Presley and Jamal following in a huge shadow.
Presley and Jamal following in a huge shadow.
OK, I just have a quick question, First let me say that I am a big fan of Jamal Jackson and the good things he has done for App State. But I hear so much negative talk about him and even more negative talk about Presley whenever QB's come up at App State. With Jamal I hear that his passing game is terrible past 20 yards out and I hear Presley was just a glorified running back. Just a few peoples opinions but I would like to know more from various fans. I understand Presley had some big choking points but he also had his moments in the sun and Jackson has also made some big plays when necessary but also made some mistakes along the way. I guess I am just searching for new opinions on these two players. And as I said in the title they were expected to fill in for a player that practically re-wrote the record books at App State. I always try and be positive about all App State players and I am just searching for some new viewpoints and real examinations of these two QB's because I will admit I have heard some stupid opinions by fans who believed Jamal has been playing since 2007 but I digress.
Re: Presley and Jamal following in a huge shadow.
Both Presley and Jackson biggest positives is they are really good guys, always seem to do the right thing, and were/are great leaders both on and off the field. As far as on the field play, dont know how anyone can have complaints about either player, both have been up for national player of the year, and both have been first team all SC. I guess since they have not won a national chamionship, people blame them, and say they have underachived, but thats bs, we lost playoff games becouse of other postions underachieving, and to a certain extent, coaching the last 4 years. If our next qb after Jackson, plays as well, Ill be very happy.

Re: Presley and Jamal following in a huge shadow.
You must hang out with very casual "fans" if that's what they think. Presley didn't lack anything in character, that's for sure. He switched to defense after being benched and still made plays. His first start back at defensive back he recorded 6 solo tackles and a forced fumble. He obviously wasn't a true passer, but his mid-short game was pretty accurate.
The jury is still out on Jamal, although his arm strength and accuracy aren't a question for me. The key for him is the offensive line, which has been coalescing steadily under Coach Ledford. Our recievers (Peacock, Washington, Price, Jones , etc we're stacked) are widely regarded as some of the best in the nation, so some of that credit has to go to the QB.
At first your post made me want to post the angry, confused Jackie Chan meme because it was pretty negative, but I decided to be constructive.
Armanti was a one-of-a-kind. On that we can agree.

Let me be clear in that these are the kinds of posts that I wanted to see. I like both of these players and was looking for deeper insight beyond as stated above the "casual" fan. I knew I was not alone in my liking of these two.

Moehler pretty much hits the nail on the head. Anyone that has issue with the play of these two is not being fair to either. Presley was bounced from position to position yet always did what was asked of him...a true team player that led by example. JJ has not had the best offensive line the last 2 years and coaching/play calling has been questionable at times. Both have been GREAT ambassadors for the university. Unfortunate that every player and App team has been judged against RW and AE and the 3 Championship teams.moehler wrote:Both Presley and Jackson biggest positives is they are really good guys, always seem to do the right thing, and were/are great leaders both on and off the field. JJ is going to have a fantastic year, assuming he's fully recovered.
I'm glad we are moving FBS as quickly as possible but wish he was gonna get to prove how good he is by competing post season....

Presley is remembered most in my mind for throwing and "catching" a TD on the same play for the go ahead score against Chattanooga. At one point on that play, he ran in between the O and D lines. I mean, who does that?

Re: Presley and Jamal following in a huge shadow.
Presley is among my all time favorite App players. No he didn't win a national championship, but that was not 100% his fault. As others have said, the coaching and other positions struggled at times. His on the field performance was as good as most teams could expect. If he hadn't followed AE and RW, I bet most fans would be putting him among the best QBs at App.
Above all of that, how many other 1st Team All Conference QBs, Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, and strong candidate for national player of the year would take a benching with such class and willingly offer to help the defensive side of the ball? The answer is not many. He put his ego aside and knew it was best for the team at that point -- not many people with his accolades would have done that.

Re: Presley and Jamal following in a huge shadow.
Your friend has to keep in mind that both of these guys had to deal with The Committee during their time at QB, and our lack of recruiting at O-Line. Just look at how much Jamal's numbers improved in year 1 PC (Post Committee). If he can improve his decision making he should have a huge year in 2013. As for DeAndre, how could anyone not respect what he did for the team? Satterfield should start an annual teammate of the year award and name it after him.
Both of these guys are great leaders.

I don't hear very much negative about either player, I think both are greatly admired by most fans.
