The problem is that if you don't protect the image from EVERYONE that attempts to use it then you are estopped from protecting it against those that you want to stop using it. In other words, you can't pick and choose who you allow to use it by not enforcing your rights because if you don't enforce you rights you lose the ability and you no longer have a brand that can be protected.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 2:07 pmI do get the whole "intellectual property" thing, but I just find it hard to see any damage being done by local high schools copying our logo. Frankly, it's a pretty atypical logo so choosing to copy it is a pretty high compliment. Now, if a college football program or a business were to copy it, I would feel differently. I do think it's only reasonable that these programs should go through the process of requesting the usage and getting permission but seems like that could be handled amicably if it's the case.

This. And it is possible for App to grant one off permissions for an entity to infringe. So if a school asks to use the block A for a helmet decal, we can allow it for that purpose while stifling further use.t4pizza wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 8:54 amThe problem is that if you don't protect the image from EVERYONE that attempts to use it then you are estopped from protecting it against those that you want to stop using it. When I lived in Brevard which is an adjoining county with Haywood (Canton/Tuscola HS) and I would wear my Yosef hat or t-shirt out I would periodically have people say "I went to Tuscola too".
They have the identical logo merch. Everything is identical; colors etc.

HighlandsApp, one minor correction. Folks from Canton normally attend Pisgah High. Folks from Waynesville, Lake Junaluska and Maggie Valley normally attend Tuscola High. The two are bitter rivals.HighlandsApp wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 9:05 amWhen I lived in Brevard which is an adjoining county with Haywood (Canton/Tuscola HS) and I would wear my Yosef hat or t-shirt out I would periodically have people say "I went to Tuscola too".

Yes, my bad. My kids all played soccer and would regularly play Tuscola and periodically Pisgah I would always confuse the two.AppGrad78 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 12:58 pmHighlandsApp, one minor correction. I think that the soccer field and stadium at Pisgah is at the old high school which is now a middle school? Tuscola stadium is also at middle school isn't it?
The old building by the Pisgah Stadium is beautiful.

Re: App State Logo Story
As long as I lived in WNC, Tuscola always used a yellow variant of the Tennessee logo. The only other schools I know who used variants of the App State logo was Andrews who used a combo of the App "A" and the UK Wildcat, and MItchell who used a purple variant of the old Yosef.
