I agree with '78. And JJ isn't exactly Scott's prefered type of QB. We all know he prefers a run every down threat QB.
How do you know what Satt's preferred QB type is? He tailors the offense to what he has. Richie was never a 1,000 yard rusher like AE was because he was a hell of a passer. the reason AE ran so much to begin with was because he was a pretty raw passer early and developed into a good one. His rushing attempts also went down. Right now, we've got QB's that are more in the mold of Richie than AE and i actually prefer that. I don't think our QB's need to be running a whole lot. Look what happened to JJ and Kam Bryant this year. both injured knees on runs. They need to be more in that Cam Newton mold of pass first run to escape and do the occasional option play

Well....How do I know? I asked. Your points are well taken but Scott has made no secret that he prefers a QB who is a threat to run at any time. It's in his playbook and we didn't see that whole playbook opened this year. You do taylor an offense to what you have but if you look at most of the true multi spread offenses that are run now the QB has to be accounted for, as a runner, on every play, which takes up a defender to spy on him or causes a defensive realignment such as we have to do when we defend the TO. You bring up that JJ and KB1 were injured on runs, which is true. But I was a LB who suffered a career ending leg injury playing D. It's part of football no one likes to talk about but injuries can happen to anyone at anytime on any play. Unfortunately, if you choose a true spread offense, it's a risk that you have to take. Many may not like it but the multi spread is what it is.

Richie ran for 936 yards in the 2005 season, Jamal had 328 rushing yards this year. I also think Jamal is a great quarterback and he probably would have gone for 500+ if it were not for the knee injury but Richie's legs were more of a weapon.

Jamal is the best pure passer in the conference and if his knee is 100%, I don't think that 4,000 total passing/rushing yards is out of the question.

I will be curious to see what kind of quarterbacks Coach Satt brings in for the future, I am confident we will continue to have very good play from that position.

Agree with firemoose aand asumike. It is not a slam on JJ in any way to say that he does not fit our offense as well as a running QB. JJ is a great passer and I am sure Sat will play his best QB, but I doubt Sat would recruit a JJ style QB.

As to the Cam Newton reference, we do not run the same offense as the panthers but even Cam is more of a natural runner than JJ. While Sat may very well build the offensive scheme around the QB he currently has, for the future it is better to do the opposite and that is why I agree that Sat will be recruiting QBs that run. Due to the inherent injuries to such players, we need several.

I am going to enjoy watching JJ's senior season as one of the best passers we have seen at ASU, but I am also excited about where we are headed with that position.

As I've said elsewhere, bringing in a QB with each class if a priority, but I disagree that this is the top priority right now. We do have depth at the QB position (my opinion) but we should always build for the future at this position. Our offense requires a true dual threat QB, but that doesn't mean he has to be a 1000 yard rusher. He needs to run enough to take advantage of opportunities given and keep the D honest...always having to consider the threat. Richie was a perfect example, and JJ is also.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this class develops.

I disagree about us being in good shape at the qb position, the thing that worries me is most of backups have been in the program for atleast 2 years, and really havent given us anything to be hopeful that they are ready to take over the playcalling as starters. Now, to be fair, they have been in the program when "the three stooges" were running the offense, and probably have not got the quality coaching they needed to improve, but still, got my doubts any of them could lead the team.

Recent tweet from Jamal Jackson:

Jamal JJ Jackson ‏@JamalASU12
Y'all follow this future Mountaineer @d1dre3

That is Deondre Singleton, 2-star prospect with offers from Air Force, Marshall and Penn State.
Rivals Profile

Not sure if it's official but that would be a great pick-up! Listed as "Athlete" but Rivals article from November said that he is being looked at as a cornerback and the Penn State coaches mentioned the possibility of early playing time.

Thanks, Mike:

I'll put him in the database but not in the commitment list for now. But it sure sounds like a commitment:

Sure does. Brian said on the Rivals site that this would be a big weekend, wouldn't be surprised to see some official commitments popping up over the next few days. DJ mentioned on Around the Mountain that both offensive and defensive lines are a priority. Very interested to see who we get in the trenches.

We had 10 recruits and parents visit today. They had lunch with reps from each of the colleges. I can't tell you all their names since they weren't all introduced but my sister, who was the rep for the College of Health Sciences, only met offically with three and their parents. Dante Jones, Rashaad Townes and Parker Collins. I can tell you they were told that 4 had committed and the 6 others were prospective recruits. Since we know that Jones and Townes are commits and that Covington (who was not there) is already enrolled then that leaves two others. It's been reported on other sites that Cox was coming and I have now been told that Vinson tweeted he was here so I guess that covers those. The athletics academics advisor told my sister that he needed her for the next two weekends at least and most likely three so we've got quite a few more prospects coming in.

Hopefully JJ's Tweet about Singleton is correct. Would be a nich grab and continuing the stacking of the DB's and/or WR's. Even without anymore we seem to be set there for several years to come. Now I want to see some BEEF come in.

According to the message board of one of our conference opponents, OL Parker Collins (6-3, 285) of North Augusta High School in North Augusta, Ga., is in Boone this weekend. He's been getting quite a lot of interest lately and would be an excellent get for us.

That was put on one of our other boards as well. His pic is on the front page. Agree it would be a good get. 285 coming out of HS isn't bad and leaves some room to add some more burger.

Had to edit my previous post. My sister met with Collins also. I showed her his pic to be sure. Interesting thing is she said he wasn't the biggest kid there. She said there was another who was several inches taller and looked bigger. I liked the sound of that.

I wonder if that could be the kid from Davidson Day, OL Schuyler Coleman (6-6, 330). I read where he's committed to UNC, but I believe it's an invited-walkon deal.

Could be. She was reading over my shoulder as I read your post and she said that sounded about right. Said he easily could be 3 inches taller and was visibly bigger, even from a distance. With Collins at 6'3" and 285 the other kid must be a horse.
