Game week in Boca

Unread post by Stonewall » Sun Dec 12, 2021 11:34 pm

A lot of distractions for WKU but I look for them to be on a mission Saturday. I think our defense will make some plays. We need to show a lot more on offense to have a chance. Control the line of scrimmage and we win.

Wonder if App (like we did under Jerry Moore) will make a donation for relief in Kentucky when we played LSU shortly after one of the hurricanes had reeked havoc in Louisiana? I don't mean this goFundme thing.

The university is taking donations for supplies at all other sporting events through the week.

Run the ball, keep that QB off the field, and win TOP by at least 5 minutes with a goal of 10.

Our secondary is going to be tested like no other game, they get rid of the ball so quickly it's difficult to get pressure.

BigC and his cohort on the BnG podcast started a GoFundMe with a goal of $3,333. It’s currently up around 14k.

BigC's cohort is Alex Johnson. Kudos and credit to both of those guys.

WKU is scary good throwing the ball. In their five losses this year the time of possession was 10 to 20 minutes different in each game by the winning team, but they were able to keep the final score within one score (except Mich State). They lost to Army 38 to 35, Indiana 33-31, Michigan State 48-31, UTSA 52-46, and Championship game against UTSA 49-41. They put 477 yards on Army, 458 yards on Indiana, 560 yards on Michigan State, and 670 yards and 568 yards in each game against UTSA. In all of their losses they averaged 478 yards per game passing and that was a decent schedule. If we don't score when we have the opportunity, or if we make turnovers, it could be a freak show how quickly it could get out of hand.

They also beat Marshall 53-21. The same team that we needed a 4th quarter comeback against to survive by 1 point.

Marshall jumped on them early. Wells went out with an injury and the offense stalled. A lot of short offensive possessions for Marshall which put their defense on the field for way too long and they wore down.

I believe our donation to Louisiana was in the neighborhood of $50K.

I wasn’t worried about this game much until I realized Corey Sutton won’t be playing. Not only is he our best receiver, but he also commands a lot of attention from the defense. WKU doesn’t look to have a very strong defense, but if we don’t have another receiver step up, it could allow them to stack the box and stall our offense. As mentioned above, the offense can’t afford to stall at all this game.

Hennigan, Virgil, Williams, Wells, Horn, etc..
We should be OK.
Throw to tight end and backs.

Or just pound the rock. The best way to keep them from scoring is to keep them off the field.

This will be a tough game. I have confidence in our defense as long as they aren't on the field half the game. Defense will have to be in the QB'S face start to finish. He gets time to pass and it will be a high scoring game for them. May be anyhow. Our offense worries me the most with stalled drives and missing opportunities. If run game works we win by a TD. We struggle to run the ball and control the clock we will come up short for the first time in a bowl game. Go App!

Yeah, they ran the table on ole' C-USA. Looks like a case of tallest pygmy in the tribe to me. I see the dirty 'nooga held them to 13. I'll bet on Meech in his hometown for this one.

How do you compare a game where Wells plays 1.5 qtrs against WKU vs a full game against App?

I feel good about this game...we tend to bounce back after a loss...and our bowl record speaks for itself. We've had some time to heal up any nagging injuries as well as getting a solid week of practice in this week. Yes Zappe can throw the ball really well and has a couple nice receivers. Our defense I really believe will be up to the task and our offense will find ways to put points on the board. This is a big game. Chance at 11 wins
