DJ logs onto the MMB about mid-way through the 3rd quarter and navigates to the weekly attendance thread. He reads through it and decides who he wants to win the cookie this week. That number becomes the basis for the announced attendance. When he's not feeling generous, he just chooses a number close to 27301, the zip code for his beloved NE Guilford Rams.

Since when have you ever entered the stadium and those scanners work 110 percent? Besides it takes too long to dump all the info from the scanners together by the end of the 3rd quarter till when they announce the attendance.3rd wrote:i dont know about this whole guessing on students thing. They definitely scan every card. No idea how quickly the data can be quantified, but I can't imagine why it wouldn't be instantaneous...Appersrule wrote:Since when have you ever entered the stadium and those scanners work 110 percent? Re: Who becomes our Rival?
I suspect that most colleges use similar methods to report attendance figures; consequently, accuracy really becomes relative. During the 2008 season ASU reported that over 30,900 fans attended the Wofford Halloween game, the highest attendance figure on record. Now, this was before the end zone bleachers. If you add the capacity of the end zone bleachers, I estimate KBS could hold at least 33,000 fans. That's plenty of capacity to host ECU. Looking at last year's ECU football schedule I found the following:
Sep 15th Sat @ Southern Miss attendance - 34,140
Oct 4th Thu @ Central Florida - 32.181
Oct 20th Sat @ Alabama Birm - 12,403
Nov 17 Sat @ Tulane - 14,041
Side note: ASU game had the highest home game attendance for 2012 - 49,023
I don't understand why so many App State fans believe that ECU will not come to Boone. In my humble opinion it would be stupid not to.

If it's not instantaneous, it wouldn't be that hard to send the data to a central and get an accurate count from each scanner.. Maybe 2 minutes per scanner and they could send the data simultaneously..Gonzo wrote:They definitely scan every card. I work in the ticket business and can tell you that the scan is updated instantly in the ticket system just as it does for each sell. That said it doesn't matter how many are scanned since we report Sales instead of Turnstile. Notice DJ always says "X number of people "paid" to see it today." This is standard practice for most venues today.Appersrule wrote:Since when have you ever entered the stadium and those scanners work 110 percent? The data would be readily available, it's not exactly cutting edge technology to get a reasonably accurate count. Where do you get this stuff? The students need tickets to get in the gate just like everybody else.

Re: Who becomes our Rival?
Well seeing as they wont let me in until It scans right i would say they work great. They have to because ASU has a no re-admittance policy, so those scanners have to pick up each ticket, so if one were to leave and try and come back in their ticket would not scan.Appersrule wrote:Since when have you ever entered the stadium and those scanners work 110 percent? Re: Who becomes our Rival?
Using those attendance numbers would be irrelevant in my opinion. They had to go to those schools since they were conference games. And yes, those numbers are horrible and those schools should be embarrassed to have those numbers, especially for a FBS program.appgrunt71 wrote:I suspect that most colleges use similar methods to report attendance figures; consequently, accuracy really becomes relative. Look at these numbers instead.
9/08 @ South Carolina 77,006
9/22 @ UNC 59,500
Those are the non-conference games they played on the road last year. Those numbers would be more pertinent to the discussion.

ECU - '14 A, '15 H
Marshall - '16 E, '17 A
MTSU - '14 H, '15 E, '16 H, '17 A

It only needs to work 100% for exact numbers. My assumption is that there is a margin of error used in the calculations, which seems reasonable.Appersrule wrote:Since when have you ever entered the stadium and those scanners work 110 percent? I've been through many times when my bar code was not scanned nor the people in front of me.

We were talking about students and your (or someone's) claim that the student numbers were just guesses. They scan every single student's ID. If anything the student totals should be the most accurate of all.

Re: Who becomes our Rival?
I don't doubt that happens occasionally, but I don't think it's widespread--I've had to stand there while they scan it several times. It's completely reasonable and expected that they will not capture 100% of the tickets, so I'm sure they have a margin of error rate in place.JCline0429 wrote:Gonzo wrote:They definitely scan every card. I have to agree with you for a slightly different reason however.appgrunt71 wrote:I suspect that most colleges use similar methods to report attendance figures; consequently, accuracy really becomes relative. I don't understand why so many App State fans believe that ECU will not come to Boone. In my humble opinion it would be stupid not to.
I think what others have missed about scheduling is that we can turn one of our seemingly disadvantages to an advantage...the mountains. I can tell you that ECU is Hot as crap for some of those first games, and many of them would love to take a shorter trip to the mountains instead of driving to some of these other places that they see year after year. I think the same holds true for many of the ACC teams, etc.
Also just like APP fans that go to away games, people love the short distances to drive and the mountains are just a plus, especially for ppl that dont get up here much. It's really a built in reason for a vacation.
I understand it's a money issue, but many of these schools pay big money to play someone at home so taking a little hit on a road trip, to a fan vacation area is just a wash or positive to them.
I look at it this way, I wouldn't mind who we scheduled if it was at the beach (given the right weather).

Re: Who becomes our Rival?
i doubt we can afford to host ECU in the near term, whether the ticket counters work or not. once we expand the stadium so that we can sell more tickets we can afford to bring in bigger name schools. until then, we play the road vs bigger name OOC opponents. just my opinion.
