Hope your not basing our campus off Overtown. Coral Gables is a pretty affluent suburb. And UM is a top 50 school.
Not in the least! Like I said, I had an aunt that lived in Coral Gables. Very nice place! It's just that in my trips to the Miami area over the past 50 years, I've seen the far ends of the socioeconomic spectrum. I did meet kids in Overtown who knew that good grades and football / basketball were their only hope of changing the poverty cycle. I hope they're all still on track to their dreams.

Seriously, show me where I was huffy. I merely suggested that he might not want not to use Appy. FTR, I don't get offered by the term, I was simply trying to save him some grief.
There was no malice intended. We look forward to our time in Boone. I know you all are much more thick skinned than this. Heck it's not even game day yet. Good luck and go Canes. See you soon!

As the originator of this thread, please note that it was certainly not my intent to insult in any way whatsoever by referring to you as "Appy". I will correct this and in the future will refer to you as AppState if you agree not to refer to my school as "thug U" or refer to our lack of attendance. We are a little sensitive about those issues. Agreed? Guess we all have our sensitivities.

First time jumping into this conversation DaytonaCane...A) thanks for coming over here and starting an intelligent conversation. I'm sure even you will agree, some of Miami's message board fans are a rare breed indeed. B) I personally am not "insulted" by "Appy". I don't like it, it's annoying, but there's a long bridge between those two shores.

Looking forward to hosting the U on Saturday. Hope you have a great time visiting Boone. Pretty sure you can't throw a stone in Boone or Blowing Rock without hitting a fellow Floridian's vacation home so you'll be more among your own than you ever imagined.

AppDiesel, Yes, I am aware of some of our posters, but basically every university has some. I use to feel sorry for visiting fans who wandered into the West End Zone area of the Orange Bowl. That was a wild and crazy place and not too friendly toward them - which is an understatement.

I am very familiar with Boone as I frequently stay @ a friend's home in Linville at the Grandfather Mountain Golf & Country Club. Some of the nicest people in the USA live there. A deer hit my car and knocked off the driver's side mirror and I met some delightful people @ the Toyota dealership in Boone who went above & beyond in assisting us. On another trip, my friend's brakes went out and a mechanic @ a service station in Banner Elk loaned us his new SUV while he repaired our vehicle. Met 2 nice young ladies who own a consignment store in Banner Elk and found out I went to high school with their mother @ Robert E. Lee in Jacksonville, FL. Also enjoyed the giant flea-market type event at the end of school year in Boone. I believe it was items left by students and the monies collected went to charity.

As mentioned by another poster, some of our players have never been out of Florida and have never seen a mountain.
I just don't want them to get too caught up in the beautiful scenery though.
