Would need to keep winning. I recall last year an AP voter said he voted for us because we were beating everyone badly...until the meltdown game against the team whom shall not be mentioned.

As an SC native, this isn’t even the biggest game against a “Carolina” this year for me, personally. But I would really like to win to put another dent in the narrative that we’re JV.
But ultimately the rep, the rankings, all that isn’t a goal. It’s a by-product of the goal of being the best team we can be. When we get distracted by the trappings, we lose.

A win will be great and a long time coming to get the chance for it.
Unless we win really really big it will not sway the bar in our favor any. As far as rankings or notoriety.

I know the transitive property really has no place in college football because every day is different and teams have good and bad days. But for me, this one time I would love to beat Carolina by more points than any other in state school. That is how you are the State Champion! If scoring matters in the polls, then I will justify using it in the state rankings.

One thing that UNC is right about for sure is that this is a no win situation for them and a loss for them would be devastating. This is our Super Bowl. We are the Super Bowl for ETSU, Charlotte, WCU, etc. but they are ours.FTE_rawr wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2019 10:50 amAlso from the Tar Pit:
"Fun FACTS:
#1 - This IS HappyAppy's "Super Bowl" this season. Anyone who tells you different either knows nothing about sports, or is hedging there emotions in the event of a loss.
#2 - This IS a "no win" game for UNC, and exactly why UNC has avoided playing HappyAppy. We win - then it's "well y'all should have won. You're in a Power 5 Conference and we're just a little western North Carolina School." We lose - then it's "ha! ha! David beats Goliath! We beat another Power 5 program with our "humble" team from the mountains of western North Carolina."
#3 - For those of us who live near/in HappyAppy Country a loss would be WORSE than devastating. Don't get me wrong. I pulled for App in the Michigan game and was excited to see them win 3 consecutive National Championships. However, HappyAppy fans have become completely delusional and being around them is becoming unbearable.
-----#3a - App was the #1 FCS Team in the country and coming off back-to-back National Championships - a great FCS team.
-----#3b - Michigan, although #5 (pre-season ranking) at the time, proved to be a very good but not great football team in 2007. They finished ranked #18 after having dropped out of the Top 25 twice during the season.
#4 - So far, HappyAppy has only beaten ONE ACC team in their history - Wake Forest. And they have NEVER beaten a Wake forest team that finished the season with a winning record. In fact, HappyAppy's best win was against a 4-7 WFU team in 1983 - all other Wake teams had 3 or fewer wins on the season. HappyAppy did manage a Tie against a 6-4-1 Wake team in 1988.
-----#4a - App is 7-15-1 vs Wake Forest with their 7 wins coming against Wake teams that were a combined 18-58-1 (average 2.6 - 8.3)."
I don't believe we should ever play a SoCon team or FCS in general right now for the same reason UNC should not play us unless we are a P5 team. A no win situation for one team and the Super Bowl for the other team.
He is technically right about those wins but we were FCS/I-AA and should not have beaten any good I-A/FBS teams because we just did not have the players.
We should never be able to beat UNC being that we are a SBC team but based on talent alone we can play with these guys. We have several players that could easily start there.
The one way to get respect is beat these guys. All we got to do is win.

We won't be ranked regardless of the score but as long as we win I do think we will move up in RV some unless nobody ahead of us loses. As far as notoriety I'm with you. We have to win by 17 or more for us to get any additional respect.

The best team we can be is better than SC and UNC this year. We don't have the same ceiling as those teams but where they are now we can win it.appchicago wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2019 7:11 amAs an SC native, this isn’t even the biggest game against a “Carolina” this year for me, personally. I do think the SC game is a bigger game because nationally the ACC is considered behind the SEC. If we beat both of them and are undefeated we are not only ranked but in the top 20 for sure. We have the talent to at least beat UNC right now but we have a lot going against us. I expect a loss because I don't think our coaches are going to prep us as well as they should but we are certainly good enough to shock the ACC.
Ask around to fans of any other team in the ACC and they are all pulling for us. Even Wake Forest wants us to beat UNC. Nobody in the ACC likes the Tarheels. This almost feels like when we beat Michigan. We all know the entire Big Ten was pulling hard for us. The entire ACC is behind us today.

Re: Anyone monitoring the UNC messages boards?
People discussed this as our Superbowl and dozens of other intangible topics....but it is huge for us and I primarily chalk it up to future recruiting.....so it is arguably one of the biggest games for us due to regional dynamics and potential for our program even if UNC didn't have Mack back and say was 0 - 12. It would be sweet if in a strange way beating Mack Brown would serve our program as a catalyst yet again.
In the meantime I'm just trying to remain positive and ignore my reality inner voices.
JUST WIN BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
