Maybe it is time to stop the grandstand celebrating, and worrying about what " outfit " you are going to wear next game. Maybe it is time to get serious about the fundamentals of this game. This was a total embarrassment on both sides of the ball. I live in JMU country and knew they would come to play. What I didn't know is that we wouldn't.
I'm with bcoach on this one. I said in another post that I cringe when we play at home now. It's like the players get so distracted or worn out from everything leading up to the game. They seem more focused on the road (for the most part).
If that’s the case, we aren’t a championship team to begin with.

Uniform reveals, social media posts, and all the pre-home game hoopla are imperative to building the brand and recruiting, among other things.

Big time programs win in and out of the spotlight. If we can’t handle pre-game hype of JMU at home, we certainly can’t handle the pre-game hype of a Cotton Bowl.

Most teams we play quit when we go up 28-3. JMU is not one of those teams. They have what we used to have. Heart.

Well, I feel that transitive properties are maddening this year.

I don’t think that’s fair. It’s reasonable to question decision making or lack of consistency, but saying we don’t have heart is pretty lame to me.

We fought back to score 40 in the 4th against UNC. Looked like heart to me.

We went into College Station and beat Texas A&M. seemed like we had plenty of heart there.

It’s worth noting too, that’s it’s always gonna be easier to get hyped up to play as an underdog. JMU got to play carefree like we did at A&M. I’ll be curious to see how they react as they start to get some media attention.

We’ve always been giant-killers, maybe it’s time we start learning to be giants.

Well you may have a point. Bama wearing the same uniform all the time may be why they can't recruit any decent players and build a decent brand.

Yes, we are definitely on equal footing with Alabama and experience the same challenges to gain national exposure. A very fair comparison.

I have never seen a campaign to build a brand change their logo every week. You build a brand with consistency not with who is that?

Well gosh I hope our athletic department and the 100 others out there are reading this thread. You’ve likely saved them millions in research, marketing and branding.

After reflecting on this, and not having read through this thread because I can’t relive it, here are my thoughts:

1) We are in a place right now where we could win out, or we are in a place where we don’t become bowl eligible. We are where our feet are, and we have a path to choose.

2) If we don’t have a serious change in attitude and strategy, we will lose at least 3 more games this season.

3) I’ll still support this program to the bitter end but what I’ve seen so far this season is not App football. We beat A&M because they started the wrong QB. We very easily could be 0-4. That’s not the way it has worked out thankfully, but we haven’t looked good at all.

4) kickoffs looked good.

I refuse to hang this loss on the shoulders of our players. We were in rhythm, applying pressure and playing out of our minds to start. Something clearly shifted in the playcalling and gameplan mid way through the second quarter. As baffling and befuddling as it is, I truly think this coaching staff lulled themselves into believing we could successfully salt away 30 min of game clock and walk out with a win. It’s always a gamble when you play that game. For the life of me, I’ll never understand that logic in any sport. Why ever take your foot off the gas? Why cease what got you the lead in the first place? Western Kentucky scored 73 on FIU yesterday. We had an opportunity in the middle 8 min of the game to swing the score 42-3 but we proceeded content that 28 would be plenty of points to win. Hopefully a huge lesson learned but who knows if it actually is.
I'm no coach or analyst but my amateur observation aligns with your comments.

Surely we would have managed to put up the needed touchdown or 2 in the 2nd half if our TOP 3 running backs hadn’t been sidelined. Don’t want to focus too much on the bad call “muffed punt/catch interference” but it was in fact a game changing missed call.

I know it was a rhetorical question but I do have to say something about it. Culture takes years to build, and about a month to tear down. We’ll see where we go.

There are some nice and intelligent posters on here, but some of you suck at mind reading talking about what coaches were thinking. We lost the game. The season is not over. This is the same coaching staff that scored over 60 points on the Heels and beat A&M. JMU was favored by Vegas.
