Let’s hope he at least hits a secondary goal then. About time….Saint3333 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 3:17 pmThe funny thing about this hand wringing is Clark's expectations are higher than anyone saying a conference title is the "goal".
People making every post in this thread have as much individual power over the future of the staff as those posters reminding us of that have over stopping the expectation comments, which gives me a chuckle as well. Always entertaining!
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Re: Thoughts on the season/Team?
There have been several on here that have said we should win conference championship every year. That is the expectation. That is unreasonable and not criticism. Wanting to see a little more is desirable. Requiring perfection every year is disrespectful -- whether intent or not.appstatemike wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 1:03 pmI haven’t seen any disrespect towards Clark. I haven’t seen anyone rooting against his success. We all want him to succeed. No one has questioned Clark’s effort or enthusiasm. He clearly loves the program and wants to succeed more than anyone. My goodness can no one handle a little criticism nowadays?? We just want to see a little more
Being in contention throughout the season is reasonable. And, outside one one year, that's been the case. He's been in the championship on 2 of his 4 seasons -- and one season didn't even have a game. So, making the championship game in 66% of the opportunities (or 50% if you count 2020 season since there was a game cancelled before Coastal faked COVID so they didn't have to play the game) is pretty damn successful.
I don't get the Clark hate. Any other fan base outside of the blue bloods would be clamoring to have the success Clark has had here.
Of course every App fan wants Clark to have success because that means App is having success. But, it's the same people that wanted Satterfield gone too that are the most vocal. And if this season is as successful as I think it can be, they'll be the same ones claiming Clark is the goat and they never doubted him.
I guess that's what happens with successful programs though. You'll always have the fans that aren't happy no matter what. Unfortunately, those are also the most vocal.

I don’t see any of those fans in this thread. Where are these boogiemen that hate Clark and Satterfield?

I hope everyone gets the "doubting Clark" madness out of their system before the season starts. This man bleeds Black and Gold and wants nothing more than to kick a bunch of keisters 12 times this season then add two more with a SB championship ring and a bowl championship ring. The man has done plenty to earn respect and it needs to be given, back him and his staff, stop questioning, and as the locker room sign says, give your all to Appalachian State.

My guess is that when it comes to that, the bottom of the totempole is well above us.

This board is small snapshot to what fans are thinking and saying behind closed doors (hyperbolically of course on here).
The discussions on here in 2022 season and early 2023 weren't that much different than the underlying conversations being held on the upper floors of the west tower by people with influence.
I'm very glad the back half of 2023 turned out the way it did and we avoided a tough decision.

There's some fringe opinions on the upper floors of the west tower that should not be listened to either.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 12:23 pmThis board is small snapshot to what fans are thinking and saying behind closed doors (hyperbolically of course on here).

I have a player in a class occasionally. Have one in my group for my summer class right now I'll just pass along everything from the board. I'm sure he'll love it...

Re: Thoughts on the season/Team?
Some people apparently lack the discernment to make the distinction that because people are discussing something on a message board it doesn't mean they think they have any control over it. That kind of thing makes me roll my eyes.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 12:23 pmThis board is small snapshot to what fans are thinking and saying behind closed doors (hyperbolically of course on here).

Re: Thoughts on the season/Team?
Accountability in the NIL era is interesting. If you don’t perform (in classroom or on field) you might lose out on some money. Not saying this will happen at App, and it probably wont, but I heard Kirby mentioning this yesterday at SEC media days… His players are having off the field issues and he’s tired of it. So, if the kids want their NIL money, they’ve got to quit getting in trouble. He mentioned holding some of those dollars back (or some form of not getting paid) until they perform or quit getting in trouble (accountability). It’s all fluid and each situation is different.

But, the athletic department isn't supposed to have any control/influence over the money so how can Kirby do that?311neers wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 1:44 pmAccountability in the NIL era is interesting. I guess he can say going forward the only way a player can get a NIL deal is if that's in the contract, but he can't technically do anything with existing contracts/amounts, right? That has to legally be between the collective/company and the player only, right?

Re: Thoughts on the season/Team?
I think it’s the collective that is fining the players if they get in trouble. Wild times. It used to be a suspension or missing games, or even kicked off the team. Now it’s a fine like the NFL.704App wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 1:46 pmBut, the athletic department isn't supposed to have any control/influence over the money so how can Kirby do that?311neers wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 1:44 pmAccountability in the NIL era is interesting. Re: Thoughts on the season/Team?
Absolutely. The major programs can’t suspend a kid or kick them off the team with the portal, they’ll just leave. Next best thing to do is have the company or collective fine the kids to hold them accountable. App doesn’t have that problem, thank goodness. Hope we never get to that level of accountability.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 2:07 pmFixed.311neers wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 1:59 pmNow it’s a fine like the NFL.

Re: Thoughts on the season/Team?
I’m not sure that coaches are going to run their programs out of fear of losing someone. If a Kirby Smart needs to discipline a kid then he’s going to do it. If that kid bolts because he doesn’t want to pay the consequences then they’ll let them walk. I’m sure that some players will think that leaving is an option if they get in trouble, and I’m sure that a booster willing to write a check will think that it’s a good thing. I just don’t see a successful coach that will take on a problem and risk having the same thing happen again.311neers wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 2:13 pmAbsolutely.
