Coldest Football Game in Boone

Trying to remember the coldest football game I ever attended in Boone and the one that sticks out is the Dec 5, 1987 playoff win against GSU (19-0). I believe temps were around 19 degrees on that day, but not for sure. Anybody add a colder game than this?

That's the one that comes to mind for me, too. There was the freezing rain game against ccc in the 90s that might have been more miserable, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't as cold.

Im thinking of the Southern Illinois playoff game in 2005. I remember it was freezing rain and sleet. It was pretty miserable. I looked up and everyone had a layer of ice on the brim of their hats.

I am thinking of two games, the aforementioned Stink game...I was there with my son. Then there was a game in the early 80's against Vermin, televised by ABC. Ours was the late game. Duke and Maryland was the first one. In Durham it was rainy and cold. In Boone it was snowy and blizzard like. Brownie was the QB and threw a memorable TD pass to our, now, Assoc AD Rick Beasley in the North Endzone.

When the game started the stands were full, over 18k. When the blizzard hit mid second qtr., the students ran for the dorms much like they do in the 3rd and 4th qtrs today.

By the end of the game, which we lost BTW, there may have been 500 people left in, then snowy Conrad Stadium. I and fellow band mate and former the director of the BOD Jay Jackson were two of them.

We must have been in the BOD close to the same time. Jay Jackson was a contemporary of mine in the band. Remember a night game in the mid-70's that was freezing cold, so cold it was painful to put your lips on the trombone mouthpiece. We had a streaker that night run through the band as we marced on for pregame!

I remember the streaker. Ran right behind the drum line which I was on. I think it was '74 against The Kullowhee Kitties. My mother was there

The 19-0 against the stink was the coldest I can remember in Boone.
The lost at Montana was the coldest of any games I've been to.

I'm sure the 1987 game against the stink was colder, but that was five years before my time in Boone. I was at the Soutern Illinois game, and stayed to the bitter (cold) end with my dad. We still talk about that game an how miserable it was, but it can be only so bad when 1. App is playing, and and 2. App is winning. We ate at the Mountain House afterward (turning down the offer of free admission to the MBB game against Davidson), but didn't warm up really until we reached the house about two hours outside of Boone.

The '87 GSU game was cold; more like single digits, but my most miserable game was the ccc game referenced earlier in the 90's. Ity's the only game I've ever left from in the 3rd quarte.r

The Furmson game was my choice. The turf was green and cold in the first half and it started close to half-time. By the start of the 3rd quarter the turf was white, icy, and Beasley's sharp routes were reduced to sludge and the Furple beat us. Of course "He Who Cannot Be Named" was the head coach at that time, too.

I wasn't at some of the later games in the 80's but I remember the Davidson game in 1975 as very cloudy, very cold, and very disappointing despite winning 50-7. We'd lost to UCLA the weekend before and also lost the Tangerine Bowl because of the loss.

I am very young, and the coldest for me was in November 2000 (I think) vs. Liberty. I would have been 6, and it really stands out to me because it was my first Appalachian football game. I remember we got in for a free can of food. At halftime people just went and stood in the bathrooms to get warm. I'm sure this isn't the coldest ever, but it was the coldest for me.
