With how we looked last night and sitting at 3-2, yes. 8-4 would be awesome. 7-5 okay.

7-5 with conditions, bowl win and marked improvement on mental mistakes.
There are four or more teams better than us in our conference: JMU, Troy, Marshall, and yes GS are ahead of us.

Maybe the Herd will change my mind against NC State...their offense has not been impressive. Their D gave up some yards to ODU yesterday. Yes, they beat Tech...but is tech any good....tech did best pitt...but pitt is struggling too...

Not sure where to put this but this is an active post and football related.
I’ve been on the LED Lights/Gold flashing banners for awhile now. Even Southern flashes blue lights/banners now.
Would be awesome to have for recruits and night games like this coming Coastal game. Hope there’s a plan in place/budget for this. Anyone heard if we’re getting them soon?

7-5 and the 7-6 might be enough to save Clark. It would be an improvement over last year. It might look like he's on the brink of turning things around.
The frustrating thing to me, is we really could win out. We could also loose six more games. It is just so frustrating. This era has been completely without identity.

Overall how does our roster look for the next two seasons? We appear to be pretty loaded at the skill positions next year, losing some offensive linemen and losing no quarterbacks (to graduation). Need to go get a few O-line and we are solid.

Marshall has a good shot to beat NCSU this year...the Pack's defense is pretty good but their O is pathetic.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 10:37 amMaybe the Herd will change my mind against NC State...their offense has not been impressive. And regarding field illumination...it's a bit baffling to see how much money has been poured into NEZ, then look up at our lighting stands (straight outta the 1970s)...and then the East Stands which look like post-"Shock & Awe" Baghdad.

Re: ULM
Not trying to play the GW is a really good team line here but #4 for ULM may be the best receiver we face going forward. Certainly, I would think as good as we will see. Not making any excuse for how poor we defended the pass, but he deserves some the credit for making us look bad.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 7:40 amI’ll be watching the USA@ULM game next week. I do hope this ULM team is a top three western team.
We survived so many mistakes last night and very lucky Bowden didn’t sneak on the goal line and/or kick the FG.
The interceptions and poor coverage by our secondary were troubling.
We seemed to get coverage sacks last week, but WYO threw more intermediate passes, the long ball is now on film for everyone to see.
Joey struggles to see the defense at times, each game there’s an interception that a safety reads him. The snap into the motion man was a mental mistake as well, attention to details in college football is so critical. But he may still be our best option and we’ll need to overcome those.
CCU looks pretty bad on defense so let’s exploit them, send McCAll off with a nice L shaped present.

Re: ULM
My personal opinion. Our Online is average to a little above average at best when you consider what we have starting overall and current talent depth. 54 and 62 are pretty good. 59 struggles some in pass rush from time to time. The left side of the line is a little suspect but getting better with each game.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 11:00 amOverall how does our roster look for the next two seasons? If I am Clark, I am spending my TP scholarships on OL and various D positions. I believe this pipeline was hit the hardest on depth. I may have math years wrong...but Satts 2018 class (enroll 2019) would be RS seniors and Drinks RS juniors (enroll 2020)..you miss out sometimes with coaching changes.
With all underclassmen playing on D this year, you would think we are set up for success in future but need more depth. There is some significant drop off if a couple of players get injured as many starting are sophomores. Would have loved to have Harrington on the field all year. Kid deserves a break. With that said, love the speed our D plays with even if making newbie mistakes...and they seem to have better chemistry than culture this year.

Marshall is 13th out of 14 conference teams in rush defense. (We are 12th). They are #1 against the pass. That said, they are #2 in overall team defense in the Belt. Their offense is mid-pack (7th).BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 10:37 amMaybe the Herd will change my mind against NC State...their offense has not been impressive. Re: ULM
I was at the NCSU game Friday night. They have some speed but they looked skinny and horrible offense. Not real impressive on defense either from what I saw. I expect Marshall to handle them without any issues. If they don't I think we have a good shot at them.Bootsy wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 11:02 amMarshall has a good shot to beat NCSU this year...the Pack's defense is pretty good but their O is pathetic.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 10:37 amMaybe the Herd will change my mind against NC State...their offense has not been impressive. If the kids like it, then I’m all for it. Plus, I’d guess LEDs are way more sustainable than what we have. Sounds like an Appalachian thing already.hapapp wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 11:44 amTo each his own, and I wouldn't get upset if we did it, but I'm not a huge fan of such.311neers wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 10:55 amNot sure where to put this but this is an active post and football related.

Can’t stand Southern, but everyone is doing it now. Think it’s time to hop on the trend. Gold lights would be sweet with our Gold Banners lit up.
Even November games at 3:30pm could use these lights. Gets dark at 5pm!

Re: ULM
I think it's difficult to argue with this analysis but it's definitely close enough we could beat any of these teams. Marshall and GS at home I will be disappointed if we don't get at least one of those. We really just are that team now we can beat anyone or lose to anyone. I think we can finish with an undefeated home record this year, but I also won't be even marginally surprised if we lose any road game left. I wouldn't be confident in our team in a road game at Carson Newman right now

We scored a lot of points last night , despite turnovers but struggled on D.The complete opposite of the previous week.Maybe ULM is good this year ? I do think there is a chance that we hit a mental and physical wall after what has been a taxing three weeks or so.

Compared to Texas State last year, we actually won. I do want to see us more aggressive offensively.t4pizza wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 11:02 pmDid you not see the Texas State game last year? We have actually been much more disciplined (less penalties) this year than in past years.asu1988 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 10:43 pmWell, a win is a win. I've been watching App State Football for almost twenty years. I've never seen more undisciplined and lack of preparation for a win. These next few weeks are crucial. I've given Clark every benefit of a doubt, but the next few weeks is where the rubber will meet the road.

I would like to bump this post to point out that ONCE AGAIN App played very poorly while sporting helmet stripes.MrCraig wrote: ↑Fri Sep 29, 2023 8:31 amI'm partial to the classic black-white-black, but literally any other combo is better than this yellow-white-white.Parks&RecAPP wrote: ↑Fri Sep 29, 2023 7:47 amThe best road combo IMO is the all-white storm trooper look.
Also, everyone be prepared for the Mountaineers to under-perform because the helmet stripes are bad luck. I will continue to believe this until proven otherwise.
How many more bad performances do we need to see before we get rid of the stripes on the helmets?

While #4 was good it is worth noting that those "ESPN announcers" were the local commentators affiliated somewhat with the school. They try to be objective, but have allegiances very much like David Jackson and Avery Hall do when they work our home ESPN+ games.BayouApp wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 8:02 pmAgree.
