I remember the Smithereens played Legends during a Final Four game between UNLV and Duke (either 90 or 91), needless to say there were not nearly as many people in attendance as there should have been. At the time they were a fairly popular college band and the members were shocked that so few showed. It was a good show for those that attended.
There was a small tv with the game on and half the crowd were huddled around it, prompting the lead singer to complain on stage about people being more interested in a sport than their show.

You’re like that cowboy who is working his second rodeo and can walk around and tell everyone that this is not his first rodeo.T-Dog wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 10:54 amHere's how this thread will go.
I'll say that I always never liked him. Because that's true.
Others will come in and say this is a trashy move, a discrase to App, bring up September 2019, and should return his App degree, etc.
94 and other insiders will talk about how he still has his App suite and goes a lot for his alma mater that no one knows about or wants to acknowledge.
Then it's a back and forth for like 4 pages between WV, 94, spacemonkey or some of the other usual suspects about that.
NewApp will then ask a random question that could be answered with a Google search and someone will eventually take the bait.
Out of the blue, another poster will then bring up "real country music" from back in the day and maybe post a YouTube video of such. Others will follow talking about other past country music acts. Maybe Ken Burns's documentary will be brought up at some point.

Talk about self righteous and tone deaf. There’s a pretty good chance most of the crowd that was attending his show Saturday aren’t Carolina fans and don’t give a flying rats hind quarters about his fandom. Secondly he’s not as important as he thinks he is. I like that he compares his shows to the final four. I assure you they are not. Lastly. Did he really quote the late Carolina color guy Woody Durham to justify his decision?ShagNC wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 2:15 pmFrom Reddit:

To the Church Choir,
This Saturday, my family and I are going to stand together to cheer on the Tar Heels as the team has made it to the Final Four.
As a lifelong Carolina basketball fan, I've watched Carolina and Duke battle over the years but to have them matchup in the Final Four for the first time in the history of the NCAA Tournament is any sports enthusiast's dream.
This is also the most selfish thing I've ever asked the Choir to do: to give up your Saturday night plans with us so that I can have this moment with my family and sports community. However, it's that same type of passion felt by the people who fill the seats at our concerts that makes us want to be part of a crowd at a game of this significance.
Woody Durham always said, "Go where you go and do what you do," thanks for letting me go here and be with the Tar Heels."

The good news , as I see it ,is that he has not been identified as" a Tar Heel loving App State graduate", or any other connection with us. That would be an embarrassment .

Bottom line. He has no sense of commitment. He just told his fans to go screw off. Doesn't matter who he is rooting for he is just not an honorable man. The really sad thing is when I saw this on Facebook today about 65%+ were defending him. He has become the king of "it's all about me". Hope he wears his blue to APP.

This will go over as well as Lauryn Hill coming on stage like 4 hours late because of artistic feelings or something or other, she got lit up like the 4th of July by ticket holders, I'm sure he will too.
Glad he's not waving black and gold colors anymore.

This is more embarrassing to App and this board than him canceling his concert to see the team he pulls for. The first time he was mentioned on this board was august 2012. Your obsession with this guy is now going on 10 years. He owns more real-estate in your minds than Yosef, Boone, and everything to do with AppState. I wish y'all were this passionate about things things that actually matter to App.

Regardless of his affiliation with App, or lack thereof, this is a complete douche move and he deserves whatever scorn comes his way.

Interesting, because I never said he didn't deserve every ounce of scorn he is getting. My critique is about how obsessed this board is with this guy. It's pathetic. I think you read my post wrong. I'm not saying his incident of skipping a concert is embarrassing to App. No one associates him with App outside of the obsession on this board I'm saying there being 107 threads over 10 years shown in that link to be the topic of embarrassment.appst89 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 10:23 amCan’t say that I agree with even one word of this.appdaze wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 7:55 amsearch.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&sr=topics&key ... 2&start=50

Well see if he was still the die-hard App fan he used to be, he wouldn't have had this conflict of interest.

I meant to say that I disagree completely with your premise. I don’t see how it is embarrassing at all for the board to discuss a high profile App grad, or former student.
The other comment was just my personal belief that he deserves whatever he gets for canceling this show.

Ahh ok I gotcha. I don't see an issue with people discussing an app alum either. I just this it's ridiculous how obsessed some of the posters are here with this guy. But we can agree to disagree there. Nothing wrong with that.appst89 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 10:57 amappdaze wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 10:31 amInteresting, because I never said he didn't deserve every ounce of scorn he is getting. So, from now on, should anyone who buys a ticket to one of his shows be able to cancel and receive a full refund? I think he set that precedent.

Aside from that, was this contingency written into contract between Church/Promoter/Venue. This could get sticky for him legally.
