Re: Another Portal Loss and Portal Discussion
Although I am glad we are mining the portal more the last couple of years and hope all of them work out, I do not get into preseason rankings. Means absolutely nothing to me. Each year is different. The culture of the team will decide our destiny at the end of the day given we have many key coaches back. And, in college football, that changes every year... even sometimes when you think you have many players coming back from previous year. These are 18 to 30 year old young adults (seems like eligibility last forever). Although I am optimistic about the team, we shall see how team progresses and reacts to adversity on the field. We need good leaders to turn adversity into opportunity. This will be shown in the first 3 or so games.

Honestly the player from SoCal looks like an NFL veteran.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 3:39 amAlthough I am glad we are mining the portal more the last couple of years and hope all of them work out, I do not get into preseason rankings. Re: Another Portal Loss and Portal Discussion
All of this right here is a prime example of hammer meet nail. The loss of Jack Murphy looms large from not only an on the field aspect but more importantly a leadership standpoint. Happy to have guys like KaRon and Brenden still around to lend their voice, but the absence of Murphy is huge. Especially in a group that is probably the weak link of the team.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 3:39 amAlthough I am glad we are mining the portal more the last couple of years and hope all of them work out, I do not get into preseason rankings. Good leaders rise to the occasion. In a group as large as a football team there is more than 1 guy who has what it takes to lead. Give that young man or men time to grieve and then step up.

Easier said than done. Our leaders that stepped up in 2022 were not up to the challenge.kornegaylw wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 7:25 amGood leaders rise to the occasion. Re: Another Portal Loss and Portal Discussion
While I had periods during my adult life when I kind of wished I could be back in college when I graduated after 4 years and one summer I was ready to go. Folks have different situations and priorities but it's hard to imagine really wanting to still be in college (playing a sport) at 25. Even transferring once or twice (or more) is a bit ridiculous. One semester at App I had an older roommate who had started a couple of years late and had transferred. If I recall he was about 23 when I was maybe 20. He seemed like an old man.

I guess that was my point, too. Stepping up doesn't make one a leader, it just makes one loudest. I have no doubt that there are actual leaders among that group of 100+ young men. Just have to hope they are identified and encouraged.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 9:51 amThat’s the point.appst89 wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 9:27 amWere they really leaders, then?AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 7:50 amEasier said than done. Re: Another Portal Loss and Portal Discussion
I was on the waitlist and received an email Friday evening saying that I could call and order on Monday (yesterday). I was on the list last year and was not selected so I am pretty stoked that I was able to get them this year.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 11:26 amNice. Nice. Glad that you were able to get off the waitlist. I was told that they would be able to get through roughly half the list. You will have a great time making memories with the little one.10key2011 wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 11:35 amI was on the waitlist and received an email Friday evening saying that I could call and order on Monday (yesterday).
