I'm with bcoach on this one. I said in another post that I cringe when we play at home now. It's like the players get so distracted or worn out from everything leading up to the game. They seem more focused on the road (for the most part).bcoach wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 8:53 amMaybe it is time to stop the grandstand celebrating, and worrying about what " outfit " you are going to wear next game. We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. I agree with your assessment. It appears we are caught up in making fashion statements rather than concentrating on our weaknesses. Cute/cool uniforms don't win games.bcoach wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 8:53 amMaybe it is time to stop the grandstand celebrating, and worrying about what " outfit " you are going to wear next game. If not for 2 studs on defense in Trey Cobb and Hampton, we might lose by 4 scores yesterday. I am not a fan of the “our goals are still in front of us” mantra. We have looked bad in multiple aspects of the game in now 5 of our last 6 games. We are lucky to have 2 wins. Is Marshall, coastal and Southern all worse than JMU? I don’t think so. If we lose a game in October or even look bad, I will be extremely worried about the future of this program.

One dimensional on offense but in a weird way. We are throwing it or running it. We do not have a run pass option AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO misdirection.
We are getting beat by running quarterbacks and we will continue to get beat by running quarterbacks. Running quarterbacks give you options and are much harder to scheme against.

In 4 games this season - I have witnessed 4 different teams. After the UNC loss - I believed the offense would be unstoppable. Not sure what the issue is - seems reality is starting to set in that maybe we have taken a stop back(or we have been reading to many headlines). Recruiting(or misses on recruiting)? Who knows - it just seems to be a little something missing. Hope we can get it fixed fast!

It feels like we are the 4th generation of a family who gained a lot of wealth from the first generation, watched the second generation bust thier butts to keep it going, saw the luxury the third generation got to enjoy, and are now the entitled brats that may end up blowing the fortunes of our family because of miscalculations, arrogance, ineptitude, nepotism, entitled feelings, focus on the brand and it's looks instead of making sure it functions well.
I hope I'm proven wrong.

That's a pretty good analogy. I think we just can't handle the spotlight very well. Back when we were about to host and play Miami we had a pep rally and everyone (understandably) went nuts like we were hosting the Super Bowl. Well that crashed and burned. Then we beat a mediocre UNC and a bad USC team and the NY6 talk went off the rails. We played Stink and we know what happened.appdaze wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 10:15 amIt feels like we are the 4th generation of a family who gained a lot of wealth from the first generation, watched the second generation bust thier butts to keep it going, saw the luxury the third generation got to enjoy, and are now the entitled brats that may end up blowing the fortunes of our family because of miscalculations, arrogance, ineptitude, nepotism, entitled feelings, focus on the brand and it's looks instead of making sure it functions well.

I agree with another post. After the UNC game I figured that aside from A&M we would be unstoppable on offense and even if we had 42-35 games we would be in great shape. Well UNC can't really stop anyone. Last week was a recipe for disaster with the non-stop national love fest and Game Day. To wonder how or why we become a different team week to week is one thing but to completely become a shell of the team from half to half is baffling.
As a suffering Panthers fan I try not to beat the fire Rhule thing into the ground. How many bad teams fire a coach, bring in a new one and immediately become good? Short list. Over the past few years after every single bad loss there is a group who wants some coordinator fired. I'm sure that there is some genius sitting defensive coordinator sitting at home waiting for the call to come magically turn us around. He will bring that perfect scheme and a few 4 star studs as well.
And will do it cheap!

Exactly right. If anyone here is not pissed off about that then I’m not sure they are the real fans. Being happy after yesterday is not something that a winner will be. I love to win but I hate losing even more than I love winning. JMU has a great coach and isn’t going anywhere. If they can do this in our house imagine when we go there. JMU is licking their chops. We have to do better. Shawn, his staff, and our team have a chance to show us what they are made of by mid November.

Well losing to them with a 28-3 lead does help erase the bad feeling about dropping to them in 2008 when up by only 21.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

I also live in JMU country, had plans to have dinner in Harrisonburg last night, and cancelled them as soon as the game ended. Didn't want to hear their fans and students discuss and celebrate the game that App should have won.bcoach wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 8:53 amMaybe it is time to stop the grandstand celebrating, and worrying about what " outfit " you are going to wear next game. I guess the Wood Grill buffet can replace their picture from the second half shit show we displayed in Harrisonburg in 2008. For anyone that doesn't remember that game, we were up 21-0, gave up the opening second half kick return, and a long run to Landers to allow them right back in the game. Fast forward to 2022 and we still struggle with kick coverage at times and mobile QBs almost every game we face one.

I am no defensive genius, but even I knew we were going to come out throwing on first down after they scored to make it 28-25. Their defensive coaches had the perfect defensive play called for that situation. Brice literally threw it right to the LB or Safety.

Likewise, I live surrounded by a good number of JMU fans and taught many who matriculated there. The car beside me at church had a JMU sticker. I'm sure he had a smile on his face as he pulled in beside my car. My niece is JMU alum. Thankfully, she's not a sports fan./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 11:46 amI also live in JMU country, had plans to have dinner in Harrisonburg last night, and cancelled them as soon as the game ended. Just from the talk on here leading up to the game, I was fearful that we might be slighting them. In the end, it wasn't really the loss as much as how it happened.

We lost this game when the coaches decided to call running plays up the middle over and over and OVER. Coach talks about winning the middle 8 minutes being key. Coach, you can’t win squat with a lack of game flow awareness.

I agree. Most of the season is ahead of us, and we still have a great win over A&M. The Sunbelt is much improved with a lot of parity. In fact. I don’t think the ACC is that much better.App_in_Maiden wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 8:20 amIt feels like every other Sunday. I wake up, I cook my daughter/wife some breakfast go to the grocery store, watch the Panthers lose, grill something for dinner, and go to bed to wake up to the next work week.
We lost. While I hate we did and especially in that fashion, it’s not the end all be all like some make it out to be. Sun still came up today. I agree that there are changes that are needed, but I nor any of us can do anything about it. We have played 4 very tough games and had lots of emotions due to the attention. These are 18-21 kids who aren’t playing at Bama or Ohio State, or any other college that always has the spotlight on them. They come to App because of our culture of being a winning program that doesn’t get the accolades often. I’ll reserve my judgment until after the season is over because I still trust these coaches will make adjustments to get this team to our true potential.
Time to move on and focus on the citadel. We are going to learn a lot from this team in these upcoming weeks.

App played South Carolina the week after losing to GA Southern. Your comment makes it sound like we beat both and then laid the egg when in reality, App had the bad game and then immediately rebounded the next week against a P5 team. We also ended #20 in the final CFP Poll. Memphis was #17 and Boise was #19. I don't think the NY6 talk was ever off the rails. It was close all the way to the end and even with our loss, we were maybe just a few breaks in the American and Mountain West from getting the bid.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 10:27 amThat's a pretty good analogy. Re: How’s it feel…? Post-JMU
I refuse to hang this loss on the shoulders of our players. We were in rhythm, applying pressure and playing out of our minds to start. Something clearly shifted in the playcalling and gameplan mid way through the second quarter. As baffling and befuddling as it is, I truly think this coaching staff lulled themselves into believing we could successfully salt away 30 min of game clock and walk out with a win. It’s always a gamble when you play that game. For the life of me, I’ll never understand that logic in any sport. Why ever take your foot off the gas? Why cease what got you the lead in the first place? Western Kentucky scored 73 on FIU yesterday. We had an opportunity in the middle 8 min of the game to swing the score 42-3 but we proceeded content that 28 would be plenty of points to win. Hopefully a huge lesson learned but who knows if it actually is.
