There are only three reasons why I can see anyone not wanting ASU to play on the big stage....

1. Fear of Failure
2. Ticket prices going up to $30 or so
3. Enjoys playing small private schools.........and beating Western for 50 years straight....

It can't be the playoffs because attendance is down 37% foir playoff games vesres regular season.
Seems that some may be watching the FBS teams we might get to play?
National Championship verses a Bowl Game? Who reall pays attention to the NC's but us?

If we have to go to Frisco for a NC then why not go to NO or somewhere in FLA for a 1 game NATIONAL TV audience?
We can put more that 30k in the stands for a Wake, ECU, Marshall, Charlotte.....

It's okay to be scared but I think we can pull it off. I appreciate the business approach that KP has taken on this. Regional rivalries and no new student fees..........It has to make sense!

They have said before that the reason they didn't schedule App was because of the chance of losing, not which division we are in.

If they are going to play an FCS team it might as well be an easier one. I believe they will play us when we are FBS because if they lose they are not losing to a team from a lower division.

But we will be playing with the same number of scholarships for a change (assuming we can afford them). We will be more of a threat.

Exactly, but losing to a team on a level playing field would be easier for Wake to take than losing to a lower division team.

I'm pro-FBS, however, one could wish to remain FCS for the playoffs without regard to attendance. Personally, I think most fans prefer a playoff structure as opposed to the current bowl set up where teams with a losing record can play in the extended season.

Well it is a done deal but I don't agree with your points. To use your logic with attendance being down 37% I guess that would mean that 63% of fans prefer FCS because they come to the playoffs and I just don't THINK that is correct. I would guess 63% is high.
Now to your points
1. I don't think there is a fear of failure but there may be caution when it comes to monetary concerns.
2. Although I don't think raising ticket prices would be great for attendance, if we went to $30 that would be double the ticket prices in the SB
3. I think we still have a ways to go to get 50 straight but I think EVERYBODY would like to see some stronger competition.

Bottom line is that BOTH sides have very valid points for them. Neither side is stupid, slow, scared or any of that. We all just have prefrences. The only thing that really stumps me is really on the FBS side of things. The FCS guys can be disapointed and express "sour grapes", nobody likes to lose and for them things will never be the same, but now that the FBS side has won why can't they leave it alone? They won. What is left to sell? It really is over. We don't know when the bid will come but it will. What the heck is your argument? The client has been sold. It almost seems like this has been as hard on SOME FBS guys as it has been on the FCS guys. A mentor told me many (too many) years ago "Take the order and leave before you talk your self out of it."

It's over lets not act like we belong in Washington. I THINK we are ALL smarter than that and I KNOW we all love ASU football.

Many of our fans don't have a firm grip of reality of where App State is in the college athletic landscape, and that is on both sides of the spectrum, from "join the ACC" to " I like playing in D2".

OOPS sorry. I didn't realize that we had that many fans that just don't have a grip. I guess many of them just are not smart enough to make a decision. Saint is right on about this. A great number of people I encounter either don't know the difference between the divisions, don't follow conference realignment, or don't have a true idea of where we stand in college athletics. Message boards aren't a good place to get a very good sample, as people on here are the more hard core and educated fans, both pro FCS and FBS. My guess is any kind of survey would look like a typical bell curve with hard cores on both sides, and the majority in the middle who don't care one way or the other and will support App either way, or who have mixed feelings about moving and see the pros and cons from both going FBS or staying FCS

Bcoach, the fact of the matter is that if you or I did not attend or speak up we may have missed our chance to complain either way. As for a survey that is just simply ridiculous....It would end up most likely as canes said a bell curve...except it would probably be inverted...lots on the right and lots on the left....move vs. don't move.

I for one trust our administration COMPLETELY to make an informed decision. THE COMMITTEE, (not the one calling plays) seemed to have a good grip on the financials, the landscape, and the needs of the University.

I can't impact a move....but if I could I'd like to see us move up ASAP.

The travel will be more difficult. But I honestly do not see our home crowds decreasing at all....on the other hand I can foresee us needing to add seating to meet the need.

Beating some really good football teams would be fantastic.
Would bring a lot more excitement to Boone.

If we took up residence in the cellar, I agree but I honestly don't see that happening in either the Sunbelt or CUSA. I think we would drop to about .500 for a year or two max, and then climb. Of course, that is barring other factors (coaching losses, etc.) that could derail us.

Not too sure our administration is up to the task of even getting us into an FBS conference though. Pretty disappointed that they had not worked continuously behind the scenes for years before the moratorium was over getting everything set up and ready for us to go FBS right away.

CC insulting the SB didn't exactly help our cause. He thought we had a CUSA invite in the bag. They were flaunting it at the Va Tech game and to coaches. We were either misled or someone was completely naive about the situation. You never assume anything until a deal is done. Somebody dropped the ball and we're having a hard time picking it back up.
