Stadium renovation to start soon?
According to csnbbs, Appalachian State was contacted about hosting the 2014-2015 outdoor track and field championships, which would have taken place at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Appalachian State either declined the championships or lost them to UofL, with many inclined to believe that Appalachian declined the championships. Does this mean our athletic department and university leaders are planning on starting KBS renovations (i.e. removing the track) sooner rather than later?

It would seem so. We all expected the additions to start sometime between the 2013 and 2014 seasons. But big surprise, no communication from the top of the Mountain to the fan base....

You remember the definition of insanity Gonz. Apply that to App admin. Performing the same task (waiting for information, ANY information) over and over and expecting different results.Gonzo wrote:It would seem so. But I will inject snark into any sentence I write regarding the most secretive administration imaginable.

And I would expect nothing less from you.
So the OP is SPECULATING that we turned down the championships and we're automatically going to acuse the admin of not letting us know that stadium expansion will be starting? Does there always have to be so much drama? I think it's more realistic that we were beat out by another venue for whatever reason.

Re: Stadium renovation to start soon?
It's definitely speculation, but we haven't heard a time frame either way. They put one rendering on the front of the field house and included the same thing on a few bits of literature on the Yosef Tour and that's it.goapps93 wrote:So the OP is SPECULATING that we turned down the championships and we're automatically going to acuse the admin of not letting us know that stadium expansion will be starting? Same ol' cricket noise coming from the Mountain top, regardless of whether or not losing the event to ULL indicates a pseudo timeframe for the additions to start.

App's admin doesn't have the best track record when it comes to releasing information. And before you get all upset I have many, I repeat, many friends and even family members in admin. I joke with them all the time about the way they handle things. No malice or drama here. Simply stating a fact.

Is this still the official mockup? I like it alright....I'd much rather have the field lowered, and extend seating down over the track. And while the proposed new Owens facility is nice, I'd just as soon focus on more permanent seating.

Anyone expecting a stadium renovation anytime soon better come with a check in hand.
We just spent $60M three years ago and added 44 more scholarships. I'd rather wait 5 years and expand the right way once more money is raised than piece meal it.

Re: Stadium renovation to start soon?
Agreed. I get as hungry as anyone to see new additions or cool trinkets in the stadium every year, and we've been as lucky as anyone in that regard. But I'm willing to give up a few frills to make the move the right way. I'm also not worried about Southern starting their renovations ahead of us. We've been light years ahead for a few years so if they're doing a little something I'll live.Saint3333 wrote:Anyone expecting a stadium renovation anytime soon better come with a check in hand.

Two good, common sense posts in a row. We're in no financial position to start a major stadium expansion. Too many other fish to fry first.
And for those on the edge of their seats--forgedaboud the infamous mock up. It was a quick and dirty graphic for homecoming decoration and hasn't seen, or been seen by, an architect. It's Photoshop 101 stuff strictly to send a message that bigger things are down the road.

I don't like it anyway. That third deck on the east side looks like shite.asu66 wrote:Two good, common sense posts in a row. We're in no financial position to start a major stadium expansion. Too many other fish to fry first.

Saint, I've got a $20 that says that we will at the very least relocate the track before the 2014 season.

Re: Stadium renovation to start soon?
I wonder if they would just do it in phases?
Last I saw, the Campaign for Appalachian had raised about $155M of the $200M goal. Of that, $50M would go to athletics, $25M for scholarships and $25M for facilities. Not sure how it would be allocated but you'd have to think football would get a chunk which could at least get renovations started.
As a point of reference, Texas State's expansion to remove the track and get to 30K capacity cost $33M.

So the bet is our track team runs somewhere other than KBS for the 2014 season?Gonzo wrote:Saint, I've got a $20 that says that we will at the very least relocate the track before the 2014 season.
If so, deal, you win I pay you $20, I win you donate $20 to the facility enhancement campaign.

Start of the 2014 football season being the time frame. I'm not quite sure when T&F starts.

Re: Stadium renovation to start soon?
I agree it would be wise to take our time to do it right this time instead of adding bits and pieces that dont mesh, but it would be nice to have a clearly defined plan of what the stadium will look like once finished. Even if it takes several phases to get to a finished product we need to determine what we want KBS to look like. Fundraising would be much eaiser if we gave people a clear vision of the future.Saint3333 wrote:Anyone expecting a stadium renovation anytime soon better come with a check in hand.
