I agree. I don't want a 51-0 because if we're up by 3 or 4 in the second half, we need to be substituting and evaluating some players, giving some reps, etc. a solid 21 point win where most players get on the field would be ideal but I'm sure many would be in meltdown mode.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 11:15 amI hope it is a good game - not a nail-biter of course, beating a FCS team 51-0 does not really help a team in preparation for the schedule ahead, I think it will be a competitive game. I have read some about GW and they have an solid experienced team. Yes, App should and will win and whether it is 10, 14, 21 points does not matter to me. The coaches need film against good competition to truly evaluate the team and individuals moving into the following week's game.

Exactly. I feel that a solid 21 point win would be an ideal scenario.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 1:03 pmI agree. .and enjoy the process.
94 please stop using that phrase. I have an inexperienced administration using it because they are unwilling to make a decision. It drives me crazy every time I hear it!

I spoke with Santana’s high school coach, he said Hopper was up to 260 and much stronger, looking for great things from him.

Hoping we win by 40 or 50 , everyone gets playing time. With that said this ain't Bobby Morris and they are coming to Boone to make a name for themselves .Hopefully we play strong and physical from whistle to whistle.

Re: Fall camp
I want us to beat GW bad because I EXPECT this team to come out of the gate with a fire in their gut due to last year. I want to see them play relentless in all facets for 60 mins. If they do that then we win big. Period. The process was from end of last season, spring training and fall camp. It is time to be exceptional in game one.

Re: Fall camp
Coastal struggled with them last year and won by 4 or 5. Marshall beat them 28 to 7.
They are ranked 22 in the preseason FCS. Picked to finish 2nd in the big south.
They have a lot of starters coming back (except for QB). They have a running back and defensive end on watch lists. They picked up a lot of transfers.
Depending on what happens with the QB, this could be an interesting game. Hope some of us are ready for disappointment if we don't win by a ton.....

If future outcomes are predicated on past results, GW is likely to score on their first drive.

What I would like to see most out of this team in the first game is a nasty physical attack.

Re: Fall camp
I highly doubt we throttle GW. Not because we don't have the team to do so, but more because we have two new coordinates that are not wanting to give away too much film before UNC and ECU.
The game plan on both sides of the ball will be very vanilla.

Re: Fall camp
I'm looking and hoping we try and win those 2 follwing games with a wide open offense rather than holding it for "conference play", it'll say alot about where we are headed under Clark. Getting curbstomped because we want to win a conference championship and not show our offensive and defensive hand to our conference schedule is malarkey, especially since I consider those big games for future recruiting. ECU and UNC are perceived as bigger trophies than others on our schedule.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 10:17 amI highly doubt we throttle GW. Re: Fall camp
Might be some gamesmanship on the playbook thing but it's primarily a function of what's been installed in the office and defensive schemes. Can't call what you haven't practiced. I think they play to win the game at hand. We will hear UNC spouting the same lines about not putting their good stuff on film for conference play. I don't buy that either.

Re: Fall camp
I'm only talking about holding back against GW so we don't show UNC and ECU anything. I fully expect everything that has been installed will be on the table for week 2 and 3.

To be fair "We Gave It Our All" against UNC and A&M for sure as far as big opponents last year, but screwed a few conference pooches in turn.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 3:21 pmI'm only talking about holding back against GW so we don't show UNC and ECU anything. Re: Fall camp
For God's sake I hope they are practicing something besides right up the middle on 3rd and short and 4th and short. That was extremely predictable last season and bit us in rear several times. Back to back plays a couple of those times.
I'm looking for better this year. We will lose some this season more than likely. Just needs to be because the other team was better and our folks don't beat themselves.
