Speaking of "about right", does anyone know who is still alive in the FCS playoff?

I believe the match up with Toledo is the best we could have hoped for regardless of location. Am I thrilled about going to Montgomery again....no.... but I'm pretty excited to see App face off against Toledo. I would think players from both teams would be fired up about that matchup too.

Re: Just in asu going back to Camilla
I can respect that as long as you went. I would imagine this year will be better than last because Toledo has a much better fan base than Ohio. For post game we went back to car and broke out the leftovers and talked to every App fan around. The trip is what people make of it. I would imagine the restaurants and bars will be better prepared this year for the App crowd.ASUPATCH wrote:Yes I did. Game was great food was wonderful. Montgomery is a crap hole. Zero night life after the game to celebrate. Half the town is boarded up. We saw a few cool historical things, capital building/Rosa parks bus stop. Outside of that, it's a dump.JTApps1 wrote:Did you go last year? I ask because everyone that I have talked to said they had a great time last year as did everyone in our group.ASUPATCH wrote:Would love to play Toledo in any other city hosting a bowl. Montgomery blows, oh well.
It might not be a family destination like Orlando or all out party scene like New Orleans, but they'll roll out the red carpet for us and the game will be great.
Now I'm not saying I want to go here every year, but it beats going to Mobile on the 23rd. It also gives us a national televised game against the best team anyone in the Sun Belt faces in a bowl. New Orleans would have been fun, but playing a 6-6 Southern Miss squad isn't a reward either.

I always thought Chatty was more or less a dump minus the riverfront area so no real difference in the towns. Those games were for a FCS Championship, and this game is for a bowl championship against a team that would easily beat UNI, UMass, and UD.AppSC wrote:100% spot on. Many are fine with this bowl. I have been in high school stadiums that were nicer and more spacious. Appreciate the opponent but feel like our student atheletes and fans deserve a much better bowl game venue.
You just won the Sun Belt Conference title and a free trip to ....Montgomery, AL ....wait.. what? Not very exciting for a SA.
At least Chatt, TN was for a national championship. And yes I was there for those too.

If we win this game, can we change the sign outside of Boone from "3X National Champ" to "2x Camellia Bowl Winner"?JTApps1 wrote:I always thought Chatty was more or less a dump minus the riverfront area so no real difference in the towns. You make some good points. Perhaps you can go to the Cure Bowl and root for them.ASUPATCH wrote:On January 7, 2014, UCF was ranked No. 10 in the seasons final AP Poll, the highest ranking in school history. Its also the largest school in the state of Florida. The brand and name recognition isn't even close in my opinion.

The BOTH of you should just change over to Western Carolina, Campbell or ETSU and rekindle your love affair with 1-AA football and playoffs that 1/3 of the teams eligible for don't even care to participate in. They're short on support and fans.AppSC wrote:100% spot on. Many are fine with this bowl. Good for them. I disagree. Conference co-championship leads to this? BTW, before you "pine" some more about the days of yore, Jerry Moore isn't going to coach us again (or anyone else). Time to move on, or not.
Don't go to Montgomery. Don't watch the game on TV.

When the "I told you so crowd" has to hang their hats on which bowl we're playing in, they've lost worse than Walter Mondale in 84.bigapp wrote:The BOTH of you should just change over to Western Carolina, Campbell or ETSU and rekindle your love affair with 1-AA football and playoffs that 1/3 of the teams eligible for don't even care to participate in. Re: Just in asu going back to Camilla
You are missing the point. The stadium in Montgomery and amenities are a dump. The weather is more likely to be bad vs Florida or in NO. Our players would probably get their first chance to see Disney or Universal in Orlando and much more to see in NO. We win the conference and we get a third place bowl and venue. The only good thing is our opponent. I don't see the love we should be getting.bigapp wrote:The BOTH of you should just change over to Western Carolina, Campbell or ETSU and rekindle your love affair with 1-AA football and playoffs that 1/3 of the teams eligible for don't even care to participate in. It's not about love. It is about money. If we can show that we can bring a lot of fans to a bowl year after year then NO would be more likely to take us. Just keep winning and good things will come. Hey it could be worse, we could be the stink right now.Rekdiver wrote:You are missing the point. The stadium in Montgomery and amenities are a dump. How about both? Plus, throw in "Sun Belt Conference Champions", will reflect a program moving forward and up.

And the sign at the entrance to campus sort of across from the HCC near the administration building. Needs updating. The 3 National championships were great but that is the past now. You can't live in or on the past. Our present is awesome and the future looks even better.

Re: Just in asu going back to Camilla
I hope those pining for 1-AA remember the "crowds" we had at some of our home playoff games. I remember the empty seats against Nova, Maine and quite a few others at The Rock. I attended all 3 NC games and they were a blast but so was the Camellia Bowl last year. And to be honest I haven't heard a peep about the 1-aa playoffs in any of the media in ATL or on ESPN for that matter.
Enjoy where you are...it's all App football and doesn't get much better than that.

Re: Just in asu going back to Camilla
The complaints about the town of Montgomery are way off base. I was there and will be there again. Good live music and bars. Restaurants were good too. Maybe you went to bed too early or stayed at some out of town hotel. Come down by the Renaissance and Embassy where the teams stay. Dreamlands BBQ catered our tailgate, not my choice of Q but very good and the bananna pudding was spot on. I think the yosef tailgate was good, didn't really make it past the toilets in that direction. Stadium was old but it fit the size crowd. If you live life by what you think others percieve of you maybe it's not great. But if you just live life it's a great bowl event. I wouldn't miss it for anything.

Re: Just in asu going back to Camilla
It's pretty simple. Support your Apps. I'd go watch em play if the bowl game was in Statesboro (for illustrative purposes I couldn't think of a worse place). We all went to Appalachian and if we learned anything during our time there we learned how to have a good time wherever we are! In the words of someone wiser than me "Get on, Get off, or Get run over".

Re: Just in asu going back to Camilla
If people are upset about the "lack of respect" we are getting ,they should purchase tickets to this game. The ONLY reason that ULL is in NO is that the bowl knows they will sell a lot of tickets (same with Troy in Mobile). There is no better way to impress the bowls than to consistently sell out the App allotment and back the bowl with App fans. It is all about money, if NO sees we have a history of great home, away and bowl attendance then it makes it that much easier to be chosen. So, everyone that is complaining put your money where your mouth is and buy some tickets.

Re: Just in asu going back to Camilla
One day, people are going to realize winning the Camellia Bowl is a bigger deal and gets you more exposure than the FCS National Championship, but today is not that day. It's amazing the success we are having yet people still find things to complain about. Yeah, the FCS playoffs were cool but so are bowl games. The quality of our team is exceptional right now, especially when you consider it is only our third year in the FBS. The FCS is a joke at this point, every year is just the NDSU invitational.
Meanwhile, we went 11-2 last year and could finish 10-3 this year. That's very, very good. We also took Tennessee to overtime this year, and honestly outplayed them. We are getting considerably more competitive on a national scale on a more consistent basis, if a few things go our way we could have some huge moments in our future. Look at WMU. But in order for that to happen we have to climb a latter of sorts, and this is just another rung on that latter. Please, if you can, get to Montgomery in a few days for a great time and another great chance to grow our program.

Re: Just in asu going back to Camilla
I believe App fans are smart enough football fans to understand the matchup with Toledo on ESPN is a good thing. Most would just like to see Marcus and the others, who have worked so hard to get us where we are today, be able to experience playing a bowl game in Orlando or New Orleans. I believe we'll all feel much better about everything once we are able to go to another bowl, and get rid of that feeling that regardless of our success, we are locked into Montgomery every year.

Well if the Camellia Bowl was in Charlotte we would probably be invited every year - ULL is going to go to NOLA if they are eligible -
