I think we need the Mountain West champ to have at least two losses. If everything else went our way, I'd feel uncomfortable having to beat out a one loss Boise or San Diego State.Rick83 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 9:22 pmI said that in my post, the AAC champ must have 2 losses but I'm not sure the MWC champion does assuming we win out. Boise St has a bad loss and a not great P5 win against Florida St. If they win the MWC I think our resume would be better...assuming we win out and it'd help if UNC would win some of their close games.
San Diego St could easily lose again as well as they're not really dominating anybody...I know I'm an optimist but I don't think the Cotton Bowl is totally out of the question for us.
Cotton Bowl is not mathematically out of the question but there is so much that has to happen you will waste too much of your life figuring it all out. Like I said 5 weeks ago, things will play out. Not only do we need 2 MWC teams to lose one more but we need GSU to lose one, we need to win out, and we need the AAC champ to have 2 or 3 losses. That is a lot needed to happen.
Also, Ga Southern has several tough SBC games to play and could very easily lose one or more of those...
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Re: Watch Out
I don't think anyone here knows that for sure, the committee is supposed to only look at this year's body of work and, if we win out, we'd have two P5 wins and only one 3 point loss. Obviously, it'd help our chances if the MWC champ has two losses along with a two loss AAC champ. Really need ECU to upset Cincy, and Memphis to beat SMU....AppInDC wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 9:28 pmI think we need the Mountain West champ to have at least two losses. SMUs crappy defense is getting exposed. I knew it would eventually, but wasn't expecting us to have a loss. So irritating.

Well ECU blew it. Assuming SMU doesn't come back and assuming they take care of their other business, winner of Cincy/Memphis over Thanksgiving weekend has to be the NY6 favorite.

Yes I'm agreeing with you. Memphis proving SMU is not unbeatable, which I did not think they are. I'm pretty convinced the top 3 in the AAC would beat us right now.
GSU could lose one but again so many have to lose. I'm taking the easy, simple approach. See if we beat South Carolina and Georgia State and then look around and see what the other G5s are doing. If we lose either of those games nothing the other teams do even matter for us. We have no room for error to win the SBC and keep our name relevant.

Re: Watch Out
I think Memphis and SMU would beat Boise State and SDSU by 2 scores this year. Boise State may win but I don't think they are a top 25 team. GSU is a better team than SJSU. If they lose to SJSU they are done for sure.

Re: Watch Out
Watched the SMU, Memphis game. Good stuff, I would love to see us find a way into the AAC but our fan base would have to get use to having a few more losses on our record. It was really odd to here tonight but Kirk Herbstreit actually had a lot of good things to say about some G5 programs and players.

Re: Watch Out
The only thing we should be watching out for is which CUSA team looks like they’re headed to Mobile with us. Sorry, still not over the loss. Give me a few more days to sulk.

They play in The Liberty Bowl. IIt is only about 80 percent full per the aerial shots. It looks full on the lower camera angles, but the upper bowls are empty.mountaineerman wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 9:00 pmMemphis SMU game looks like a big time game. That stadium is packed to the gills.
Not sure if that their stadium or not but that game looks bigtime from all angles. Even Herbstreit lol
I do love the drum line playing before every snap.

Re: Watch Out
Agree, and then we need the loser of that game to win the AAC conference championship game the following week...and of course we need to win out and preferably in convincing fashion.
To be honest, I feel like we've already made huge progress this year just being in the NY6 discussion at the 7 game point in the season. I'd love it if we had a few things fall into place and put us into the national discussion for that Cotton Bowl slot...just being in that discussion at this point in our FBS transition is astonishing.
Also, seeing SMU fall last night shows how hard it is to go undefeated in a season. We're now down to only 7 undefeated teams in the nation I believe and some of those will be playing each other soon...I know some on this board think Boise would get in ahead of us but in my humble opinion I don't think their resume would be as strong as ours if we win out, especially if we do it in convincing fashion. And of course we need Ga Southern to drop one more but looking at the teams they've got left and how up and down they've been this year, that's highly possible.

Re: Watch Out
I said at the start of the year, I would be satisfied if we won at least nine regular season games, the Sun Belt title, and a bowl game. Those goals are still all within reach.Rick83 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 8:08 amAgree, and then we need the loser of that game to win the AAC conference championship game the following week...and of course we need to win out and preferably in convincing fashion.

My stretch goals were beat either/both of the Carolinas, win out in the Sun Belt, and make the NY6 bowl. Second goal is out but first goal has been accomplished with a potential exclamation mark on Saturday in prime time. The NY6 is probably not happening but I don't think we're officially out yet and it's amazing that the conversation can even be had in the fifth year of bowl eligibility. I honestly thought our FBS tenure would be choppy at first and the fan base might have to be satisifed with several campaigns of four or five wins. Even if the bottom were to completely fall out this year and we lost every game, we would be guaranteed no worse than 7-6. Even in that nightmare scenario, many teams would wish they could do that.

Re: Watch Out
I clicked on their game and watched a little bit. They did an overhead shot of the stadium and it looked very empty. I’m sure the announced crowd was well over 25k but it looked bad.
