SB BB Coach of the Year
SB BB Coach of the Year
Dustin should be a no brainer for Sun Belt MBB Coach of the Year. Should also be in at least conversation for National Coach of the Year.

Agreed, even if we split the next 2 games, a no brainer. Just drove back to the office in Raleigh and sure enough, who is being interviewed on the radio, our man Kerns. Dude is relentless.

Yeah, I heard he's a real jerk-and-a-half. Not the kind of guy you want running a big program. We'll be doing everyone a favor by keeping him in Boone.

While on the subject of post-season awards, who is our team’s Player of the Year?
I could make a convincing argument for five players.

Tough question, but for me it’s Gregory. Brings a toughness and calmness to the team.
Abson - DPOY
Spillers - new comer of the year
This is my favorite team since Marshall Phillips and Tyson Patterson.

Finish First and yes. Don is the leader of the team. Tangible and otherwise.

For me this is probably the first team that would handle the Cremins-Hubbard-Robinson-Lawrence-Anderson-Searcy teams.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Re: SB BB Coach of the Year
I agree with Saint. I would go with Gregory as our player of the year. It would be tight though because I could see flipping to Harcum or Spillers or Abson if they play great this week. I will be interested to see who makes all-sun belt because none of them have numbers who stand out but if we win the last 2 games then I think App and JMU have to dominate the postseason awards.
This is our best team all-time. We should have several who play in the NBA, G-League, or Europe.
And I hope the JMU coach is the coach of the year. Kerns is not that good and these power programs should just ignore him and look to someone else.

I think our only first teamer will likely be Gregory. The nature of our squad is that it's a true team without many stars, which makes it likely that only a couple of our players get recognition. And, despite our efforts to cloak Kerns from recognition, he will be coach of the year.

Re: SB BB Coach of the Year
We have played some teams who aren't nearly as good who basically have one really good player who generally dominates their points. Those guys usually get the all conference honors. That's ok we have the best team which is all that matters.

Yah its tough with the team having such an all around great season. I'd give the nod to Gregory with him having career highs in some categories which is wild given the length of his career. He's averaging a full turn over less on higher scoring and his all around contributions are such a building block for the team. Several guys well deserving of Sunbelt accolades.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 1:03 amI agree with Saint. I would go with Gregory as our player of the year. Re: SB BB Coach of the Year
I'd be surprised if Abson isn't first team. His impact on the game for surpasses the points, rebound, and blocks. I'd love to know our opponents FG% within four feet compared to their averages.hapapp wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 6:46 amI think our only first teamer will likely be Gregory. If I'm picking a starting five from all players available in the SBC I start with him due to his unique skill set.

Re: SB BB Coach of the Year
Abson is like that defensive tackle who might not get sacks but eats up the double teams and puts constant pressure on quarterbacks and creates disruptive plays. Agree, in addition to the blocks how many shots has he altered or prevented in the paint?Saint3333 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 7:56 amI'd be surprised if Abson isn't first team. Re: SB BB Coach of the Year
I wouldn't be shocked if he was first team given our position in the standings. Teams have certainly schemed around him as of late and his stats may have fallen a bit but the fact that he factors such a place in the opponent's gameplan could also play in his favor. I definitely think he should be the defensive player of the year.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 7:56 amI'd be surprised if Abson isn't first team.
