Re: Louisiana at APP Game Day Thread
2000 was a tough year no doubt. New coaching staff and 3rd in 3 years. I do blame a lot of our performance this year on the transition and new staff with new scheme's etc. I agree the receiving corps had an impact on Zach, but how do we go from one of the highest regarded QBs in the G5 if not the nation to his subpar performance this season. I see this as an issue with our OC/QB coach and overall play calling and not Zach. We've all seen his talent.
We all agree our Offensive performance was unacceptable to the App State norm. I truly believe we have more talent across the board than all other Sunbelt teams but did not play disciplined this year. I will accept this year as a transition and learning year for a new coaching staff but think the OC decision needs to be evaluated and watch closely in 2021.

Does anyone have breakdown on yards per half and scoring per half. I have to think 2nd half production is lagging way behind first for the year but I'm only guessing. I would also guess that 2nd half for opponents may be better than first for them. Again just a guess, would love to know for sure.

Well, don't know about the 1st half v. 2nd half stats on the season, but in our last two losses we led at the half.

What new schemes? It was bragged about all offseason that nothing was going to change offensive and defensively. Especially offensively.aussie86 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 9:40 am2000 was a tough year no doubt. New coaching staff and 3rd in 3 years. Re: Louisiana at APP Game Day Thread
So all of those FGs he's made to make sure games don't come down to the final kick don't count? Weird how more than a third of his points are on FGs but "it was the high powered offenses."
Yes I trusted Staton to make that FG. But let's not act like we win the game with the FG. That just brings us to OT. And should have never come down to that FG. All three losses lie solely on the coaching shoulders -- mainly the offensive side.
They preached it wasn't going to change. It clearly changed.

I could not agree more PhillyApp. He is choke city who has benefitted from good offenses and a long kicking career at App.PhillyApp wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 9:17 amIf you were confident in that last kick going through the uprights, you may have been the only App Fan in the nation feeling that way.... Re: Louisiana at APP Game Day Thread
After a night of sleeping on it and realizing I didn’t wake up from a terrible nightmare.
3 huge momentum changers
1) whatever the hell that penalty was on our first punt fumble recovery in the end zone
2) whatever the hell decision it was near the end of the first half to only kick it to the 30 yard line and allow for a good return and good field position to get that field goal before half
3) 4th down sack taken by Zac near/in the red zone.
That said, this game wouldn’t have been as close had the long snapper even had a decent day, and it’s hard to win the day when you have a 3-0 turnover margin.
While it’s great to be a mountaineer, I can’t say I very much enjoyed the drive home yesterday soaked and cold after whatever that was. Fundamentally sloppy, that’s about all there is to it.

I agree the playcalling was extremely pedestrian and predictable all night, but Louisiana didn’t even really try passing the ball either. This makes me think neither team thought they could pass the ball in that weather.

I could not agree more. In fact when Clark was announced, I called it a lazy hire by an AD who was trying to get out. Clark may end up being a great coach. I really hope for that. But I will always believe we had accomplished too much as a program to just give the head coaching job to a guy who just happened to be in town.js290 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 9:24 amNot a single game, win or loss, this season has made me feel like the head coaching hire was the right one.....the team is unorganized, undisciplined, lacks offensive creativity, horrible clock management....just gets more exposed when we have played teams with winning records.....it is very concerning in the long view. Need to stop with all the excuses, it is getting old.

Another one of the few positive posts Thanks, 93.APP93 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 6:43 amLast year many complained about quality of opponents in the conference. Looking at the schedule when it is released and penciling in wins and losses, while fun as a fan, is a fools game.
All of these programs have good players, coaches and facilities. They all study film, practice hard and prepare for each game.
They then go out on Saturday and compete hard and try and win. There is nothing guaranteed in sports.

Re: Louisiana at APP Game Day Thread
I'm disappointed too, especially that we could not win at least one of the games against what are now three ranked opponents. But we still have a lot to play for by beating GS (always important to me) and maybe getting in a bowl with a decent opponent. The fact that the Sunbelt is at its highest level ever this year may even result in the bowl game being perceived as a little more significant. Here's to beating GS, finishing regular season 8-3, and beating a quality team in a bowl game. P.S. We should back off a little on comments about hoping for bad weather as if it gives us an inherent advantage. In recent years, we seem to be affected by it about as much as opponents.

Zac as I’ve said before is not a foul weather QB. And we have an exciting playbook....we just don’t know where we put it.

Finally a positive post from someone who makes sense. Maybe what we need is not a new QB, kicker, offensive coordinator, head coach, et. al, but a more appreciative fan base.
However that doesn’t mean you can’t criticize players and coaches for not doing their jobs. Some people take it too far but this whole “say something bad about the team and you’re unappreciative and spoiled” is just lazy.

When Hannon cheap shotted the guy in front of everyone and essentially ended the drive , was he pulled? For atleast one play ? If not that speaks loudly to the coaching situation.

First, some of what’s said above is harsh however Most of what is said I’d agree with. I think Clark’s hire solved some problems like the threat of losing a coach after 1-2 years AND money( I’m confident, under the circumstances , Clark came cheap!) Once hired, It did not take long to miss on a decision when he failed to designate a full time special teams coach. Special teams have cost us all year from jumping off-sides on 4th down resulting in a first down and eventual touchdown vs. Marshall, to last nites’ missed field goal(s) and pooch kick-off late first half. The Peterson hire looks worse and worse each game. If something is wrong with Zac then it needs to be attended too. We should make some adjustments as the game progresses the other teams do! Leading both Coastal and La. at half-time they both made adjustments that stopped us dead. Did we? NO we kept running on first down running on second down and then when it was a national emergency we MIGHT throw it. Finally, let’s quit with the excuses- everybody has had to deal with COVID and both teams played under the same weather conditions

Re: Louisiana at APP Game Day Thread
One observation...The quarterback from Louisiana was the first quarterback "Meech" could not track down. The kid reminded me of Armanti on his escapability. That being said. The team looks flat and uninspired.
On a positive note...The stadium looks great. First game I have been able to attend last night. Weather was bad. My umbrella did not make it to the end. Wind was all over the place from different directions. If we had to lose a game....last nights was the one to lose. Hopefully we get one more game. For some reason last nights loss did not bother me too much. I hope our coaches find something during spring practices because we looked lost last night.
