Hm. To my eyes that was one of the worst position groups compared to previous yearsappstatealum wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 4:01 pmNo. Ha

Seems like he’s a good recruiter. We’ve offered a lot of OL in the past couple of weeks which makes me think we’re keeping him. He might be close to landing 2 or 3.

He is a good recruiter, but there's something going on there. There's a reason Clark had to finish the season coaching the o line..311neers wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 4:13 pmSeems like he’s a good recruiter. That said, I have not heard he's on the chopping block

3rd and 4th down conversions. On both sides. That’ll do it.AppGrad78 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 4:31 pmA bit of raw data to aid this discussion:

Re: Dale Jones out - Footballscoop
I think the 3rd and 4th down stats show it is more of a coaching problem. The calls were terrible in many of these situations. I think we only had 4 plays from the same formation to get 1 yard on offense all year. Run up the middle; Read Option; RPO to Pearson; RPO to a slot WR in motion. All of these failed in the games we lost.
I think the RPOs are good plays but when you constantly do them in every short yardage situation, eventually a good coach/team is going to figure it out.

Re: Dale Jones out - Footballscoop
Too many because 1st down runs went for nothing followed by incompletes.
Gave up way to many 3rd and longs (3rd and 7+). Someone can pull the data but that's what it felt like all year.

If our PERSONNEL is not up to snuff, who is responsible for recruiting and player development?

Enough that David Jackson made a point of it on one of our game broadcasts.

Excuse me, this wasn't for offense. David Jackson's comment was about the number of 3rd and longs we gave up.Longrifle28 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 6:34 pmEnough that David Jackson made a point of it on one of our game broadcasts.

Re: Dale Jones out - Footballscoop
How many 3rd and longs did we create? So only 30 teams failed to stop opponents on 3rd down. What is considered "long"?
I'd like to see the stat showing the number of 3rd downs created by a defense.

Re: Dale Jones out - Footballscoop
Fact is that was bad enough that our head coach fired the man in charge of the defense.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 6:33 pmWe can't let facts get in the way ---AppGrad78 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 4:31 pmA bit of raw data to aid this discussion:

I wonder if you take out one of our FCS games how much those rankings changeAppGrad78 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 4:31 pmA bit of raw data to aid this discussion:

We were a step or two slow.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 4:41 pmI think the 3rd and 4th down stats show it is more of a coaching problem. The calls were terrible in many of these situations. Re: Dale Jones out - Footballscoop
As long as they figure it out now. No excuse to hear issues still come summer or next season. If someone has an issue and can’t patch it up then they should go. We don’t need this boiling over to next year.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 4:16 pmHe is a good recruiter, but there's something going on there.
