Re: Up Next...UNC
Last year I personally was 100% in favor of us going for 2 against UNC to win that game as I felt we would not beat them in OT. We were gassed and based on the format I could not see us keeping them out of the endzone. Last night we just could not stop everything. We contained a great QB (the stat comparisons to guys like Caleb Williams are petty). Maye is big, runs great and makes pro decisions with passes. We definitely got gashed by their run game but there will be plenty of college games this season with huge stats- happens all the time. I can see a few App 300 yard outputs on the horizon. As soon as that last pass got thrown even the homer in me thought it wasn't close enough to call. Maybe it was PI but that stuff happens. Like in a close basketball game don't let it come down to the refs. A few people felt like UNC held on most plays but we probably did as well. It looked like the officials were, for the most part letting the teams play.
I thought Chase was the best pure passing QB we have ever had (no slight to the GOAT) but we might just have a leader in the clubhouse as far as release and velocity. Remains to be seen obviously but Joey has the goods.
We all hated the running back rotation last year and there is only one ball and so many plays in a game but what's the deal with Marshall and Roberts? I hope we are able to keep them in the fold as the entire room can play next year- scary.

Re: Up Next...UNC
The offense really played well and I certainly am optimistic that this will carry over moving forward. Great game plan. The defense played hard and made some big plays, we just wore down as they game progressed. I think the ECU game will give us a better sense of what we really have on both sides of the ball. Mark me cautiously optimistic.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 6:51 amI don't disagree but we were also playing against a P5 Defense that held SC to negative net rushing. Hopefully we have out RB depth back soon. Roberts and Marshall would be a new dimension to the running game.
It's going to be hard for SunBelt teams to defend our offense, or at least that's how it looks right now. Joey can air it out and is very poised. He can also leg it out, which opponents have to account for.

We saw the same thing. Over pursuit and some bad angles. Clean those up, stay healthy and this D can make some noise.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 10:12 pmGood news about the run defensive woes is it was mainly over pursuit. That's an easy fix.
Big props to the OL for not giving up a sack. JA was hit a few times but remained poised under pressure.
Hated seeing Harrington go down. He was having himself a game.

I’ll go ahead and eat crow for this game. I thought UNCrap would murder us.I thought the team played a great game. Doesn’t seem like we can quite get over the close game hump. So, now we need to aspire to just be better than the opponent and keep the close games at arms length. I am happy with what I saw yesterday but not willing to be happy with a loss. I see we have the talent and glimmers of coaching….but. I felt like this last year as late as the Troy game. Let’s see how we respond over a few more games.

If you watch enough football (especially college) you see how hard it is to overome the difference in athletes at certain levels. The big boy teams typically just have too much depth to overcome for the next tier and lower. How many times do we put scares into "better teams" only to wilt in the second half? You see if every week. Yesterday Clemson was up 7 at the half and that final was a blowout. We played great start to finish but we simply can't trot out the depth of a good P5. If Carolina plays Texas next week they probably lose by 3 scores- Minnesota will be an interesting test for sure. How we respond next week will be the true test of our staff. They always talk about putting the previous game in the rear view mirror. Let's go 11-1!pop5app wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 7:12 amI’ll go ahead and eat crow for this game. Tough loss, but I feel so much better about the remainder of the season. The offense was finally unleashed in this game and JA is going to be exciting to watch. The defense was aggressive and played well, Hampton was not going to be denied. Beat ECU!

Marshall is dinged up and not quite ready to go. Kanye is not ready yet to take on a bigger role.

Re: Up Next...UNC
Good news is that he increased his activity from last week. Was a non-participant last week but the stat sheet said he played yesterday. Was he on Special teams last night? Hard to see who all is out there on ST.
Roberts was on Special teams as well.

We couldn't have asked for a better staff performance. What a difference a year makes.

Loved hearing Brandon Turner call out all the haters on the post game. He said, that's right, I read the message boards.App_in_Maiden wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 11:47 pmI’m still waiting on the haters…where y’all at?!?!?

Joey is super chill. I don’t care if the coaches like the attitude or not, this is a great mentality to have. Water off a duck’s back, don’t let the last play or game affect what you’re doing. Bet this guy could be a hell of a good golfer.

That dude leaks "california" from his pores. Gravitas on drip. For those of us who have coached, this is a guy you LOVE to have in a key role.

It wasn’t our Super Bowl, but the hit on Drake Maye in OT2 felt like winning the Super Bowl. And when the camera panned to him after the game was over, that wasn’t him excited they won, that was relief he didn’t have to play OT3.

Not sure what I coach wouldn't like about this- save the firey and emotional guys for defense. This is a perfect attitude for a QB.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 10:51 amJoey is super chill.
