Yes several are toss up and anything with a +\- 5% to be such. Just stating what I saw and yea, you are correct in your assessment of the FPI.MtnMan14 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 8:08 amI’m seeing 10 of 12. Wyoming and UNC are favored against us. Re: Fall camp
I think options 2 and 3 are perfectly healthy, acceptable positions. Most of the people in camps 1 and 4 are just completely unrealistic and/or refuse to face reality.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 8:48 pmThe board appears to have four camps:
- Clark was a bad/lazy hire
- Clark was a good hire, but results didn’t warrant an extension and we need results this year
- Clark was a good hire and at the time the extension was fine, maybe a stretch, but we need 8 wins this season and compete for the SBC title in 2024
- Deflectors - you guys just don’t understand all the issues that were out of Clark’s control
I think most are in the third camp with some between 3rd and 4th and 2-3 total in the first.
Now, if you want some real insanity. Go check out the comments on the Atlanta Braves blog, batterypower.com. Folks are calling for Brian Snitker's head because of some bad pitching decisions. Remember, this is the manager for literally the best team in MLB this year.
So, it can always be worse/crazier.

Re: Fall camp
Yeah, being ranked higher than 11 opponents (or 10, whatever) isn't the same as projecting that we'll go 11-1. In fact, FPI's projected record for us is 7-5. (Technically 7.1-5.2)MtnMan14 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 8:08 amI’m seeing 10 of 12. Wyoming and UNC are favored against us. Re: Fall camp
So hard for even a guess with so much unknown. Defense was as large issue last year and not sure if it has gotten better.
Granted while in Vegas a couple weeks ago I did have to put a little on us to get over 7 wins. But I also put money on the Cowboys to win the SB, so I'm a bit crazy.

Re: Fall camp
Reading some of these observations and takes on the roster has me fired up. I looked at the current roster and am I wrong to say that we appear to have much bigger dudes in several positions? We seem to have a few linebackers in that 6'3"ish 230 pound range. I know we have had a couple over the last few years but it seems like we have gotten bigger there. Same for the offensive line- seeing several 6'5" close to 300 pound variety.

Re: Fall camp
I agree with you on the running game rebound, especially with the addition of a true running threat at QB. Chase did the best he could with his legs last year, but this year's QB will be a notch above his running skill.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 9:12 pmI agree with you. We also dropped a Carolina win when we were wide open, but the Troy Hail Mary was improbable so that's a push. Missed a FG to beat GaSo as well. A lot of that was on the defense, but our rushing game disappeared in several losses last year. 34 carries for 63 yards against JMU, 21 carries for 41 yards against Texas State, 27 carries for 88 yards against Coastal and 40 carries for 116 against Marshall. All 3.3 yards or less per carry and 5 or less rushing first downs in all four of those games, including 0 against Texas State. We also had a season high of 2 turnovers in ALL four of those games.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 8:36 pmWe probably could have had 8-9 wins last year with an average defense. The A&M win was incalculable. The JMU loss hurt. We really beat the 2 best teams in the conference last year in Troy and JMU considering the drama those 2 brought- should have been and could have been.311neers wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 6:36 pmWe fell below 7 wins last year with one of the best QB seasons App has seen. It’s possible, honestly think it’ll all depend on the defense again. If the defense is solid 8 wins is a good bet.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 6:09 pmBased on stats in the past we are a good bet to surpass that and I don't see how we fall below 7 wins unless our QB play is awful. I personally think we could win between 8-10 games.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 5:47 pmAfter looking it up win total projectins
APP 6.5
Coastal 7.5
Marshall 7.5
Ga Southern 6.5
JMU 8.5
I think our running game rebounds this year and I LIKE the underdog role.

I'm an Eagles fan so take these with a grain of salt. I took the over 10 INT's for DAK in a prop bet and took another that the birds won't make the playoffs. Re: Fall camp
Didn't know where else to put this so here goes... Lots and lots of discussion about Coach Clark during this fall camp. Ran into a guy while vacationing down at Litchfield Beach this past week in SC. He saw my App shirt and struck up a conversation about Coach Clark. I told him that "we" (for the most part) really really want him to succeed but were disappointed in last season. He said that he totally got that. Interestingly, he went to high school with Shawn and graduated with his class in WV. He even sat next to him in home room as his last name was Clark as well (no relation I was told). He said that while in high school, they had one of the worst teams in the state while Shawn was there. However, he said that he had never seen anyone work as hard as Shawn did. Coach Clark's dad would have him dig a ditch and fill it back in to get ready for football season. All of this to say that the guy said that he talks with some of Shawn's family from time to time and they know how much he loves App and Coach Moore for giving him a shot. Nothing new necessarily but after talking with this guy, I'm pulling for Coach Clark more than ever.
