Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
Joey was with a group of 4 that sat a few rows in front of us at the Auburn game. I recognized the OL Bucky (who I think has used up his eligibility) but did not recognize the other 2 guys. They were in the Yosef Club reception room as well.

That is my general feeling as well. I knew Joey’s outcome for a few days. I haven’t gotten the same confirmation about #90.GSUwasGump’sFallbackSchool wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 12:49 amHe ain’t goin nowhereASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 7:56 pmHmmmm very interesting

Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
Not sure this has been mentioned on this thread, but Joey announced he's coming back next year on Twitter. He also pushed the 3333 NIL collective in the same post.
Worth noting, I read in The Athletic this morning that the portal broke ANOTHER record for player transfers this year. Over 1,000 players are in the transfer portal. If the statistics that say 50% of those guys never come out of the portal, that's ~500 players out of the sport. I'd love to see a breakdown of how many guys used to wash out before the portal. Were these guys leaving football at this rate before and we just didn't know? Or is this a whole new phenomenon?

How many quarterbacks in particular are starters and played well at a good school then have entered the portal and ended up "upgrading " so to speak and started at their next school? Saw that DJ U is on the move again. As was pointed out there are only like 130 starting spots for QB at our level and probably at least a third aren't that appealing. The big boys still have 5 star guys who were recruited and are ready to compete. I really hope the core of guys we have is looking for a "run it back " approach. Next year could be really fun.

Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
The 1,000 is somewhat misleading. Pre-portal we lost ~5-10 players that decided to walk away from football. College is just a different level. Unsure how many still fit that category vs how many of those now enter the portal as an alternative.

Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
This may be way off, but I wonder if some of these players transfer just because they can. Like, look at DJ U. Started at Clemson, transferred to Oregon State and did really well, now he's transferring again. I don't know him or his situation, but it would seem like he would stay at Oregon State since he did so well. Maybe he just wants to see different parts of the country? Go live in different places and see different cultures while the football school foots the bill? I mean, I wouldn't blame him.

He probably wants to play for a team who is actually in a conference and can win some kind of championship. Oregon St. no longer has a conference.MrCraig wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 10:19 amThis may be way off, but I wonder if some of these players transfer just because they can. Like, look at DJ U. Coaching change. Probably similar to JMU. Coach leaves, QB leaves.goapps93 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 10:27 amHe probably wants to play for a team who is actually in a conference and can win some kind of championship. I won't deny that money plays a role, but we have to stop automatically thinking that every transfer is solely about money. Oregon State and Washington State's situation absolutely sucks right now. No conference, new coach, nothing to play for next season. I wouldn't blame a single player if they all entered the portal.

Yes, add that to the laundry of reasons to leave OSU.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 10:30 amCoaching change. Probably similar to JMU. Ohio State's starting QB went into the portal too. Allegedly its because Day wouldn't commit to him being the starter for the bowl game and going into next year.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 7:46 amHow many quarterbacks in particular are starters and played well at a good school then have entered the portal and ended up "upgrading " so to speak and started at their next school? Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
My bad. Somehow I missed that Oregon State's coach was going to Michigan State. I'm sure that's why DJ is leaving.goapps93 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 11:06 amYes, add that to the laundry of reasons to leave OSU.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 10:30 amCoaching change. I still stand by my point that a decent athlete could experience a lot of life if he just transferred to wildly different parts of the country.

I don’t think that . Some are. Some are not. Top level kids , more likely.goapps93 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 11:05 amI won't deny that money plays a role, but we have to stop automatically thinking that every transfer is solely about money.
