that the playoffs/postseason would more than likely drag on in to the summer after many kids have graduated who are on the team and the NFL draft happening.
