Fire the DJ
Rick rolling the fanbase when losing. Playing "All I do is win" after a missed field goal in the first quarter. The music all game was tone deaf and seemed to follow a script. Amazingly awful.
And FYI, athletics said they had hired a DJ for all six home games after years of complaints about music selection. They hired a DJ for the UNC game last year and they were good, then back to the same below average standard. Yesterday was worse than that. It got the mom of our new QB1 saying we're too quiet on defense.
I'm sure this thread will devolve into people posting what music they want at games, but I think we can l agree what was played yesterday was awful.
Also, getting our first firing thread out of the way. Some of you likely just won some bets.

And yes, All I do is win as we were not winning — read the room.

On a separate note. Can we tell the production crew that Justin Watts isn’t our head coach. They keep showing Watts and talking about a Clark.

Bring more music from the band back. Loved back in the 06-10 years.

I don’t disagree at all but we have this conversation every year and we just go in the same circles. The old people don’t understand why they don’t get like Lynrd Skynrd or whatever, younger folks tend to ask for more modern stuff as that’s what the players likely want to hear etc. Basically you can play whatever and people will still be mad so I’ve stopped caring.

Groundhog Day, every season. The way I see it, the music isn’t really for me. It’s for the players first, then the students and crowd second.
IMO, we have far more important things to analyze and worry about than what music the dang DJ is playing.

Re: Fire the DJ
I think there's ways to give a nice mix and theme it up. Fired up 1st - Hip hop, metal/hardrock, anything with bass; Savor 2nd - Luke Combs, classic rock, more laid back tunes; Throwback 3rd - Classic Motown, Mountain Music, Oldies; Finish strong 4th - Survey the players and pick their top songs on rotation.
There, done.

why is it so hard to find someone who understands the flow of the game?
My only hope is they get better each game. If the person would go back and watch old games when the fans were into it they can see when and when NOT to play certain music, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, when to let the band play.
Same song and dance every year

Let the students pick 90% of the music….I don’t care enough to argue another year cause no one is listening.

Re: Fire the DJ
When I heard we hired a professional DJ I mistakenly assumed it was a legit club dj that knew what the players wanted to hear. After sitting through the game I realized we hired a wedding dj for our games. All that was missing was the chicken dance and the macarena and I wouldn't be surprised if he plays them at later games. It was bad.

Re: Fire the DJ
Duke DJ/music has been pretty solid. Has the crowd amped. Also, the fact they are outplaying Clemson might have something to do with it.

Re: Fire the DJ
It will constantly change. At times it feels like they implement things they hear fans/students want, but just roll it out without a plan.
Attended games at JMU and Penn State last year, and the music was played perfectly, at the right times, and almost felt like each song fit the flow of the game. It's really not a hard thing to put together.

Nor the worst song ever: Boogie Shoes. But I think that’s more a staple of basketball.J_Mountaineers wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 4:55 pmLet’s all rejoice that we didn’t hear the “I can make your hands clap” song.

Re: Fire the DJ
So I’ve given it some thought. Even when it’s the fan vote songs, we pick two songs within the same genre. Oldy goldys
Maybe mix it up and throw the song of the game to
1) here comes the boom
2) black and yellow
Clean versions obviously, and maybe not those exact songs, but a good DJ plays to the crowd. If we’re playing to a script that’s a bad look.
