Re: Recruiting, 2013
Dante Jones and Tacoi Sumler could be deadly in the slot.... With Price, Malachi, Sumler, Peacock, Washington all coming back, our receiving corp should be stout.

Re: Recruiting, 2013
With what we have coming back at WR, I would expect Dante Jones -- or any other wideout we sign in February -- is a strong candidate for a redshirt in 2013.

Re: Recruiting, 2013
He looks like a good candidate for returns. Sumler and Washington have the straight line speed, but it looks like Dante uses his blockers and picks his lanes better.

Where's The Beef? Since Ledford was in the midwest during the off week I'm looking for some jucos being brought in to shore up the OL.

Re: Recruiting, 2013
Washington has a pretty great year returning until the injuries added up. Didn't get to see enough of Sumner but with his speed he should be a natural. No offense but we need more speed than Bethard returning kicks on a regular basis.GlassOnion wrote:He looks like a good candidate for returns. Word is that App State has picked up a transfer; A former punter at The University of Miami (FL), Ryan McGuirt.

Re: Recruiting, 2013
You have to look deeper than just the number of names on the roster. There are 22 offensive linemen listed. 10 are walk ons and not likely to help out that much. It is highly questionable if Kaylan Jones ever plays again and who knows what the outcome of Dufort's situation will be. Ian Bernard is not a DI player. Henderson and Evans dropped off the radar after not being able to beat out walk on Tucker Lee. By my count that leaves Ledford with 7 players he can actually count on and 3 of those are RS Freshmen. We NEED more beef.mtnjax wrote:I think you need to go check out the roster on goasu and see just how many OL we actually have. most of them FR and SO. the 3 OLKgfish wrote:Where's The Beef? Re: Recruiting, 2013
We do need beef up front. We've lost to 3 big physical O-lines in the last 3 years. 6-5 300lbs is still 6-5 300lbs at the end of the game (displaces speed). Need 2-3 each recruiting class and the gap has cost us. Remember Kerry Brown and Company? Coach Ledford will get us there.

Re: Recruiting, 2013
I have to agree with those that think we need more beef on the OL. If you look at Illinois State's OL, there smallest guy was their center who was 6' 4" and 290. Most of their OL were at 330 and two of them at 335.
Maine, Villanova and Montana, which represent all the opponents we've lost to in the playoffs since 2009, had huge OL's. I understand what speed brings to a team. However, if we truly want to be competitive at the FBS level, we need more beef! Just take a look at other FBS rosters and we don't even remotely compare in that department.
Remember how we lost this year against Illinois State. And you can't blame the kicker on this one, especially one of NFL caliber.

Had it been blocked at the line of scrimmage I would agree. That kick was blocked in the backfield. Not the kicker's fault.mountaineerman wrote:Sorry but SAMs kick was way low it wasn't all the lines faultELCubano1 wrote:I have to agree with those that think we need more beef on the OL. Re: Recruiting, 2013
It was not Sam's fault. However, it had nothing to do with beef on the line, it had more to do with our formation and their ability to see the hole in that formation. That's not an argument against size on the OL but I don't think it proves the point of the need for size there.Kgfish wrote:Had it been blocked at the line of scrimmage I would agree. Re: Recruiting, 2013
For the type of offense we run, it isn't all about size. 6-5 and 330 is great, but if you can't move, then what good are you in our offense? It's all about technique and footwork with O-linemen. We cannot sacrifice mobility for size alone.
