Re: Who?
Really? I have nothing against Elliot, but this is his 7th season at GSU and he's never won more than 7 regular season games. Pretty sure Clark is undefeated in the head to head games as well. I do agree that GSU is looking tough this year but given the choice of Shawns, I think we have the right one.

Re: Who?
I dont think a head to head comparison is really the way to look at it. I mean it may need to be an unknown/unproven coach. All that we do know is Shawn Clark isnt the answer. He is 6-11 in his last 17 fbs games. Where he should be 14-3 or so.
We are in such a dangerous place of losing everything this program has built and going into dark ages we havnt seen since the 70s...I personally think we are past the ppint of no return...but if there is hope..its not with Shawn Clark.

Dan Mullen got a hefty buyout from Florida and isn’t currently coaching. I wonder if he’s ever been to Boone…Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2023 9:15 pmApp fans always seem to struggle with the thought of hiring a coach that’s going to leave for P5 money. But it has made me think about coaches that already have money and may just be looking for a spot to settle in and love coaching. Frost has money. I even think about Satt coming back. Both teams were seemingly in every game only to lose close ones in brutal fashion after some player made a foolish mistake and despite all that the fans kept supporting the team with continued sell outs. But Frost did some magic in Orlando.

Re: Who?
The post I responded to was specifically making a head to head comparison. I'm just pointing out the reality, but of course you are free to look at it however you want. For the record, I think Elliott is a good coach but he was 4-8 last year in a season when he was expected to be a dark horse candidate for the SunBelt East. That wasn't even the worst of his 6 previous seasons. Just saying, people have a tendancy to lose perspective.AppSt12 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 6:29 amI dont think a head to head comparison is really the way to look at it. I disagree with the conclusion that App is somehow on the verge of falling off a cliff. I do understand the concern and totally understand the frustration. I was at App when Working (sorry for typing that name) was the coach. There is no similarity in what is happening now vs then. For the record, that was the early 80's, not the 70's. The 70's included some bad years (1977 for example) but also included 1975 season when we beat Wake, South Carolina and East Carolina. Appalachian Football was not lost in obscurity. It was referred to as a sleeping giant.
The biggest difference between 2023's team and the "ASU Football Ain't Working" era is the fact that Clark has not lost the locker room. As long as that remains the case, there is reason to hope that this team can get over that hump.

Re: Who?
This is the first year we have embraced the portal...and not to the extent of some other teams. I believe we are turning more to that philosophy due to it being a requirement to being competitive... unless we can develop depth internally. I do think depth is building but it is young depth especially on D.
I would like to win whether by going through HS recruiting or Portal. My preference is that it is primarily through HS recruiting and secondary through Portal. It is pretty evident we need more depth in secondary. My sense is that we need to get more depth at OL and DL and LB. We have done better than I thought at DL this year. Be great to see the kids get another year with S&C...as it has been less than a year. Nate Johnson has been a great recruit and getting time as a freshman.

Re: Who?
I would absolutely love Mullen. I think he would be perfect except he'll be back in the SEC in no time. A&M and Arkansas will be open soon.MrCraig wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 7:17 amDan Mullen got a hefty buyout from Florida and isn’t currently coaching. Re: Who?
I don’t want to dox myself, so at the risk of sounding like some annoying posters on here, I know that Mullen has gotten phone calls from a lot of schools. From what I’ve heard, he’s happy living off his buyout from UF, spending time with his family, working a little for ESPN, and playing golf a lot. But I very well could be misinformed.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 12:57 pmI would absolutely love Mullen. I think he would be perfect except he'll be back in the SEC in no time. Re: Who?
Mullen hates recruiting. Literally said he doesn't want to recruit during the season while head coach at Florida.

Re: Who?
What's the profile Gillin and Sofield want - an OC, a DC or a former or current HC?
Then it goes to:
Who is interested?
Who can AppState afford?
Who turns it down and then who is left standing?
Parker Search Firm will have the search knowing the past connection and the Parkers are members of Elk River, they probably already have a small list for Gillin to look over.
Gillin will want a hire before Christmas Break - the last game is Nov 25th, if you fire him Nov 26-Nov 30 big payday -- looking at calendar Press Conference will be around Dec 3rd - around that Auburn home basketball game meet the New coach at that Auburn basketball!!
Bet my paycheck this is already being planned this morning.

Re: Who?
This checks out. Heard word big donors called in day after coastal. Next morning, Clark looked like he had the flu at his presser. I think he knew.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 3:48 pmWhat's the profile Gillin and Sofield want - an OC, a DC or a former or current HC?

Diaz is also the type of coach to quit mid season if it means he can take a step up somewhere. Look at what he did to Temple when Miami came calling.PhillyApp1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 3:05 pmManny sucked as head coach

Re: Who?
Here’s a kind of random one. There’s a long history of good coaches coming out of Delta State.
