Re: Officer down - Boone
Can confirm both police officers have passed away. The suspect has also killed himself. Can also confirm the police were doing a welfare check after the suspect killed his parents and they didn't show up to work or answer calls. Suspect fired shots at the initial responding officers doing the welfare check. Somehow one made it out and was able to be retrieved and sent to Johnson City where he eventually passed. The other was stuck inside the house. It's still unknown if the other passed immediately or had to suffer inside the house. Sad, sad situation.

Re: Officer down - Boone
Seems, unfortunately, that what most assumed is true. Kid killed his parents and both deputies, guess now it is a just the detail that doesn't matter: if he killed himself or police did. Very sad all around.

There was a third officer shot, but he was wearing a ballistic helmet that saved his life. He was able to pull out one of the injured officers who was airlifted out eventually.

Sage advice from Watauga leadership...
Watauga County Schools Superintendent Scott Elliott sent out an email asking for people to be respectful and supportive of the officers involved and their families.
"The situation is still unfolding and I am sure we will all learn more in the hours, days and weeks ahead," Elliott stated. "One way we can be supportive of those involved is for us to be respectful and discrete with the information we share with others (including on social media). As always happens in crisis situations, a lot of misinformation can be spread very quickly. Please respect our law enforcement and emergency services professionals by only sharing official information shared through official sources."

A Boone officer was shot at and hit -- the helmet saved his life. I hadn't heard of the ASU cop being shot at as well. Such a sad situation.appstate77 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 3:39 pmAccording to Charlotte Observer, an App State Officer was shot at and missed during the attempted rescue of the fallen officers.

I’m loving what I’m seeing. I hope we all contribute something. Even though $50k+ Per family is a generous start these families will need so much more. Share the go fund me with everyone you know if you are comfortable.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 12:07 pmThank you so much for posting this. I hope app nation rallies around these families. Just to clarify, the son was in his early 30's and was not a "kid". This was planned and there were early warnings.

Why was an APP security officer at the scene? Was the murdered couple employed by the University?

If I remember correctly I believe it's called "Mutual Aid" to the WCSO from App State Police Department. I could be wrong about that though.

Ditto to your last two sentences AV!AppinVA wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 9:03 pmI don’t know what they had in the Journal, but the story I saw in the Observer said “about six miles,” which answers a question I had, and probably alleviates concerns parents may have (with my daughter at VCU, no telling what goes on six blocks from campus, much less six miles). It was also pretty far down in the story, which tells me they weren’t using it to sensationalize anything. Now, change that “about” to “just” and put it in the leed, then there is cause to be ticked.Rekdiver wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 8:25 pmI’m sure every crime they report in Winston they say is 1 mile from Wake’s campus...right?asu66 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 7:43 pmNot a good sign but those teams are top-notch at providing comfort and support to grief-stricken individuals, families and organizations.
Someone 'splain to me why the WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL found it necessary to mention that the home under heavy siege by law enforcement is just six miles from the ASU campus? So what, Mr. Editor? Your point????
But that said, it’s the least thing to be concerned about at the moment. Sad. Sad, all around.
