Don't know what insight Firemoose has but the rumor making the rounds is the surgery on his knee didn't go quite as well as planned. Could miss the season.Black Saturday wrote:Let all APPs know? What's up?

The thousandth reason to not get your hopes up about BCS transfers. I think he will eventually contribute, but with the WR corps App has for the foreseeable future not even the fastest Oregon Duck is guaranteed to see the field.

Re: Tacoi Sumler
Below is a quote from a Rivals article from the first day in shells. I asked Brian if I could quote this so you can see he is on the field and practicing, 4 days ago at least.
Add to the mix some solid plays from freshman Dante Jones, sophomore Tacoi Sumler and at times redshirt freshman Chris Starks, and there's a lot to be excited about.

I certainly hope that is the case and what I heard is not.firemoose wrote:Below is a quote from a Rivals article from the first day in shells. I asked Brian if I could quote this so you can see he is on the field and practicing, 4 days ago at least.

I would love to see Sumler and Washington back returning kickoffs together. Can't kick away from both of them.

Re: Tacoi Sumler
I spoke to some “people” yesterday while I was on my trip and was told that Tacoi is practicing and making plays. There was only one comment about him and I’ll get to that in a second. The reason he’s not mentioned in most practice reports is that, as it was said to me, there are 110 players on the roster and it would take a book to write about each of them. We already know how deep we are at WR and DB. We could pretty much pull the top 4 players at each position and replace them with 4 more that would start at most comparable schools to App. The reports from the first week of camp were mainly concentrating on the areas that were of the most concern coming in (LB, RB, #2 QB) and about how our fantastic freshmen class was doing and who was stepping up and might break onto the active roster as a true freshman and who would get the shirt.
The only comment that was made concerning Tacoi was that, being injured last year and spending the offseason recovering from surgery, he was able to study and learn the “paper part” of the playbook but, since he wasn’t able to be on the field, he hadn’t been able to take what he learned and apply it to the field. He’s doing that now and shaking off the rust from the long layoff. No matter what he would still be behind Price, Peacock, Washington, and Jones but, barring injury or setback on his knee, he is and will be on the field this season. The staff knows what they have with him so expect to see a few plays to take advantage of his talents.
EDIT: The practice report is up on appstatesports.com from today's scrimmage and Tacoi had 4 catches for 37 yards.

Re: Tacoi Sumler
Tacoi is the wild card on offense, there is no one on our team or in the SC that has his speed. If he is full speed starting the season I expect the coaching staff will get the ball in his hands probably 10-15 times a game receiving, running reverses, punt returns, and kick off returns. This kid is just too fast, he is the one kid who can consistently take a 5 yd slant pass and turn it into an 80 yd td.

Re: Tacoi Sumler
I'd like to see Sumler come into his own by next year and take that 5 yard slant 80 yards in the Big House, it will be like a bad Dexter Jackson nightmare.

Amen brother! Would love to see that even this year against UGAsixtoes9134 wrote:I'd like to see Sumler come into his own by next year and take that 5 yard slant 80 yards in the Big House, it will be like a bad Dexter Jackson nightmare.

Re: Tacoi Sumler
That would mean he get 15 to 20 % of the targets assuming 80 ish snaps a game.....If that is happening we are injured at wideout or getting our asses beat! MAYBE he averages 3-4 targets a game OTHER than the return game.....MAYBE!moehler wrote:Tacoi is the wild card on offense, there is no one on our team or in the SC that has his speed. Tony Washington is reliable at punt return and if our defense is giving up scores....same as above!
Go APPS!
Re: Tacoi Sumler
with our offense he is, hopefully, get 3-5 chances at kickoffs, probably a couple of reverse running plays, and will target him 3-5 times on receiving plays a game, with the creativity of SS and the offense, cant imagine they aren't going to try and get the ball in his hands, the question is, with all our talent on offense, and there is only so many plays in a game, how is SS going to keep everyone happy.

He gets 5 chances at kickoffs, our defense is giving up a significant number of points.

Re: Tacoi Sumler
If healthy I expect Sumler will be used on swing passes, screen passes, the occasional reverse and some quick hitches from the slot. With the number of good WR's the Apps have they will have fresh WR's available on every play.
Winning games will keep most of them happy.

He likely won't play for another two to three weeks, if then. Doctors are still trying to figure out what's causing a recurring fluid buildup on his knee.
