I really don't like playing Campbell, surely there is an average FCS team that would be willing to play us. Campbell is Savannah State bad.

Re: McNeese series cancelled, Campbell added to 2014
I don't know about it being bad. We will be FBS in 2014.
It would suck to have an FBS schedule and potentially struggle with it and on top of that have a McNeese who has the potential of beating us also create a bit of a mess.
We have Michigan on the schedule and will have an SBC slate, so I think this is good.

This switch makes sense, good change. NOT!!! Who thought this was a good move? We should have gone to McNeese and fulfilled that contract. All of our fans who talk trash about Charlotte's schedule should just shut up now. Campbell, real powerhouse!!! Butler High could probably beat them.
I don't see why you would switch one FCS for another. Esp a decent one for a awful one. If they did this to add an FBS to the schedule it would make sense. NOT to add the Camels.
If one of the positives of moving up was playing an improved schedule, this is not a step in the right direction.

Good. Playing a BSC team at home is much better than playing any other FCS team on the road.

True, except schedules and contracts have to match up.Goapps15 wrote:I really don't like playing Campbell, surely there is an average FCS team that would be willing to play us. Campbell is Savannah State bad.

It's different that Charlotte. UNCC is playing them because their schedule has to have a full slate of weaklings so they can have a winning record.Appersrule wrote:This switch makes sense, good change. NOT!!! We're hosting Campbell as our only FCS team because we can't afford to pay SoCon/CAA ect teams to come play here.

The right move.
If App plays away, it needs to be an FBS game that cuts us a $750,000+ check, McNeese is not that game. Not hot on the Camels, but it is the correct move. We'll still have an upgraded schedule, and we'll start seeing a better OOC slate soon anyway.

Sun Belt teams are not allowed to play away games against FCS teams. This was destined to be bought out.Appersrule wrote:This switch makes sense, good change. NOT!!! Who thought this was a good move? Re: McNeese series cancelled, Campbell added to 2014
People are not getting my point. The complaint was if we are going to play an FCS, why not pay McNeese to come to Boone or find a decent FCS school or even a SoCon school? Having to play Campbell might as well be playing Lenior Rhyne or Gardner-Webb.
I was not upset we weren't going to McNeese, but for the love of pete, you would think you could get Western or Chattanooga to come instead of Campbell.

As i said the other day we are working to get home and homes with ECU and Marshall don't know when that will pan out but know we are working. We also have to play at the big house and many Sun Belt teams that year hardly a weak schedule. What if McNeese wouldn't come to boone without us making a return trip? We don't know all the details

Because we can't afford to.Appersrule wrote: why not pay McNeese to come to Boone or find a decent FCS school or even a SoCon school?
Our OOC schedule is going to be 1,000x better than when we were FCS. Having to stomach a Campbell game is weaksauce, but we have to do it.
Campbell at home>McNeese away.

We did fulfill the contract. There is a buy-out clause, and we're buying the game out. Therefore, we fulfilled the contract.Appersrule wrote:This switch makes sense, good change. NOT!!! I'm not necessarily happy to be playing Campbell, but I am happy that an away game has turned into a home game...bright side. Of course, I'm just a "Rah Rah" fan, so...

I thought your point was that we should have gone to McNeese, rather than play Campbell at home. Didn't you say...Appersrule wrote:People are not getting my point. To you second point, if Western and Chattanooga already have games scheduled when we have openings, then that would be tough. At this point, you have to work with what you're given...I suspect that's what they did.Appersrule wrote:We should have gone to McNeese and fulfilled that contract.

Re: McNeese series cancelled, Campbell added to 2014
I would rather go to McNeese than host Campbell, yes. However I was most upset you couldn't find someone better than Campbell. This adds a second game to the schedule and one at home that will be a 45 point spread. This is not helping shut up the anti-FBSers who are screaming that this schedule isnt better than the one in the Southern.

Re: McNeese series cancelled, Campbell added to 2014
According to my conversation with an athletic official last night at the Triad stop, there was a clause in our contract with McNeese that allowed an "out" for any team moving up to FBS. That "out" stated that the game would not have to be bought out, but just cancelled.

Re: McNeese series cancelled, Campbell added to 2014
FBS programs should not play road games at FCS programs, IMO. Wish it was a better team but an FCS home game is better than an FCS road game.
Michigan is on the schedule, plus there are 8 SBC games to schedule around along with any other options they are looking at for OOC. If the final schedule turns out to be 8 SBC games, Michigan, 2 MAC/CUSA/AAC opponents and an FCS gimme game, not a big deal as far as who the FCS team is.
What if there was only one open date? I sure wouldn't pass on Campbell for a better FCS game at the expense of getting a decent FBS team in Boone. When the whole 2014 schedule is released, we will know a lot more.
