First BCS program to visit the ROCK?

I doubt very seriously that a school from a BCS conference will be in Boone in the foreseeable future.

Any out of conference FBS games we have will likely be the ones mentioned above, which are not from BCS conferences.

Check Sun Belt schedules for the last 5 years. Very common to get BCS schools to come there. Usually a 2 for 1, but it's a regular thing. That said...probably won't happen for us until we're full FBS for a few years.

With our ties and history with Shawn Elliott there is a very slim chance that South Carolina could be our first SEC school to play against us, however I doubt they would come to Boone but a game against ASU and SC at Bank of America stadium would be an awesome sight, and only a two hour drive for both schools.

That could be a 2-1-1 series, with two in Columbia, one in Charlotte and one in Boone, which would give us a good five or six years to get KBS up to a good level, maybe 40,000 seats? It would only be 8K over our largest crowds, now.

I think UMass is a good possibility. Another recent upgrade with history and looking for more winnable games. Not that we'll be a push over, but in their eyes a potentially weaker opponent.

i looked solely at schools recently that moved up. i saw the troy line up w duke and they played ok state and miss state but really nothing else of stature but looking at marshall as another 1aa schools that moved, i cant find too many schools of bcs caliber thats gone to huntington besides wva. when we're talking about bcs teams, i dont see many coming here due to cost of travel and low returns financially...remember its not about football and student athletes...its a business. wake maybe...and that would be some time. i honestly dont see any fbs teams coming here within 10 years. not a downer...just realistic. the stadium needs to grow by at least 17k to get to nearly 40 k just to house opponents fans and make enough money. uncc is a good bet and i really think they become a fast rival because...well...they're deuche bags who gloat about beating us before they take the first snap. but it would be a great rival due to proximity. that does apply to wake but again...we're the ugly step child. ecu maybe...but thats a stretch too. i think youll see a lot of old dominion and maybe a western kentucky. as for moving up...some think we could be sec bound before the paint dries...the sec would take ecu before us. i dont hate the move to the sun belt but im a realist...its gonna take 5-10 years before we know how things are going. if we recruit well and keep good coaches, we'll be able to compete sooner than later...maybe 7-4 or 8-3 but if those things dont fall in line it will be very quiet in a 40k stadium. just my opinion.

People still seem to be confusing BCS and FBS terms. We will have plenty of FBS teams in Boone, and yes...that includes non-conference. Getting home and home arrangements with BCS programs will be a huge challenge. I don't think it's impossible, but we need to be reasonable. I actually think we are more likely to get Duke in Boone before Wake. I would love to renew the series with Wake, but the results of that series are precisely the reason we will have to be patient before that becomes likely. Duke is a wildcard in scheduling (for football). There are other lower level BCS programs that could be a possibility. Vanderbilt comes to mind...probably the only SEC team that might consider it. Maybe some Old Big East teams. Who knows.

I agree that we need to temper our expectations. This is going to develop over time. To me, it's exciting though.

Moonshine this is not directed at you but you had the best list: So I did some research. I think there are a lot of teams who might visit the Rock. I'd say we travel as well an anyone and I'd also say that more people will come to see Ohio, BG, heck even Eastern Michigan as would come see The Citadel.

shoot guys, playing The Citadel, Coastal, Furman, Wofford, Elon, and Montana we averaged more than any program in the MAC and all but ECU, UCF, and UTEP in C-USA.....I just do not get where all the doom and glum is about people not coming to Boone. The ACC, SEC, Big 12, and Big "10" are different but.....

Money will definitely be a deciding factor on which programs App can get up the mountain. There is no doubt we'll see an increase in ticket prices. Hopefully Cobb and co. will be smart enough to gradually raise prices and not hit the fan base up with a huge increase over one season. We, as fans, must be prepared to pay more if we don't want to see the students carrying most of the burden. I could easily see ticket prices hitting the $40-$45 range in the next couple of seasons, especially for priority seating (between the 30s). With this in mind, we'll either need a big time donor pony up for a BCS program or settle for middle to low tier FBS teams in the near future.

I have no idea, I just offered up an answer to the question. I also did not offer a timeline, just an example of the type of BCS teams I would expect to see venture up the mountain first. With that said, it looks like Troy does ok with scheduling BCS teams without a 40,000 seat stadium.

I'm pretty sure any of the FBS games will be home and home arrangements, so each school's "pay" will be their home gate*. The FCS home only games are the ones we'll have to pay for so we may not have many of those to begin with.

I believe teams are typically paid for the un-returned game. Also the paid attendance would be closer to 20,000 after we exclude students, band and guests. So the # is closer to $800k @ $40/ticket. So I expect we'd get paid close to what we gross for a home game. It's the price we pay for having a top tier program travel up the mountain.

Getting back to the original post my bet would be Maryland. Close enough that travel isn't horrible and not rich enough to buy 4 home OOC games. I could also see: Miss State, Duke, Ole Miss, U Conn and Indiana. Probably in that order.
