Given Up

Unread post by JCline0429 » Mon Oct 14, 2013 1:20 am

Does it ever occur to many of us (including myself) that we have given up entirely on this season . It's not likely by any stretch of imagination that we can turn this thing around but we should not give up so easily.
If we write this season off entirely, don't we assume the players will likely to do so, too?
Just food for thought.

As an Eagle fan I should be happy at your results this year but I'm Actually feeling sorry for you guys. It sure ain't a good feeling believe me. Normally I would revel in Apps misery, but we were there in 2006-2009 so I do have SOME sympathy. This year seems like a wasted year for us also, it seems we aren't "all in" but it may be due to our injury situation, I don't know. All I know is that we played 2 stinkers this year and have struggled against two mediocre teams, so no one on our side is looking past our game in two weeks. Hopefully we can get some o-line and a b back healthy and put another crack in the rock but as always, excuses and records are out the window when we play. Looking forward to seeing you toothless hillbillies in a couple of weeks. Now go take care of Furple and wash yourselves before our game. I'll save my real hate for App until next year when we leave this crappy private school conference. See y'all in a couple of weeks.

It depends on the goals set forth by the team. Sure we can write off a SoCon title and a winning record, but achieving those goals won't help us next year or the year after. The goals for this year should have been to develop young talent and learn new schemes. Those goals are still attainable.

Apparently, one of Satterfield's primary goals is to develop young talent.
As to "learn new schemes," isn't Woody still working in his new defensive schemes. Or has that been abandoned?

I think when a rival struggles, it's fun for a while but at some point the fun is gone. The rivalry between GaSo and App is based on the fact that we are similar schools and our programs are consistently good (evenly matched). That's what makes winning even sweeter! When the rival struggles for too long, the rivalry loses luster and it isn't fun anymore. I didn't enjoy watching GaSo struggle (after a while). No real competitor enjoys kicking anyone while they are down.

I am still hopeful (getting tougher) that by the time the Eagles role into Boone, We will be ready to stand toe to toe and the game will be a great one!

Speaking of a large number of the posts on here. People talking about we aren't going to beat anybody else this year but WCU and that isn't a sure thing. Personally I think we can win no less than two more. Seeing Saturday's game in person, one would assume we are really bad until you consider the level of talent, savvy, speed, and coaching Samford has. I understand that Pat Sullivan is sick of late, but someone said he was up top. His influence on the team is undeniable.

That should be all of our goals.
BTW, rep point.

I will admit that packing up the tailgate gear next month may be a time of relief rather than sorrow.

Meanwhile, however, I will standing at my 111 seat.

Not to my knowledge. I was speaking of Woody installing the 3-4 versus whatever we ran last year. I recall Jones trying to incorporate the 3-4 for personnel reasons but they didn't seem to commit to it.
