Blalock had a terrible game (as did others). He got burnt on passes and got suckered many times in no mans land on the option.
Terrible execution today.

It's early but i see zero offensive plays that look different than previous years.

Many times it was Patrick Blalock. He had a very poor game.

Wanted to add something to my post. Two things were shown to us and our future foes today. Our D lIne is young-which we all knew but they better grow up quick. And two, we were shown exactly how much the loses in the DB core have hurt us. I know we are getting Lott back but having him with Middleton and Blackmon all out was too much to bear and I know GSU and Wofford are licking their chops. I love Blaylock and he is a great special teams player but he just doesn't have the speed for outside contain. He had perfect the perfect angle several times and was just plan beat by pure speed. I would have put Barnes in after the second or third time PB was beat around the corner. He might not have had the practice time this week but he is faster and could contain better than PB did.

I guess SS forgot that we were behind and didn't try to force the ball downfield at opportune times, BUT WE REALLY MISSED PRICE TODAY to help in those situations.

Also, the way were stopping them did not matter, OLE'

I know our D sucked today and I know that JJ isn't the problem. I was just asking the question as to why we were so reluctent to try a pass more than 10 yards. We have thrown downfield plenty, even under the committee, yet today we didn't even try 3 times. If the only reason was they were playing for the deep pass then why not throw the mid level pass in the 10 to 15 yard range. There had to be some openings and yet we were not even looking for the mid to deep pass, instead just throwing the little short screens and across the middle. No doubt JJ has been crushed several times in the first two games. Just trying to find a logical reason why we weren't slinging it around the field, especially after we were down 4 scores. It's not like JJ hasn't done it before. Just searching.

Coaching was terrible.
D was terrible.
O was terrible.
Their athletes were better & faster. Never thought id say that about citadel.
The best thing that happened was at the end of the game we finally held them on 3rd down and the fans gave a standing ovation

Forget the score because it does not reflect reality, this was the worst beat down we have ever taken at KBS, EVER. We could not stop them ALL day long and our offense only got sympathy points when it didn't matter.

I hope this team learns a lesson. Citadel is much better than I expected but worse we were totally unprepared mentally for this game.

What probably disappoints me more than anything is we really never got off the mat and stopped the bleeding. Throughout the first half, I kept thinking, on next series we would start fighting back and turn the tide. But it never happened. We scored late and then they just hit us in the gut again. I thought, surely we would have enough pride to come out in second half and take control of game, or at least to stop them and show some fight, but that didn't happen. They just kept hitting us and we couldn't do anything to stop it.

Defense was totally rolled for entire game. VT is the only other time in recent history I have seen a team totally dominate us for entire game. But NEVER at home.

Offensively we never called right plays and really never executed for entire game.

I'm hoping with Price and Lott not playing, the other players will think twice before they do something they shouldn't do. We needed them BAD today....

Yeah, the defense couldn't do anything, but when the offense got the ball it appeared that the play calling in the first half was very coservative. Run, run, run then punt.

Citadel's D did not let us throw long, they kept everything in front of them.
As for our D, the guys were in the right place but flat footed instead of attacking and were run by.

Disagree. I think it was more of a lack of staying home and missed assignments. We certainly came out flat on both sides. But I saw a number of time where everyone crashed down on the QB only to leave the pitch man uncovered.

BTW - what did I miss? I thought we added the 3-4 exactly for these T/O teams. Didn't see us lined up in it once.

It was 38-7 at the half. The defense got rolled true, but the offense put up 7 points. Let's not fool ourselves, our offense is nothing to get excited about. Outside of perhaps Price, none of our receivers appear able to spread the field. Right now, this is not a very good team.

I'm hopeful that the offense and the creative play calling will evolve but right now its hard to argue that this offense is better than last years. I know the meme is that all our offensive woes were the product of the committee. Well, to this point, not much seems to have changed.

Worst beat down ever in modern today ASU football. By far the mosty damaging aspect was that it was a home game.

Two thoughts. First it's hard for me to lay this on the O. As much as I would like it you can't expect to score every time. When the third possession starts and you're down 21-0 the pressure is too much for most pro teams. You start trying to force big plays. I'm not in love with the play calling but when the D has spent that much time on the field a couple of run plays (which were mostly gaining yards) aren't the worst idea. If anything I don't understand why we didn't go for it on fourth and short a couple times early. Second, if I lay it on anyone it's not the WR. We weren't calling plays to stretch the field and when we did JJ didn't have time. Sumler was on the field, he's not one of the fastest players out there?

I think this goes back to what everyone was afraid of to start the year. A young OLine that SS was hesitant to have pass block against (what seemed to be) a fierce pass rush. A young DLine that didn't consistently create pressure on the option runs. Add to that the loss of players, especially Middleton and Rizor here, and it create this World of hurt.

The Citadel is for real this year, just like they were back in 1992 (when they last won in Boone). Today's game was very hard to watch - We got out butts kicked all day. We have beaten them 17 out of the last 18 games though, so hopefully that pattern starts again now. If so they don't beat us at home again until 2032. (Probably will be over yesterday by then).

There was so much failure yesterday its hard to know where to start. But the band and cheerleaders did a great job. ;) If you've ever tried to stop an option attack you know how frustrating it can be when a 1-yard gain turns into four and two-yard gain becomes six, and for all the missed assignments and big plays, that irritated me more than anything. Over and over again. Thats the lifeblood of that offense - don't got for the big hit, wrap up the legs, drive the offensive player back.

I don't know if anyone else heard this, and I almost missed it. But when they interviewed Steven Miller after the game, I'm pretty sure he let slip that the defensive front they saw was not what they worked against all week. Did Citadel put in a new package for yesterday? Might explain some of the futility on offense and our failure to manage the line of scrimmage in the first half.
