Cancel the Citadel game for 2022!!??!!
Looks like JMU is looking for a heavy FBS schedule for the 2022 schedule. Is there a possibility we could get them to replace Citadel, of course still played in Boone?

Also, if the Marshall game becomes a conference matchup, that creates an opening for a non-conference game. We don’t need to add to the pile.

Stick with the 2022 schedule. It is one of our toughest ever.

The toughest. With the most ??? I can remember. We’ll know a lot about where we’re at 6 games in . I’m excited but skeptical.Appstate88 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 8:49 pmStick with the 2022 schedule. It is one of our toughest ever.

Seeing this article on WHSV and remembering someone mentioning scheduling news is what made me start the thread. To see if anyone with knowledge would say if this was being planned by DG.HighlandsApp wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 10:02 pmWhat happened to the exciting scheduling news that DG mentioned weeks ago?

JMU or The Citadel I feel the result is the same. I'm not willing to accept that a transitioning JMU team would come to Boone and win. Even with the uncertainty of next year's team.Appstate88 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 8:49 pmStick with the 2022 schedule. It is one of our toughest ever.
I do agree it's a tough slate though.

Regardless, we may need that game specifically with The Citadel to rest some players, spread some playing time etc. Alabama plays Austin Peay on Nov. 19th next year and played New Mexico State on Nov. 13th this season. (and Western Carolina in the same slot in 2019). There's a reason they stick a cupcake in every year between the heart of the schedule and the stretch run./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 10:49 pmJMU or The Citadel I feel the result is the same. After an emotionally charged opener and two tough road tests, we need that Citadel game to stay status quo. Especially considering, that the conference opener is the following week and a weeknight game is likely in Week 5/6/7. Even if they had a low percentage to win, there's no reason to make Week 4 any harder.

Re: Cancel the Citadel game for 2022!!??!!
It’s possible but it is also possible that the SBC sends us to Harrisburg to play them. Part of the transition requires that they play 5 home games against FBS opponents. So if I am looking at this through a long term lense at which DG is, if these newbs are SBC in 2022, then the Marsha game is moved to a later date and it is Boone. My reasoning is that you are already playing Coastal and Southern on the road this year. Playing Marsha on the road puts three of your biggest division games (for attendance) on the same side of the draw. So every other year, you have those three in a season ticket package. Which means then on opposite years, you have ODU, JMU, and Georgia St./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 7:50 pmLooks like JMU is looking for a heavy FBS schedule for the 2022 schedule. Whether it counts as a OOC game or not is a different story.

Re: Cancel the Citadel game for 2022!!??!!
Random Thoughts:
I would like to see Marshall and Georgia Southern alternate years at home. I like Georgia Southern on Thanksgiving and rivalry weekend.
If I were the SUNBELT...I would try to get all of the Georgia State games on dates when Georgia plays away games. Someone is going to say "No one in Atlanta cares about Georgia St" I think the SunBelt could build Georgia St. to be a well thought of program.
I hope we continue to have 6 home games. I hope we limit it to one weeknight.
JMU, Marshall, ODU and Southern Miss are going to get better fast with ESPN exposure. (Unfortunately...Probably UNCC as well).
I am on the fence about 3 game packages but I think we should explore it...with Parking. Make the price a little higher but I think people would pay up for Parking on the 3 game package and they should have to join Yosef. I would price it higher than Season Tickets but lower than single tickets.
We need a family section and sell an immediate family group ticket. Basically buy 3 tickets and you get the rest of your immediate family in for free. (I would absolutely make this available for Basketball games) If it is going to be a sellout you could limit this type of ticket for that game. For Football games I would park these folks in one lot together and bus to game. Maybe old Watauga Highschool. Kids would enjoy the bus ride. It is tough for a family of 6 to afford six tickets. If you add a hot dog and drink, families will jump on this. Make it a packet.

It wasn’t that many years ago, maybe 10, that I went to see us versus The Citadel and they beat the stuffing out of us. Beat us the year r before, too. And the year after was close. Three years in a row - they made it tough on us. Now we have moved ahead of them but I’d still like to see us play them.

Re: Cancel the Citadel game for 2022!!??!!
According to the Sun Belt board rumors anyway, the 4 newbies will be full Belt members next year (including JMU) and the NCAA is letting JMU skip straight to transition year 2 for scheduling purposes at least due to the number of "super seniors" they will have. So there really isn't need to cancel Citedal for the purposes of having too many FCS teams on the schedule. And Marshall will be a conference game so we are going to need another OOC game anyway, we certainly wouldn't want to be two games short at this late date.

Marshall also needs an OOC game -- assuming rumors are true. Don't be surprised to see us play them twice. One as OOC, the other as a conference game.

It's obviously not optimal for either program, but there aren't many (if any) that have an opening for next season that will align perfectly.BUTCH1991 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 9:20 pmI would hope notAppStateNews wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 7:15 pmMarshall also needs an OOC game -- assuming rumors are true. Good news if that's what happens (not saying it's definitely going to happen, but don't be surprised if it does) is it would certainly bring in a good gate for both games.
