Also from the Tar Pit:
"Fun FACTS:
#1 - This IS HappyAppy's "Super Bowl" this season. Anyone who tells you different either knows nothing about sports, or is hedging there emotions in the event of a loss.
#2 - This IS a "no win" game for UNC, and exactly why UNC has avoided playing HappyAppy. We win - then it's "well y'all should have won. You're in a Power 5 Conference and we're just a little western North Carolina School." We lose - then it's "ha! ha! David beats Goliath! We beat another Power 5 program with our "humble" team from the mountains of western North Carolina."
#3 - For those of us who live near/in HappyAppy Country a loss would be WORSE than devastating. Don't get me wrong. I pulled for App in the Michigan game and was excited to see them win 3 consecutive National Championships. However, HappyAppy fans have become completely delusional and being around them is becoming unbearable.
-----#3a - App was the #1 FCS Team in the country and coming off back-to-back National Championships - a great FCS team.
-----#3b - Michigan, although #5 (pre-season ranking) at the time, proved to be a very good but not great football team in 2007. They finished ranked #18 after having dropped out of the Top 25 twice during the season.
#4 - So far, HappyAppy has only beaten ONE ACC team in their history - Wake Forest. And they have NEVER beaten a Wake forest team that finished the season with a winning record. In fact, HappyAppy's best win was against a 4-7 WFU team in 1983 - all other Wake teams had 3 or fewer wins on the season. HappyAppy did manage a Tie against a 6-4-1 Wake team in 1988.
-----#4a - App is 7-15-1 vs Wake Forest with their 7 wins coming against Wake teams that were a combined 18-58-1 (average 2.6 - 8.3)."

Now you're going to make me dig back through thereappstatealum wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2019 10:38 am......like......Overcashed wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2019 10:37 amI poked around a little yesterday just to see, there's some interesting takes for sure happening on there.

One that I can remember well is an App fan made a well written post about the history of our program and our culture including packing Kidd Brewer the rim. A UNC fan then said "Having put two boys through App and attending many games over the past 6 years, I would say you are greatly overstating your attendance at the ball games. Most of the time the place is half full and the students leave at halftime." in reply. I doubt he's been to a game if Kidd Brewer is "half full", maybe he's getting it confused with Kenan over the last few seasons. Sure students might roll out early sometimes, but that's only because we have a 40 point lead by then.
Lots of other posts about how this is our "super bowl", referencing that Ed Hardin article from yesterday.
We're the "kings of the kitty pool"...
Just look into these threads, nothing too terrible but a lot of confidence from a group of people that probably cared very little about football last season:
https://247sports.com/college/north-car ... 68/?page=1
https://247sports.com/college/north-car ... 135680178/
Also some praise:
"I don't think we can tell much from App's first 2 games. Playing in Kenan ought to give us a little edge, and that little edge may be what we need to win. It's possible we're a lot better but it's also possible these are evenly matched teams or that right now, they are more than just evenly matched but further developed and a little better.Hate to say that but App has won a lot of games the past few years."
Followed by:
"No edge at all. ASU goes to places like Michigan and PSU...over 100k attend...and ASU competes. Also...ASU fans will travel well to this game."

Re: Anyone monitoring the UNC messages boards?
I heard them say, “we have nothing to gain from this if we win” and “this is Apps Superbowl”. Honestly, I’m on the opposite end of both. I think App will not gain much from a win, outside of some better awareness on the recruiting trail and local media markets, but I think most will say “yes, App should’ve won”. I think the UNC players and coaches are circling this one to say that they have to win it to show they are moving in the right direction. For me, I know we are a better program and team. Problem is, I don’t know if our defense is ready.

Re: Anyone monitoring the UNC messages boards?
I've tried talking to my UNC grad sister, her UNC grad husband, and my two UNC grad co-workers about the game. The response was always the same. "App is playing UNC this weekend? In football?" followed by some comment about basketball starting up soon. Though one co-worker conceded App will probably win big. In short, sadly it was kind of like a reverse of talking to fellow App fans during basketball season.
Re: Anyone monitoring the UNC messages boards?
Wait ... you mean ... UNC has a football team? Who knew?
Seriously, though, it's hard to focus on work today. Saturday will be here soon enough.
I think App's D will decide the game; and by that, I mean it will be WAY better than anyone expects. Including Coach Brown.

People need to put some thought into their insults. I’d rather be king of the kiddie pool than the dregs of the cesspool.

Add a pressure cooker amount off arrogance and a pinch more delusion to their stew and you will have it. Im the only App grad in my family of Carolina Blue. I grew up with these folk. Hyper Delusional fits. Especially after they think the NCAA tried them unfairly.

Re: Anyone monitoring the UNC messages boards?
CHeat fans have to be the most arrogant and entitled fan base out there. I only know one fan that can even take a bit of trash talk, my Uncle. All others are happy to dish it out but start crying once they get it back.

Re: Anyone monitoring the UNC messages boards?
I have to say that I think most of our fans do see this as our superbowl. This game and series have garnered more attention and threads on this board than any other series I can think of. Not saying it is a bad way to view it, just saying that I agree it is our superbowl to most of our fans. Heck, if we can say that we were UNCC's superbowl, not sure why anyone would be upset to have the inverse said about us. I just hope the team doesn't feel this way and is ready to play. I would hate to think that we waited all this time and built this game up so much only to come out flat and get boat raced. I don't think that happens, but I also didn't think Miami would come to the Rock and stomp us the way they did, or that we would lose to Wake, or UMass, etc. It is football and that ball bounces funny sometimes, lets all hope this Saturday it bounces in our direction more than theirs.

Re: Anyone monitoring the UNC messages boards?
Our "super bowl" (pejorative term as The article uses it).....is/are, SunBelt Championship Game, Bowl game. Period. Any other stance feeds the "little brother " syndrome and is not in line with team goals. Not interested.

Re: Anyone monitoring the UNC messages boards?
While I agree with you, reading this board sure paints a different picture. The desire to play and ultimately beat them is expressed with more regularity than any other game I can remember reading about including the SunBelt Championship and bowl games.appstate77 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2019 12:04 pmOur "super bowl" (pejorative term as The article uses it).....is/are, SunBelt Championship Game, Bowl game. Not superbowl, but we can accomplish in 1 game my 2 greatest sports wishes for any given Saturday. App State Wins. UNC-cheat takes a loss.
