Re: The Sport Network is
I believe we all know that is highly unlikely that SS is going to be fired this year, in spite of everything. I'd speculate that he's safe next year unless he totally loses the team. If discipline problems (especially with his recruits), poor coaching decisions, and poor player effort continue next season, all bets are off.
We're behind you Coach. Do you what you have to do, just give us a little something to believe in.

Re: The Sport Network is
The poor way Moore's tenure ended is all the more reason not to fire a coach who was a former all-conference QB and assistant coach after just one year. I can't imagine who would want the job after that. It is also my understanding that our pay for coaches is not that great for the SoCon and will only be a bigger problem in the Sun Belt. Recruits in 2014 will be important, with that said, I hope we don't have a lot of fair weather fans.We need to keep showing up at the Rock and cheering for our school. It won't be the same atmosphere for a recruit visiting a half empty stadium.

Re: The Sport Network is
There'd be MMB'ers calling for Moore's firing just like they did prior to 2005. Heck, there were some even calling for him to step down since then, citing all our NFL players and yet he didn't live up to their expectations. As for me, I say give Sat at least the rest of his contract regardless.Black Saturday wrote:It is just sheer ignorance to blame or fame any coach for their first 2 years of results. Programs aren't built or torn down that quickly, although it is easier for one to fall than to rise. Any prior regime has some vestments in a program for AT LEAST 2 years afterwards because of the personnel that has been brought in, the coaches that were in place or not retained (due to budgeting in APPs case), and the direction the program was heading prior to a change. A new coach needs at least a couple of years to bring in HIS players and have HIS coaches in place to operate HIS system.
We all know that SS has been the head man for only 7 games, although results are not what any of us thought, he has a huge uphill battle getting the program turned around from the direction it has been sliding for several seasons to being competitive weekly in uncharted territory on the 85 scholarship level.
2014 signings will be crucial and tell much about where we are headed.
My personal opinion is that next season will be a tough one again, with marked improvement in 2015 and beyond.
Fans tend to think their programs should all have fairytale endings. Give SS his due chance to get it right.
My gosh, what would we be saying if our Hall of Fame prior coach stood at 1-6 this week???

You mean like the offer to coach one more year Coach Moore took but didn't want to tell anyone about so he could claim he was "blindsided" by the end of his tenure?Maddog1956 wrote:KInd of like throwing your "Famed Coach" under the bus with no send off!.skjellyfetti wrote:Do you have a link?
Firing a coach after a single season would be disastrous.
No decent coach is going to want to come to a program that just fired a coach after a single season.
The idea of firing Scott is ludicrous. The only chance App has a new coach next season is if he gets totally fed up and walks away. But Scott ia a fighter and I can't see that happening.

I don't think we should get rid of any more coaches till we have someone who can hire one and here is what it would take if we had an AD who could hire one.Maddog1956 wrote:KInd of like throwing your "Famed Coach" under the bus with no send off!skjellyfetti wrote:Do you have a link?

I'll give SS another year (which will be a tough one to prove something in), but ideally you have another coach in place before you fire the first one. Now I don't know if CC can think that far ahead or not, but that's how it should be done.
Here is the total compensation for coaches in the Sun Belt Conference in 2012
1.Gus Malzhan, Arkansas State $859,610
2.Mark Hudspeth, Louisiana-Lafayette $803,00
3.Rick Stockstill, Middle Tennessee $602,129
4.Dan McCarney, North Texas $545,300
5.Mario Cristobal, Florida International $522,183
6.Willie Taggart, Western Kentucky $479,800
7.Larry Blakeney, Troy $455,000
8.Carl Pelini, FAU $450,000
9.Joey Jones, South Alabama $371,125
10.Todd Berry, Louisiana-Monroe $250,000
I also think it is way too soon at any rate.

Who even reads the Sports Network? This is nothing more than an attempt to drive page views from a relatively large fan base.

That's stupid and defies common sense. I'm not sure SS is head coach material and I think he may have lost this team but I would never advocate cutting him loose. He gets at least one more season.

Yep Sparky moved up to USCarolina then eventually down to VMI. Brown moved up to Tulane then to Carolina (who ran him off) then to Texas and a National Championship. Brown did us little to no favors except leaving Sparky as our head coach.Maddog1956 wrote:Credit or no credit, but the coach moves up to bigger $. i.e Mack BrownJCline0429 wrote:

Agreed. Brown's recruiting was the nucleus for those mid 80's teams that started the SoCon run.Black Saturday wrote:Brown got John Settle and a few others to play in an APP uniform.JCline0429 wrote:Yep Sparky moved up to USCarolina then eventually down to VMI. I agree with you but I guarantee you he has more than one more year unless something besides losses occurs. Remember most of us understood that the first couple years at the next level would bring struggles. This year is bonus just to get you used to it.fjblair wrote:That's stupid and defies common sense. It is still all about money. I really hope that Scott makes it but regardless he will and should be here a couple or more years even if we are not winning. we don't have the bucks to make all the changes that would be needed.

Re: The Sport Network is
Correct...and if anybody thinks we can get a good HC and staff with a proven track record for what we are paying SS and his staff, I believe you are sadly mistaken. It's all about the greenbacks available in our athletics department--especially at this point. And if we don't start bringing in some corporate dollars and/or draw more folks into the Yosef Club, you can expect that to continue.Appsolutely wrote:bcoach wrote:It is still all about money. Unfortunately, just like with every other business, money talks and BS walks when it comes to college athletics.

I don't think it's time to part ways with Satterfield. But, it's not ridiculous to wonder if he's the right guy.
A lot of people push the "wait until he gets his guys" angle, but good coaches rarely fall this far. Just look at our opponent this week. Monken took "Hatch Attack" players and got to the semifinals running the triple option in his first year.
Satterfield has guys who came here to play in his offense.

Speaking of Brown....he will need a job next year.

Not so sure that is correct, Sparky thrived on Mack's recruits as I remember it when I was in school. Where were you in 82 to 86? By your logic do we give credit to Elliott or Satterfield for Moore's championships?
