Re: Edge-Campbell Suspended
Man this seemingly innocent (albeit troublesome) thread got out of hand. Young people 18-22 are going to do stupid things. Thank god it wasn't a DUI! At least what he may have done didn't put a life in danger. Hope it turns out ok for him, football or no football. Someone mentioned the stipend. Do we really think that little bit of spending money will prevent stupidity? Nope. Any coach who runs a perfectly clean program is just damn lucky. I personally think there might be a correlation between stepping up to a higher level as a program and the potential for stuff like this. You now go after the different type of athlete and you run the risk of bringing in a prima donna type who is higher maintenance. Not saying this is the case with E-C. Just a theory.

Re: Edge-Campbell Suspended
Geez! I really don't see the need in bringing up Jerry Moore as if he had tons of problems. We all know that discipline slipped in the later years, but JM was a great coach for Appalachian. Nobody is perfect, and I'm sure he had flaws. He was still a great coach (exactly what we needed for the time he was here) and I'm proud of his tenure here at App.
Satterfield has climbed the learning curve rapidly. He inherited a young stud WR who got out of control quickly. Satterfield tried to work with him, but when it didn't pan out, he said goodbye to an athlete who would have been a star on almost any team. I have no problem with how Satterfield is handling the team or discipline issues in general.
I hope that Tobias can get this situation behind him. I agree with WVApp that we don't need to label him as if this proves he is some sort of mistake (by the program) or bad seed. He's a young man who made a big mistake. We can label the mistake....it was STUPID. Most of us have done stupid stuff if we are honest. Some got caught and some didn't. The fact that those people didn't get caught doesn't make them a better person than those who got caught.
How quickly this gets resolved is up to TEC and how he instructs his attorney. As a first time offender, I see this charged being either plea bargained down or handled with deferred prosecution. I'm sure community service and restitution will be part of any arrangement. I know of one situation personally where a felony was given deferred prosecution, so I think that remains an option for non-violent first offenders.
To TEC: Good luck! Do the right thing and move forward. Hopefully you will be "back in black" on Saturday afternoons soon!

I had no idea that MMB was full of Angelic Attorneys. Satterfield handled this incident correctly. There is no need to talk about the past and what was or was not done by Coach Moore. The focus should be how the team will proceed going forward and fill his roster spot.

Gonzo...I see it all the time. Bet ya a beer or two or three he gets a DP.Gonzo wrote:I'm not very familiar with Watauga County, but deferred prosecution programs are generally unavailable for felonies in my experience. I don't expect him to suit up this season.

Edge-Campbell has been conditionally reinstated and was on the field today. We'll see what the team and SID announces before saying any more.

Excellent. Fingers crossed that he misses minimal game time.firemoose wrote:Edge-Campbell has been conditionally reinstated and was on the field today. We'll see what the team and SID announces before saying any more.

Re: Edge-Campbell Suspended
In Satts after practice interview he says he doesn't anticipate Tobias missing any games given that "he does what he needs to do between now and then". I would assume that's a good sign for the eventual outcome of his case. Definitely a good sign for App football, though.

Read on another thread that he has been practicing with first team. Still the same status?

Re: Edge-Campbell Suspended
Status is still the same until the depth chart comes out. The reason he's been running with the 1's is that he missed the first week of camp and they wanted him to get more reps. Collins has had plenty of reps and they need TEC to get more than his share in the lead up to the season.bigdaddyg wrote:Read on another thread that he has been practicing with first team. The only charge showing on the combined District & Superior Court calendars for Watauga is..."Statute 4470...Infraction...FAIL TO WEAR SEAT BELT-DRIVER." The other charge must have been dismissed by the DA. There is no mention of a continuance. The seat belt charge is to be adjudicated on 9.9.16.

Re: Edge-Campbell Suspended
The charge was dismissed after a plea deal was reached. I said in my earlier post I wouldn't go into specifics because it's not my place to do so. And Satt and Mike are administering out their own punishment. The status I was referring to was the quote by Satt in Yosef10's post. Nothing more.

Understood, Moose. Hope TEC has the character and fortitude to stay on the straight and narrow going forward.

This is good news for depth on the OL. If he reclaims the starter role over Collins, does Parker move back to LG and Fernandez back to DT full time until he's needed on the offensive side?

Re: Edge-Campbell Suspended
Did you just say getting a DUI is part of growing up? No you're not old you are just holding athletes to a different standard than the rest of the students. I don't care if the best players on the team get DUIs and cause App to go 0-11. I would support the immediate suspension from the team for anyone that was reckless enough to endanger the lives of everyone around them. That stuff is selfish and stupid.AppinVA wrote:Ugh. But to steal from someone? Dammit. Sorry. That's strike one, two and three.

It was clarified later in the thread that I meant underage possession. I just never bothered to change my original post.BTK2000 wrote:Did you just say getting a DUI is part of growing up? Re: Edge-Campbell Suspended
Certainly Collins is going to start somewhere. Just a question of what position, and whether it makes more sense to have TEC at center or someone else at guard (Greer? Fernandez?) or tackle (Johnson?).moonshine wrote:This is good news for depth on the OL. I think we all hope Fernandez is not needed as a starter on the OL. I don't know the answer to that question, but I would hope he would be no more than an emergency backup at guard so he can focus on NT.
