FYI, after skimming their board, there are some on there that want Chodewell as their coach.
I guarantee that's a mistake. Dabo may soon get his head out of his ass and catchup from being left behind in his philosophy
Rumor going around there is that if he has a down year that boosters told him he would be forced to go into the portal for players to upgrade or he would lose some funding and would be on hot seat in 2025 but I don't see how he is gone before 2027. His buyout is 60M in 2024 and 2025 and 57M in 2026. He has time and I am sure he will make some changes if they fall too far behind. Would a loss to us be the kick in pants he would need to change his portal philosophy?
I wonder how many coaching changes Appalachian has caused over the years, both because we beat the team, took them to overtime, as well as, losing to them.
I believe now that the Big Ten Network would not have been as successful as it has been if we had not beaten Michigan, because that made all the cable companies customers at the time demand they carry The Big Ten Network. It also made Texas and all the major conferences demand their own networks as well.

It has been a few for sure. I can think of 3, at least.
I remember Charles Davis making the comment that the Michigan game really catapulted the Big Ten Network to a great start even though Michigan lost because of the viewers they got. People still buzz about that game 17 years later.

He probably only needed one portal player this year. If he’d pulled a decent QB from the portal, they’d be a clear favorite to win the ACC. Now it looks like Miami with a handful of teams that could do it, still including Clemson.

I really don’t like the Portal or NIL as I think both make it more difficult for schools like ours to really compete with the big schools but it’s the way it is now. For a team like Clemson to ignore the system is baffling. Dabo could reload key positions with little problem.

Yes, Dabo has his head in his ass concerning that.

When we’ve beaten long time successful coaches at power programs part of that equation has been their inability to adapt to shifts in the CFB landscape. Might as well do it again.

The last time Clemson was relevant was 1981 with Danny Ford, which took a lot of NCAA violations to achieve that level of success. It was not until Dabo that Clemson became relevant again.
I really do not see the transfer portal to be any teams saving grace. Look how many coaches have tried to fill all their spots with the transfer portal and not been successful.
I also think that the non-autonomous programs are not being gutted by the autonomous programs are gutting one another. For example, Duke's quarterback going to Notre Dame. Much like JMU quarterback going to Texas State and USM quarterback going to Appalachian.
A good team cannot be bought.
The players understand the game better than most. The smart ones understand the risk/reward ans enter the portal at their own accord. See Jalen McCloud

At this point in time, I ask, "Lazy reporting" or "intentional back handed slap in the face"?
I also love (really hate) to see articles say, "the last time the teams played in 2015 Clemson won 45-10 or whatever" or Clemson has won all 5 games against App. When does any decent reporter think you can look at a game a decade ago and infer how this game will turn out? That is especially true when one opponent has moved up significantly through the food chain. A more meaningful comparison is our recent performance over the last 5 years App has won against UNC and A&M and come close on several other occasions. Therefore they pose a dangerous threat even though the spread is two TDs. If they are doing their job they would probably say we are similar to some of the teams in the ACC as far as level of competition. What Clemson did under Danny Ford is irrelevant in 2024.

I would be willing to bet just lazy reporting. There are many people who still refer to FCS as I-AA because it was that for so many years. They know about the difference but simply still say it. I think many people think of the G5 level as FCS in their heads because 90% of the schools who are G5 now were I-AA or FCS at one time.

I think that for the most part writers in general put very little effort into analyzing any G5 team. Why put forth any for teams with no legitimate shot at the championship? That is not my opinion but my views of national sports writers. As was mentioned by a few folks we are still 1AA/FCS in the eyes of many and while it will always be great to mention the Michigan win from 17 years ago gets tired. We have freshmen players who were 1 when that game occurred. We need more to hang our hats on besides that win and the fact that we “scare” the big boys.

Coach Saban said it best on College Gameday..... "You guys keep talking about a 20 million dollar roster. If you don't pay the right guys, you'll be shit out of luck." - Nick Saban
Yeah, but Dabo is basically the opposite. He seems to be refusing to use the portal on principle, which is dumb. You should use all the tools at your disposal. And sometimes you have to admit you got a guy that isn't developing the way you thought he would, so you need to get someone better right now. I mean, imagine if an NFL or MLB general manager refused to use free agency because "we believe we've got all the best guys in our program already." That guy would be out of a job in a second.
Saban's point is good, and hilarious, but it's not like he didn't use the portal plenty.

I admire Dabo standing on principle. A man with a backbone is a rare breed nowadays. He is at the top tier and has a platform to stand on....he has made his money....he has won a Natty and been highly successful. Now with that said is it advisable? Probably not. In our shoes or at our level it definitely would not be because we have to do whatever it takes to survive. Saban I believe was tired of the new directions too.
KICK ASS!!!

Time for Dabo to go to NFL. A man with principle who disagrees with the fiasco of portal and NIL.
