I have not seen others worse myself but it really has nothing to do with his actions. This man was completly out of control. Absolutly no excuse for his actions. At that point it looked very much like he was a danger to others. I am just stunned that folks can justify his actions.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 4:32 pmIm just not seeing why you think this was so bad? And it wasn't like the refs had made or not made a call that cost him the game - it was basically a "nothing non-call"
If he does something like in front of a nationwide audience what does he do when the cameras aren't on him

The worst thing is, he didn't draw a flag and was awarded one on the next play. That kind of justifies his actions, instead of condemning them.
He was ready to fight the coach who was in charge of "handling" him on the sideline.

His reaction to the other coach trying to restrain him is the part that bothered me the most. I don't think he deserves to be "cancelled" but if I were the AD, I do think we would have a discussion. I'm sure he knew his error soon thereafter. I'm not aware of this being part of his overall trend. An isolated event (if it was that) that didn't actually escalate isn't a deal breaker.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 10:12 pmThe worst thing is, he didn't draw a flag and was awarded one on the next play. He knew it was a bad look because he had a post on X shortly after the game showing the two of them with their arms around each other's shoulders and some comment about what good friends they were. He was obviously in damage control mode.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 7:41 amHis reaction to the other coach trying to restrain him is the part that bothered me the most. Re: Sun Belt coaching carousel
That's also why some coaches have a "get back" coach. They know they'll get too into the game, cross a line, and they need a guy to pull them back and take the screaming. Is it a little immature? Maybe, but it's better than getting a penalty or thrown out of the game.appst89 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 7:51 amHe knew it was a bad look because he had a post on X shortly after the game showing the two of them with their arms around each other's shoulders and some comment about what good friends they were. Re: Sun Belt coaching carousel
It's almost as if he told the one coach to hold him back, it was theatre after that.
He's like the kid in high school that tells people to hold him back, he doesn't want to fight, but wants to appear tough. He took it too far, but it worked on the uncatchable ball 5 yards out of bounds.
They missed the holding call that caused the facemask btw.

I used to want to throw up every time they showed Venables at Clemson with the guy assigned to hold him back. My god grown ass adults who need another grown ass adult to keep them under control.

He’s on Duke’s short list reportedly. Might make the bowl game really interesting. Monroe apparently ready to announce. Poor bloke.

Looks like he’s done well in the Patriot League, so it’ll be interesting to see what he does against the SBC level of competition and in recruiting with scholarship offers.hapapp wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 10:43 amhttps://x.com/PeteThamel/status/1732771 ... 19817?s=20

Re: Sun Belt coaching carousel
Wonder if JMU fans are happy with that hire. I doubt our fans would be. The patriot league is about as low on the totem pole as you get in FCS. Reminds me of when Charlotte hire that guy from Austin Peay, didn't work out too well for them. I am not say that FCS coaches can not make good FBS coaches at all, just saying that I assumed JMU had larger aspirations and wanted someone with more success at higher profile schools. Winning against small New England schools and the Ives does not move the needle for me at all and that is essentially all the patriot league plays.

Coach was successful at the FCS level. I do not know him and not many, if any, on this board know him. I am sure jmu interviewed him, background check, knows his history of success, etc...how does one know that they settled or do not have higher aspirations if you do not know him. If this guy is good, maybe he sticks around longer than the norm for a P5 feeder school. Not sure one can accurately judge unless you know the details.

I don't disagree with what you say, but perception is reality and the perception of pioneer conference coaches is not that high, not even close to the same level as even socon coaches. Now, that doesn't mean he won't do a good job. I just wondered aloud what the fan base thought based on the perceptions.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 11:55 amCoach was successful at the FCS level. Re: Sun Belt coaching carousel
Perception lasts 15 minutes in this context. He wins or loses based upon performance. If JMU thinks they got their guy....they got their guy until he is not their guy. I wonder how Texas A&M feels about their "last guy"...now their paying him millions to sit at home. A known name does not make it a good hire. Time will tell with this guy if he is or isn't.t4pizza wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 12:08 pmI don't disagree with what you say, but perception is reality and the perception of pioneer conference coaches is not that high, not even close to the same level as even socon coaches. Re: Sun Belt coaching carousel
This guy fits the last two JMU hires. Successful at several lower level stops as a HC. Both Houston and Cignetti were successful HCs at the D2 level and the FCS level. I think they look at this as the best path to success. I would guess most JMU fans will like this hire.

Re: Sun Belt coaching carousel
Big question in SBC now I guess is will Marshall coach be fired for those comments on their QB? Seems to be plenty of drama around it.
