Miami vs. Appy State size
Some of you may not realize but Appy State is larger than the Univ. of Miami. Our undergrad enrollment is around 10,000 and about 5,000 grads for a total of about 15,000 enrollment. I googled your enrollment and found it to be around 18,000. The U is located south of Miami proper on Highway US#1 in Coral Gables, FL (which equates to Beverly Hills, CA real estate). The campus is beautiful with a lake in the middle. Unfortunately, there is absolutely no place on campus for a stadium, not that the city of Coral Gables would even think of letting us build one in the Gables. Coral Gables has a very elite shopping area near campus called Miracle Mile. During the 4 years I was at the U, the only time I would go into Miami was to access one of the bridges to go to the beach.
As a long-time fan of the U, I look forward to playing Appy State. You are indeed a worthy opponent and we are very much aware of how good your team is. BTW, your weather - in the 70's during the day and 50's at night will feel like winter to our players.
Here is to a good and injury-free game.

Folks generally don't like the "Appy" moniker. App State is the preferred reference. It will save you a lot of grief from some here.

Re: Miami vs. Appy State size
Welcome! We are very aware of our size relative to other universities. It seems like you may not have realized we are the larger of the two. You also may not realize that if we were in the ACC, we would be 9th largest university. We are about the size of Clemson. If we had enough land, which is a premium in the High Country, we could easily be 22k plus. People call us a small school all the time, but as you now realize, that really is not the case. Good luck Saturday. GO APP!!

Most people think Miami is some huge state school. We're neither. That would be be UF and FSU (our 2 biggest rivals).

Helps that your recruiting footprint encompasses about 20 square miles or so! Lol

Really guys? The first response to one of the very few classy Canes fans that went out of his way to post on here and show some respect is to get all huffy about the "Appy" thing? Seriously?

Re: Miami vs. Appy State size
Appy is clearly condescending. It's worse than Appalaychun in my opinion. I mean the whole country pronounces the mountain range wrong, so it's more understandable IMO.

Re: Miami vs. Appy State size
Actually both pronunciations are correct except for the school. When it comes to "Appy" I though we were going to see it more often when we changed from ASU to APP STATE. Some do it intentionally some mean no disrespect. Just speaking for myself, as long as the right numbers show up on the score board I'll just smile. Call me what you want but we just kicked your ass.

Re: Miami vs. Appy State size
Speaking of how to pronounce Appalachian: It's always been a "mystery" to me when pronouncing, Apalachicola (ApaLATCH), it's "Apa latch ah cola". However, Appalachian (AppaLATCH) is (to some) Apa laych un. In other words, "lach" is pronounced differently even though the spelling is the same. Hope this makes sense. The English language is at times confusing.

Perhaps someone from Miami can enlighten me...if your team name is the Hurricanes, why is your mascot Howard the Duck?

Re: Miami vs. Appy State size
There are people that call us App State, but show us no respect to our school or the success of the football program. I can get over someone referring to us as Appy State if it is followed by much respect for the school, team, as well as the area.

I believe it's the first thing to sense or fly away when a hurricane is coming. Something to that effect.

It's Sebastian the Ibis. The Ibis is an Egyptian symbol of knowledge and is supposed to the be the last bird to fly away when a storm comes and the first to arrive after it is done.
I'm sure you all know this, but I correct people who pronounce Appalachia wrong.
