You're right - I actually haven't seen a single person talk about what a good passer Jose is.

Re: Jose. Best App passing qb in recent memory?
If we are talking about Joey, it has been mentioned, by me. I don't recall an App State QB since at least 2004 who threw with the anticipation of Joey. When you pair his NFL quality release with his quick decision making, it makes it very, very hard on the defense to stop those short outs, ins, curls, and slants. Once the film gets out and guys start getting jittery to jump those, I think Ponce should install some double moves and choice routes to action off of. People said Joey stared down his receivers against Gardner-Webb but that's not what he's doing. He's reading his key pre-snap and very quickly post snap and he knows where he needs to go with the ball. A perfect example of this is his touchdown to Davis. It was a post, over or something and he read the shallow route first while checking the safety and as soon as he read the key, that ball was out quick and it was like a 45 yard throw with very little effort. He also had some moments in the pocket that made me rewind the game, dodging, ducking, dipping, diving, and dodging, while sliding up and out of the pocket.
I loved Chase here and thought he would be the best thrower and processor that we would see for a while but I don't remember him being like Joey. Brice would throw a slant if a slant was called. Joey seems to read the key and he'll move off of the slant quickly if he knows it's not going to be there.
He has some next level processing speed, ball speed, and release. I'll be really excited to see how well he can continue to do.

Love what Joey brings and looking forward to seeing much more of him. But I'm not ready to put him ahead of Brice after 90 minutes of play. I hope he is though!

Jose Armhold has an excellent release, but it has been two games. Let's learn his name before we start throwing that out there.

I agree. Love Joey. There were two passes, in addition to the actual interception, that could have been INTs. I do like his short to medium throws. However, arm is not as strong as Brice overall with longer throws. All this from an armchair QB sitting in section 202 and not having 300 DLs in my face. He has great poise. I also like that he will initiate a hit if needed. That rallies the troops

CB7 but Joey has showed he can sling it and maybe pass Brice in the ranks.

Don’t get caught up on comparisons. Enjoy the ride.

For what it's worth, the strongest arm I ever saw on campus was actually a baseball player. I saw Dillon Dobson throw a football 70 yards after conditioning one day on the football field. Played SS at App, 2015 draft pick. Was 6'3 220lbs, ran a 6.6 60 and could windmill dunk between his legs at the SRC. A few parents had a call with Satterfield to let him know about Dobson. Dillon didnt want to play though, went professional in baseball. Athletically reminded me of Brian Quick.

I can appreciate a dude who can sling it 50 yards plus but you have to actually hit a receiver. Looks like we have a QB who is cool in the pocket, can roll and throw and can also take off and run. I'll take those 3 attributes over the cannon all day long. Agree with one of comments above. We will double move some defenders and those long ones, especially to Davis will be easy scores.

Re: Jose. Best App passing qb in recent memory?
Am I the only one that thinks he put too much air under his throws? I said it out loud several times during the game that if his throws were lasers, they would be completions. But he kept throwing lobs, that sometimes went our way, thanks to our receivers. Luckily the ones that didn’t go our way were incomplete. If he cleans that up, we’re in for a good season.

Re: Jose. Best App passing qb in recent memory?
Two games v. two years...Agree you can't place him above Brice just yet. But, his versatility allows him to make some passing plays that it would difficult for Brice to make. That TD pass to Wilson on the roll out is not something I think Brice could have done. While Joey was 11-13 v GW, he was only 51% against UNC. That's to be expected given the difference in the competition. Let's how his accuracy fairs versus ECU.
All that said, I feel very confident in the offense's ability to move the ball with him at the helm.
